1st time Mexico won all games against the most impossible teams to reach the final and win!!
2005 and now 2011 except that 2005 u-17 lost the last group match vs turkey

Very impressive to beat France, Netherlands, Germany, and Uruguay. But i think being at home was the X-Factor. I think what the 2005 team accomplished was harder because it was won in another turf, and they crushed a much better brazil and netherlands team. I can't believe watchin the u-17 is more fun and exciting that the shitty older team. The future does look bright. Raul Gutierrez looks like a great coach, and unlike Chucho Ramirez, this guy looks humble, and he's been a soccer player before.

I think those guys are good players - but Tevez brings more than goals and none of those players can contribute the work rate that Tevez does, let alone the goals and assists.

Yeah Tevez is a big loss, and I'm not sure how we'll cover that hole just yet.

In saying that, th rest of our squad is very strong, and Liverpool is the only challenger to the top 4 this season, in my eyes. The Liverpool squad is patchy, and lacks depth, but they did us over royally late in the season, so who knows. Tottenham is a bit of a shambles and I don't think they'll offer much at the pointy end of the season.

Why are you guys talking about Tevez leaving as a fact? Did I miss something?
Anyway, maybe that way Dzeko can take the central role he had at Wolfburg.

He announced he wanted to leave a few weeks back. City are going hard after Aguero in order to replace him, apparently.

LOL, no one is going to but him for 50m pounds and take on 200k of wages per week.
He just has 3 more years on his contract before he can leave. Or the club will sell him with a year or 2 left on his contract, but not now.

Who are going to pay the money for Tevez and match those stupid wages that City pay him? Not many...

Ah well, another happy player.

Not being funny or anything but City are hardly going to let £50M on legs walk right out the front door. Especially when he's there's for another 3 years.

He'll have to put up and shut up if no one wants to buy him.

BREAKING NEWS:

Arsene Wenger confirms the signing of Gervinho and says that both Fabregas and Nasri will be at Arsenal this season.

I didn't expect any less. More tidbits:

SSN said Wenger said something along the lines of:

"we asked Samir to sign a new contract to protect his position at the club and he said 'why not'".

Interesting. It could be a put up or shut up kinda warning to clubs. Either put the money up now and give us time to find replacements or shut up.

I hope this is the start of a new era with clubs and player contracts (probably not). Villa should stand firm on Downing and the same with Man City on Tevez.

Well City hold all the aces as far as Tevez is concerned. Arsenal are in a slightly different position with Nasri.

I just had to pinch myself:

1 FC Barcelona 4238 (0)
2 Real Madrid 4028 (0)
3 Manchester United 3836 (+1)
4 FC Porto 3572 (0)
5 Chelsea 3488 (+1)
6 Bayern München 3369 (0)
7 Internazionale 3288 (0)
8 Arsenal 3227 (+1)
9 Valencia CF 3199 (0)
10 Olympique Marseille 3184 (0)
11 Manchester City 3145 (0)

Well the Gervinho bit is true. You have to tie Nasri in to a new deal. You can't run the risk of him just walking out in summer. So with Nasri it's either let him go to City for a cool £23m or get him to sign a new contract but you'd have to massively improve his wages. City are prepared to offer him £180k a week.

Yeah very true, not many clubs beside Chelsea could possibly match City's wage to Tevez. City are in control really, he's worth 40 million and no-one can afford that on top of his silly wages. He either sticks around and City shut him up with a 300,000 a week offer, or he takes a massive wage cut and goes to Real.

City can't really lose either way.

In regards to Nasri, I think he's basically ours, and all this recent stuff is just bluffing on Arsenl's part. For Arsenal's sake I hope they keep him, but I'm still fairly certain he'll be a Blue next season.

Best day ever (if true)

Bendtner apparently has 2 teams (dortmund + sporting lisbon) chasing for a 12 mil signature and Wenger saying Nasri and Fabregas will stay..

omg if true.

and then we could still be chasing anyone including Benzema, Mata, Downing, Cahill or Samba.. feels good to know we don't have to buy a new squad every season to compete. FFP will be awesome.

Wenger saying Cesc and Nasri will stay is par for the course. Not saying it won't happen, but at this stage he can't say anything else tbh.

Edit:- Direct quote

0957: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is confident Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri will remain at the club for the coming season. "Cesc loves the club and hopefully we will manage. I hope [Nasri will say] yes, but I am not the only one to decide," he told Sky Sports News.

Not that convincing tbh.

Couple of interesting lines from MUFC. Apparently the club has come out and said it will never sell the grounds naming rights, good to hear. Also they've said that the squad numbers announced before the tour are not confirmed for the season and could change. That means Nasri or Sneijder could take up the #4 or #18! I hope..

