I've been checking out different kinds of protein powders lately and I've been wondering what tastes best for the right cost.

I've been sticking with Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard Whey for the longest time now and I realized how tiring it is drinking it and how expensive it can be, especially since it usually takes like 2 scoops for it to taste good.

I got a new tub of Muscle Pharm's Combat Powder the other day and I'm really liking it so far. I got the tub for 30 bucks and with a single scoop, it tastes a hell of a lot better than ON so far.

I've also heard good things about Promasil too.

I usually either mix my powder with almond/soy milk and drink it straight or add Cheerios or Chia seeds in a Blender Bottle. I'd rather not have to use a blender and mix in other things.

Any thoughts on ON vs Muscle Pharm vs Promasil? Which tastes best and which costs least?

Muscle Pharm to me is the best bang for your buck. It's relatively cheaper than ON and tastes better IMO. I particularly like the cookies and cream flavor. Tastes awesome when I blend it with strawberries, a banana, lowfat milk and a tsp of peanut butter.

Here's your proof to keep her safe from the crazy Crossfit cult.

This crossfit demonisation as a crazy cult is worthless and inaccurate. Did you even read the article you posted?:

"This amounts to an injury rate of 3.1 per 1,000 hours, which is similar to sports such as Olympic weightlifting, power lifting and gymnastics, but less than contact sports like rugby."

Hardly as dangerous as you suggest. Sure it may not prescribe to some of your lifting philosophies and sure some people get injured, but many people enjoy it, excel at it, and it has improved many people's lives in terms of strength and fitness.

Wait, MTP is a plumer?

This adds a whole new level of associations every time I read anything he posts from this now on. Oh the glorious plot twists in porn movies...

Out of curiousty when you guys are strapped for time and have to cut out a day from your routine how do you alter your other days?

I just continue the next day where i left off. For example if I need to squat on a Friday but i don't go that Friday then I do squat day on Saturday.

The more correct answer though is to make working out a priority above everything else (except for emergencies, work and family obligations)and not miss your work out days

Sleeping is somewhat challenging.

My hands go numb when laying on my back and sleeping on my sides kills my shoulders :(

Wanted to sleep in today but I can't even do that.

My fiancee slaps the shit out of me when I sleep on my back because I snore so loudly and if I sleep on my side she pushes me over to my stomach so I don't fart on her in my sleep.

So, we have different causes, but I too am a habitual stomach sleeper.

Fuck I should've glanced over it thoroughly then pull it from another fit thread without scrutinizing the numbers.

I've never said Crossit doesn't have the ability to improve overall fitness. It has proven to do so well, well enough to be a popular workout regiment.

But explain to me why there are newbies being Taught to do barbell lifts but in sloppy form and with such haste plus performing circuit interval exercise plus kettleball exercises all in a single class? How is that setting a foundation for a healthier lifestyle? How is there no quality standard across all Crossfit gyms? Not to forget the large groups of people Crossfitting alongside one another and encouraging the same bad behavior.

It's exercise, but I still stand by my statement of tribalism at it's worst.

You folks who take a multivitamin, what is a reliable brand or is there any resource I can use to determine a brand that isn't flat out lying about its content? I hate looking for supplements just because there is so much bullshit.

I... Am pretty sure you can reliably take Centrum or any store-brand equivalent and be a-okay. I take the Walgreen's-brand variety because it was the cheapest last time I needed some.

I'm taking gnc's mega men. http://www.gnc.com/GNC-Mega-Men/product.jsp?productId=4033432
I like it, seems reliable. Once it finishes though I'm going back to the generic ones. Gotta save those big bucks.

Here's today's post workout meal..

If there's one good thing about being single again, it's that now I have time to train and prepare some meals too. The first six months of this year were crazy busy and I didn't have enough time to train consistently (also had a three month break from training due to various reasons) and my diet suffered too. I think I went from 220lb to 235lb in six months (all fat!) and lost a lot of strength too. Hopefully I will be back in shape by the end of this year.

nice a full year!

and I use gold as my gym as well. Just trying to see if other people whet there as well. In my area it is either golds, century fitness or planet fitness... And I told myself I would never walk into a planet fitness.

It's been a bad week lol. Between no sleeping and the effects of that, only got four workouts in. Came home last night after work fully intending to workout, sat on my couch to take off my shoes...and woke up four hours later lol.

But slept last night. Worked out today. My 55 minute strength circuit. Back in the game and 46 days to go before my trip. Must get skinny.

My derrière hurts from squats and donkey kicks... Shower now.

Like I said, wasting away in the low 180's guys. Strength is good and all but it's been a while since my abs were so defined. My wife snapped this today. She looks at it and insists that I was flexing. haha Umm no

Alright, I am basically going with something like starting strength, but I just want to see your opinions on anything I should change/do differently

Age: 30
Height: 6'3
Weight: 185-190
Goal: Looks, Health, Strength
Current Training Schedule: M, W, F
Workout 1: Squat, Press, Deadlift
Workout 2: Squat, bench press, back extensions, pull ups

Current Training Equipment Available: basically everything
Comments: I just started so is there any exercise that I absolutely need to be doing or one that I should replace with something else? Also, my calorie intake is a lot closer to 3k than 6k, and I doubt that I will consume anywhere close to that much (I like my food bill somewhat sane). While I know I won't see big gains thanks to that, will I still see something? Or do I actually need to suck it up and eat like a pig?

