Aye, who could turn down that impending severance package after one year's work?
:lol it will be interesting to see what length of deal he signs at Chelsea. Also I wonder whether (or how big of a) say he has in signings.

You obviously haven't been following his career as we (F.C. Porto) fans did. He's supposed to be the biggest FC Porto fan ever, this was his dream job, he would never switch seats, bla bla bla.
I could be the worlds biggest fan of my local club Glentoran F.C. but if I had the option to manage either them or Chelsea, I know which I'd choose.

All I'm saying is the guy probably just wants to move up the ladder, and you can hardly blame him. Just don't see the point in comments like, he's doing it for the money, when nobody can say he is or isn't.

But would you resign by fax without notice just a couple of weeks before the start of the new season when all the major bosses already have teams? If this happened a few weeks earlier for example we would have grabbed Domingos Paciencia for sure, now he's in Sporting. Way to fuck up your favorite club.

I'm sure he would have had similar offers next season...

You can blame him for promising to stay at Porto. He shouldn't have promised that in the first place, and no one would blame him if he didn't act like he had the best job in the world...

I think the conclusion is whilst it's entirely natural and obv for AVB wanting to go to Chelsea...alot of what he said he has gone back on. Porto fans surely have a right to feel let down by their apparent hero.

He's young and ambitious not to mention he still knows Chelsea very well considering how little the squad has changed since he left.

But being so young gives him plenty of time to go back to Porto and complete what he started.

I still wish Ancelotti hadn't left but if AVB and Hiddink are teaming up together then im excited for the future. Hopefully Roman will stop thinking with the trophy cabinet and more with stability and building something that could eventually be a huge force on a consistent basis.

Now to wait for the confirmation and the signings to follow.

But it's a job mate. He's done what he has at Porto and now everybody knows what he's capable of. So somebody bigger has come along and said, "Want to do that for us?" and he's (seemingly) accepted. Porto is bigger than Villas-Boas, he might love the club, but he's got to put his career first.

I'm sure he would have got similar offers next season, but why go then? why not wait two seasons when he'll get more offers, or even three when he'll get even more?

None of us know why he's decided to move or what his feelings are on it. So who are we to say?

Edit: This is the problem with football. If somebody does well in club be he player, coach etc and he claims love for the club then if they decide to move on, everybody gets hurt and angry and start saying it's about money, this, that and so on. And the fans feel like they've been done. But you'll rarely hear of fans giving a player or coach who loves the club but is doing a shit job a second chance. Instead they get hissed and boo'd.

BTW, newspapers are reporting that AVB asked for Moutinho, Falcao and Hulk. The three best players of Porto... I doubt that Hulk leaves Porto (100M€ is the clause, and I don't think they'll lower that this year).

Moutinho is also a great player. He was the substitute of Raul Meireles at Porto (IMO, maybe even a better player). I'd say that would mean that AVB was going for a 4-3-3 (similar to his Porto tactics).

Falcao is a given, but I sure as fuck hope he won't take Moutinho as well. Now that will really make me mad!!

Man, if takes his players too...gutted for Porto :-/ will be a good example of one of the more harsh and unfortunate realities of modern football.

I wonder if and when Hiddink will be put in place. It's reported he turned down the managers post and wanted Van Basten as coach underneath him.

Sky saying Guus' agent said he want be taking the DoF position at Chelsea. He's happy at Turkey but may be interested in Inter.

Has Drogba, Anelka and the rest of the older players been sold yet?

I don't see them coming back next season, add terry and fat Franck to the list too

SSN saying we are going to make a 2nd bid for Modric. But that it's unlikely it will happen because Modric is modelling their new kits.

But we know that means nout.

I dont blame AVB for taking the Chelsea job. He'll be at a bigger club, in a bigger league, and have the opportunity to challenge for bigger honors.