Finally got to watch the whole USA vs. Brazil women's match. Holy Christ, the equalizer was incredible. Nothing you can take away from that - FIFA tried to fuck us. We simply have the best soccer girls in the world.

Oh come on, it's not an allegation, just a little emotion after watching a really exciting match. I realize it sounds silly, and I don't honestly believe there's some kind of conspiracy - it just goes on to credit our ladies when they can play against such difficult odds and beat one of the favorites to win the tournament.

City have had a number of games moved to accommodate TV broadcasting:

City v Swansea, Monday 15 August, 8pm;
Bolton v City, Sunday 21 August, 4pm;
Tottenham v City, Sunday 28 August, 1.30;
City v Everton, Saturday 24 September, 12.45pm;
City v Aston Villa, Sunday 16 October, 1.30 (subject to possible change as a result of the Champions League group stage draw).
Manchester United v City, Sunday 23 October, 1.30;
QPR v City, Saturday 5 November, 5.30;
Liverpool v City, Sunday 27 November, 4pm.

City's full tour squad:

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, Stuart Taylor, Eirik Johansen, and Loris Karius.

Defenders: Micah Richards, Jerome Boateng, Vincent Kompany, Joleon Lescott, Dedryck Boyata, Gael Clichy, Aleksander Kolarov, Ryan McGivern.

Midfield: Shaun Wright Phillips, Vladimir Weiss, James Milner, Gareth Barry, Yaya Toure, Nigel De Jong, David Silva, Adam Johnson, Denis Suarez.

Strikers: Mario Balotelli, Edin Dzeko, Andrea Mancini, John Guidetti.

Andrea Mancini - Roberto's son haha.

Hopefully Guidetti can stamp some authority down and really make a bid for a place in the Premier League 25. Well there's no reason why he can't be involved in that squad because he's only 19, I think what I mean is hopefully he can vie for a place on the bench etc and start to introduce him into the team this season. He looks a talent.

Both Kompany and Richards seem to be really nice lads.

hmm, didn't realise Given was on the verge of an Aston Villa move.. it's a shame when you combine all the players in the Man City 'team' that weren't included in that tour squad you have a team that could compete in the premier league and has a wage higher than most clubs in the premier league still..

Fuck you, Modric. I look forward to seeing you report with an 'injury' before we go on tour to South Africa. Massive respect to Levy for telling the little weasel that he's not for sale and to fucking get over it. I will happily see him in the stands while Van Der Vaart, Huddlestone and Sandro do the job on the pitch.

Can you give me a short summary, I haven't been following the news lately.

Last week his agent says a move is up to Spurs, that Modric won't submit a transfer request and wouldn't mind staying at Spurs. Now Modric is saying Levy 'threatened' him with the bench/reserves, that they had a 'gentlemen's agreement' to consider any bids from bigger clubs, and that he may put in a transfer request and is determined to leave.

Even if there was a verbal agreement, we considered the single £22m bid from Chelsea, and considered it laughable. Until they come in with a bid that is in the £35m+ range, he should just get his head down and get on with it. Honestly I think we need to stand up to him and refuse to sell him as a matter of principle, I am sick of seeing classically 'big' clubs like Villa, Everton and Spurs lose all their best players to the rich teams.

This is why everyone teams up on you. It's not City. :-\ Just FYI

Anyway, I feel you, Bungie. I have a lot of respect for Levy fighting against the modern fickle footballer. There are basically three teams in the world that once you sign, you don't leave unless you get pushed out. Amazing that Liverpool used to be one of those clubs.

you think Modric is on par with Fabregas? mate...

So two video games that get 8.0 scores from reviewers are of equal quality? Do you think Fabregas (or Modric) is worth less than Torres?

Modric has many years left on his contract and Tottenham have no reason to sell. The Fabregas situation is different because of its length and the pressure coming from Barcelona. He hasn't been sold for 35m, regardless.

Well Fergie did say he was the best player in the PL last season, as did Dalglish. But what do they know.

German sport channel Sport1 did something great this weekend. There was a testimonial match of a Schalke player (Marcelo Bordon) and what does Sport 1 do?

yPxyQ.jpg

They put the Meisterschale and the Dortmund logo (biggest rival) on the screen. Thousands of Schalke fans on TV go mad. Fucking awesome :)

:lol Calm down mate, I afree with you in principle, but you're taking it a little far. You're just basing your hate on speculation.

Also, when did Tevez smear City? He was actually very gracious to the club in his statement, and thanked and praised the club several times...?
