You know it really is amazing how United,Liverpool,Chelsea and Arsenal fans alike, even fans of other teams on GAF who would normally be at each others throats, have all joined as one in their mutual dislake for Kermit. It warms the heart :p
The funniest thing is the post which seems to have gathered the troops is not even close to one of his worst!!

Just read the article in The Blizzard about Man United vs Real Madrid in 2000 and how it changed SAF and United's "we'll score one more than you" style which was ditched for ever. Really interesting read. How I miss those days and that team. As they used to say "Man United don't lose, they just run out of time". It was so terribly naive yet so fun to watch. Real Madrid and Redondo exposed us that night though. I hope we face Real Madrid again this season. Theres something special about them and we haven't faced them in years, would be great to see them and Ronaldo back at Old Trafford.

Just put a cheeky tenner on those odds, with another tenner on Liverpool being the first team to beat Man Utd at 9/1 :lol
When do they play? if at anfield you'll probably be a happy man. seems like forever since we beat you there.

We play Liverpool quite early this season. Not bad odds those if the match is at Anfield.

only 4 years ago. and before that Utd were unbeaten in 6 against them, winning 5!!

What I'd do for a record like that against the unwashed at Sid James'!

I think it was more of culmination of reading SO much of his nonsense that tipped me over the edge.

The move away from 4-4-2 to a 4-5-1 has definitely been the key to our European success. Didn't work early on with Veron trying to break into the team but ironically during the Ronaldo years he would have been perfect for the team.

SAF recognised modern European football conceding fewer goals than scoring more and the 4-5-1 which would collapse into a 4-6-0 when defending was a brilliant system that only Barca figured out.

8 games in and it's at Anfield. Could be a goer, but you don't always have the best starts to the season so who knows!

Yeah, sure, tell that to van Gaal :p

Buy Uefa through some kind of complex sympathy based Unicef guilt trip? =P

It's definitely interesting how tactics have evolved. From the role of DM's becoming more prominent to packing today's midfields. The next evolution may be how to counter the floating centre forward.

Didn't Utd lose their first game of the season against Burnley in 09? Plus I don't recall them starting this season too well either.

If the Liverpool game is 8 games in and odds are 9/1 then those seem quite poor odds, the odd of Utd losing should have a mild exponential growth rate with the number of games Utd play

Clearly you're all jealous of City's web page. Can Liverpool and Spurs compete with the kind of money it takes to have the best website in the league? Don't make me lol.

Heya, guys. I'm from NBA-Age and with probably a decade long lockout ahead, I'm probably gonna start getting more into soccer. :)

I know the Champions League finished a few weeks ago. Any other tournaments or leagues going on right now or in the future that you guys are looking forward to?

Calling it football would be a good start :)
All european leagues start next month (also the Champions League). Right now Copa América is the best option (is starting today in less than an hour).

Interesting. Still hoping it's not the blue one...though I'm sure it will be. Did you get a home one?

Also what happened to Barca's press conference today!? I was hopeful of some much needed transfer news..

Excellent!

Thanks a lot for the info, guys. :)

Looks like I'm gonna be rooting for Uruguay in this one. They were my favorite team in the World Cup.

Argentina or Brazil will probably take it though. :|

In the summers its mostly international football, though i suppose having a team to support in America ( i presume you're American) would be helpful to get you more interested. As said, the Copa America is just beginning, and there is also the Women's World cup and the U17 world cup ,with the u20 world cup beginning shortly.

If im not mistaken, i believe MLS (Major League Soccer), the American league, runs through summer so that would probably be a good place to start supporting a local team, though MLS is not at the same standards as the European leagues so you'll probably want to get into a team in Europe as well.

There's Copa America which is gonna feature some great games, and despite what some Eurosnobs say, you can always watch MLS.

For those of us who don't go into NBA-Age and don't live in America... whats the deal with the potential lockout?

Curious about this too. Just read an article about it on the Telegraph site and apparently there's a similar situation in the NFL too?

ghana were robbed.

How could I forget. lol

But hey, when it comes down to it, Suarez played within the rules. He committed the action, got penalized with his red, and was suspended for the next game.

It's not like the guy tried to take out another player or fake a dive like Ghana was doing that entire game.

Although, I might be a little biased
(read: salty)
because Ghana knocked out USA for the second WC in a row. :-/

Well he is from England for god sakes.

Speaking of the United game I'm definitely going to try and get a ticket to that one again, the demolition at Anfield was one of the best games I've been to, only rivalled by my first merseyside derby at Goodison where Gerrard scored a 25 yard screamer.

Oh and after a month without competitive football tonight I'm going to be all aboard the Copa America train.

I'm not saying what Suarez did against Ghana was "right", but I think if a player was in the same situation as him, many would have probably done the same.

Wish I wasn't so tired, want to stay up for the Copa America later!

Basically, owners have been throwing out money like there's no tomorrow and giving out bad contracts like candy for the past 10 years. The result is the owners spending all this money, but their teams still sucking ass and, not surprisingly, not attracting anymore fans than when they weren't spending money at all.

So the owners are trying to blame all this on the current revenue system that's place. They want a complete overhaul of the current system, establishing an entirely new system that they consider more beneficial for them, but the players see it as unfair on their side.

Owners want:
- A hard cap in place
- Reduced salaries
- Unguaranteed contracts

Players want to keep the old system in place but with a few tweaks that benefit the owners.

The two sides have been trying to negotiate a new Collective Bargaining Agreement for the past two years and have pretty much made no progress. The result: a lockout and nothing NBA related for the foreseeable future. :(

Talking about Man U back in 2000, you've reminded of their game against my Vasco da Gama in the clubs world cup, in Rio de Janeiro.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adc7trqYxS4

Edmundo's goal was amazing! I miss that super team Vasco had by that time. Players from Brazil's national team on the bench, Jesus!

Too bad after that we had an awful and corrupt president that put the team (who won the Libertadores and the brazilian league twice by that time between 97 and 00) on the trash can. One decade suffering on the hands of that idiot, and only now, with the new president we are recovering and having a good team. This year we won the Brazil's cup after a looong time without titles.

Vasco even went to the second division in 2009, but only stayed there for one year. For those who don't follow the brazilian football, I need to explain that the brazilian league is not like the european ones, where only a few teams really run for the title. Here, at least 16 of the 20 teams are big ones, so the team with most titles is São Paulo, with only 6 trophyes, while my Vasco has 4. It's also very common to see big teams going to the second division every year.

"Who fucking cares?", you may ask. Well, I do. :(

I think either Argentina or Brazil will win...but I am really hoping for Uruguay. They gave me and everyone I know the biggest entertainment/excitement for a tournament in a long time. All their games were soo memorable, up to the last play against Germany and Forlan last attempt from outside that hit the post.

WOW

Hehe, funnily enough, that very same article mentioned this match and Gary Neville's torrid time against Edmundo. I remember watching this game and thinking, wow, European football isn't that good...why are we getting demolished. I was only 10 and Brazil were basically footballing God's to me so I used to think Brazil actually had the best league with all the best players and over here we knew nothing of them! That's how I justified us getting battered that day to my friends at school the next day =)

That's very interesting about the Brazilian league and the number of big sides. Come to think of it, it makes sense, I know of so many Brazilian clubs just from passing references, I don't follow the league or anything at all. At least it must be exciting. It's funny, if Vasco are just 3 away from being the most successful...that would seem so close over here in Europe...yet in Brazil is must be a miracle to win 3 titles in a row!

As far as Copa America goes, I'm gonna be backing Chile!