I find heavy lifts easier than high volume stuff. Today's 10x3 @ 285 was easier by far than Mondays 4x9 @ 235.
Well yeah. Its only 50lbs more but you are only doing threes. The difference should be more drastic between the two. If you can do 4 sets of 9 at 235 I imagine the 10x3 at 285 is fairly easy. We also don't know what lift you're doing.

Hey guys,
I had to learn again that employees in the bigger sports fashion stores have no idea about proper work-out shoes.
My current indoor shoes are wearing itself out in the inner part and over the course of months my feet got slender and I have way to much freedom in them.
So, Due to my flatfeet I wanted to buy these shoes with less cushioning like the Nike free 3. I knew from another runner that these can be pretty great to train the feet muscles on short distances and I guess they should do well for lifting as well.
However, I don't know if I have to stop using the orthopedic inlays and if they are really okay with lifting?

Anyone got experiences or ideas with shoes?

I imagine a lot of westerners or people without exposure to "squatting culture" just do not have the flexibility to do a proper deep squat a first. Going straight to bar training is not a good idea for those people.

It can take a good bit of work to train those muscles and get flexible enough, but it's certainly not impossible. It just takes time and effort.

I've been having this issue with my wife. Since I set up the equipment in the basement she's taken an interest, but I've had her on body squats with a broom stick + stretches for weeks because she simply doesn't have the mobility for even an unweighted bar squat. All other lifts she's shown decent adaptability to.

My colleagues have been commenting my looks lately a bit more (in a very nice way that is) and one of them is now really excited to start to work out so I will go to gym with her next Thursday! :D I feel like a winner! Also one of my co-workers said to me today that my transformation is like one of those contestants' in reality tv-shows where people are losing weight. I thought it was a hilarious comment and I did took it in a positive way, even if I am not a fan of that kind of telly shows.

This week has been all messed up at work and two people are sick. I am so tired after a working day that also I have had hard time sticking with my programm. Four times a week is good though! You already look smashing so stick with it and stop worrying!

Today I was planning to play some Battlefield, put on the Xbox... just to wake up 5,5 hours later. :p So yeah, things don't always go as planned.

My hands go numb when laying on my back and sleeping on my sides kills my shoulders :(

Wanted to sleep in today but I can't even do that.
Awwwwwwwww, poor cutie. Come here and I will give you a massage.

I think the world must be faulty in some very basic level - I love smoked fishies and yet I don't have them.

Oh and after drooling that photo I also realized there was some text under it. :p I wish you all the motivation you need to stick on the right track!

Squatting. 4th day of smolov.

Cooter looking awesome man.

I'm down to 206-207 lbs now :( didn't eat for 16 hours besides a quest bar and some pop. I was sweating all day so I was completely dehydrated...

Went to the new gym for a few squats and damn I did 405 for one rep and felt lightheaded. I said "fuck this, low weights until I rehydrate." So I did 315 for 5x8 which gave my quads a pump.

MrToughPants, I think a thread has been made in your honor.

Holy shit! I'm going in there with my food porns.

Thanks for the kind words guys and gal. Diet has been extra dialed in due to this stupid drug test in a couple weeks. We're having smores tonight and I want some so so much! Sheeit!

Squatting. 4th day of smolov.

I don't know much about the routine but if that is what it tells you to do then carry on. It makes sense to me why the 235x9x4 would be more difficult than the 285x3x10 though.

My nephew is off the top of the growth standards for height and weight. At four months, he is easily fitting into 18-month onesies; he is about 21 lbs and 26 inches. I cannot wait to teach him the way of the barbell when he is older... If he stays roughly in the same percentile (a big if of course) he will be a beast with some weight training under his belt.

My brother is envisioning a starter pitcher out of him. For real we have no actual expectations out of him as far as deciding his future, but it is fun to bullshit about it all based on his size.

Just look at those quads. Those are squatting quads if I've ever seen them.

Does anyone have any good informationals/sites for someone looking to make a cut?

My body is confusing me badly. My waist is smaller and my thighs and legs are larger, but I still have my beer gut and love handles and my shirts are fitting awkwardly on my body.

I'm starting to doubt the SS method a bit and I cleared 3 plates on squat and DL Friday. My bench is still really lagging.

Why would you need to eat 6000 calories? Just eat a bit over maintenance and you're good to go.

what's the best action to combat body size inconsistency?

my left arm has always been weaker than my right. and now right arm is noticeably bigger than my left, despite always keeping the rep count and weight the same between both and placing most importance in form.

My left arm is .5" larger and feels a tad bit stronger despite working both equally for 20+ years. I'm not sure how you combat it. At this point I've accepted it as a law of nature. I guess hypothetically you can do more work for one side but it has never mattered enough to actually test this theory. I guarantee the only one who notices it is you.

I guess that was my impression that you needed to eat a whole lot more food if you wanted to see some good bulk. I read the OP a bit more closely and that mentions that you'll see good gains from simply eating 300-1000 more calories of the food you are already eating. I definitely think I will do that. The whole drastic bulk/cut really doesnt appeal to me.

You will see bulk but 90% of it will be just fat. Most of us won't want to see that kind of bulk :)

Just try to eat 200-500kcal extra an top of your maintenance for starts.
