DutchGAF, do you feel Seedorf doesn't receive as much credit as he should? I certainly do. The man has been a terrific football player but is either ignored or put in bad daylight by (the media in) our country. The dude is much better than Strootman (who I've personally played with btw
) but isn't even mentionned for our national team. Seedorf deserves much more credit!
I'm not from the Netherlands, so I don't actually know how people and journalists talk about him, but I'll try to explain why, at least in Milan, a lot of people are hoping that he'll leave in the next weeks.
He was one of the best players in Europe from 2002 to 2007, and nobody can say otherwise. The problem is that, the moment he won everything he had to, he stopped caring about his club and his career, probably certain that he did enough in the previous years. This year, and this is something that applies to the last five seasons as well, he probably was the worst Milan player out there (well, maybe Mesbah gets the top spot), he spent on average 85 minutes per match just wondering around the pitch, losing the ball every single time he had it. If you want to see an example of this, just watch the first half of Barça-Milan from this year CL's quarter finals. That's how he usually play, in particular against provincial sides (from this season he plays like crap against everyone, tbh). And, on top of that, he wants to play EVERY SINGLE GAME, doesn't matter if he isn't remotely close to look like a proper athlete. A few days ago I posted a statistic about his season: with him on the pitch, we got <1.4 points per match, iirc. Without him, we got around 2.5 points per match.
Of course, like many others players out there, he'll still have an incredible talent even when he'll be 50, he proved it yesterday with his pass for Inzaghi's goal. But, as of now, he's not fit to play in a top team, nor with the Dutch national team.