Some editor at the Guardian is enjoying poking at wounded Arsenal fans with these headlines

Barcelona insist offer for Arsenal's Cesc Fábregas will be under £35m

Sandro Rosell has said Barcelona are unwilling to pay Arsenal's £35m valuation of their captain Cesc Fábregas, but says the midfielder is doing "all he can" to join Pep Guardiola's side...

WTF is wrong with Barca? Are they really this classless? I thought Real Madrid was the worst but after that one season of wooing Ronaldo, they cut straight to the chase the next June, faxed in that offer, and everybody was happy. This is pursuing of Fabregas through the media for the second summer in a row is unbecoming of an institution that is supposed to be "more than a club".

I think a few of those players are out on contract?

I really hate these shenanigans in modern football, but unfortunately, money talks. Good luck to AVB at Chelsea. Hopefully he'll be allowed to last for more than 2-3 seasons, regardless...

Hmm...at this point most of the Arsenal fans I know are ready to get rid of him because they're tired of the hassle.

Personally I think they should sell him and reinvest in multiple positions. I just dont see a Fabregas led Arsenal ever winning the title considering the regression since the failed challenge of 07/08. Arsenal should move toward another, more practical style.

Shame what you did to us Villas-Boas, bye and never come back, you're not welcome here. Let's get Rui Faria (Mourinho's man). We have lots of titles to win this year...

Seems like Rui Faria will be Portos new manager. He worked with both Mourinho and Villas Boas. Hopefully Portos trend of finding the best managers continues this season >.<

That's what the press has been saying. Dunno if those rumors are true but in my opinion it would be a great option... Let's solve this as soon as possible because we have a lot of work to do. Oh and I hope we get Chelsea in the champions league...

Cannot wait to see Villas Boas doing what he does best in the PL - this new season is shaping up to be extremely exciting. I should really renew my One Hotspur membership. :p

How do you figure sports fan?

You don't know the guy, so you can't say he is or isn't in it for the money. Maybe he feels like he's proved himself at Porto and he wants to move on to bigger things. He's clearly ambitious and it's the next logical step. I mean, even fans of other clubs are commenting how good this could be for the league (but mainly us :lol).
If I was manager of the team I've supported my whole life with the oppurtunity to make them into european giants why would I even dream of moving to that plastic shit hole.

He's a classless cunt in it for the money, well suited to a "club" like Chelsea.

:lol :lol :lol no holds barred!

Five times as much money though...we just think of it in FM terms. For him it's a truly life changing amount of money. Not that he's in it just for the money...but it's bound to tempt you...

I'm sorry, but coaching Chelsea is never and should never be 'the next logical step.' It's a poison chalice in every which way.

Short of winning the CL at Porto (and that is a HUGE task, one he probably would never manage without an easy Mourinho-esque run to the final, only to play against Monaco) he has done all he can, admittedly in a short amount of time - I'd argue it's massively unlikely he could ever better the season he has just had at Porto.

So it makes sense that he'd want to leave. Chelsea have a great squad, lots of money for him to work with, and more importantly he already knows his way around the players and the club. Match made in heaven!

So true! Oh well. It will be interesting to see Sanchez in the squad at least.

Precisely - it's only logical for him to take this opportunity to further his career. He has achieved all he can with Porto, and it's unlikely that he'll be able to fit the shoes of success he has had with them again. Taking on Chelsea will be a new and difficult challenge for him but yet an exciting one. It is a pretty straight forward decision for him to make, one that would be foolish of him to turn down.

This classless cunt you speak of is one of the top football managers who has great achievements at the young age of 33, and he has a respectable personality to boot. Forget Abramovich - Chelsea has great players that can do well under great direction.

Daily Mirror is one of the worst Newspaper I ever read. I hope thier report of us Getting Wes Brown is false. If true, then I have to question the brain of Moyes. I mean, he isn't exactly consistently good defenders and we have way too many CB.

Maybe he wants to pit his wits against Fergie, Dalglish, Wenger and er, Pardew...
