Fortnite to be blacklisted from Apple ecosystem until the exhaustion of all appeals, could be up to 5 years.

sure. I really don't see why Apple could not have their own rules on their own store. It's a private company.
Same as epic has on their store.

All in all - it will be a bigger loss for apple since iphone must have been a hugely popular device for fortnite

Hahaha.

I have a company iPhone and it's fine. But I've never paid money into the ecosystem, dont buy Apple products, dont use EGS and the last Epic game I supported was playing Gears on Game Pass, since the last one I bought with cash was Gears 3.

Fun to see two dickish companies battle it out (one known for walled ecosystems and snooty attitudes, and another has a CEO who loves using Twitter and showing confidential emails).

Yea but all Apple cares about is their 30% cut on the App Store and when it comes to games they'd rather push people to pay $5 a month to Apple Arcade that's actually worse than EGS.

Did you know there's a new Castlevania game out? It's exclusive to Apple Arcade and not on consoles because Apple money-hatted Konami.

So Sweeney wants FN back on with an alternate "button" and Apple said not only no but FU until the court resolves the appeal? I'm okay with that.

Don't start shit if you can't handle it. You only have yourself to blame Tim. If you actually went against home console's bullshit overpriced to ridiculous stores I would understand your "consumer" view. It is all falls flat when you go against the 0.99 cents store and cry about consumer? Get the fuck out.

Makes perfect sense, if Tom Sweeney is genuinely surprised by this then he really needs to get better advice from his legal team.

It released on both iOS and Android in September 2019. It's certainly not new and I would imagine that if Apple had paid for it, then it wouldn't have also launched on Android two years ago.

So you're cheering for a company that's even more evil.

Uh, no. I wrote that I'm not a fan of Apple. Finding joy in the failure of Timmy is not the same as cheering for Apple.

In a perfect world they'd both be losers, but I'll settle for Timmy getting slapped around in this corporate bitch fight.

Having one of the biggest games of the decade not on your phones/tablets (and perhaps future games) isn't a good thing for apple either, I wonder if they know this.
Could cost them sales now and down the road.

that's no different to sony, microsoft or epic.
Only valve is not doing that

I don't know where people got that impression. They're the smallest platform that people play fortnite on. It won't affect apple at all.

www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2021/05/02/almost-half-fortnites-revenue-is-from-ps4-according-to-apple-court-docs/amp/

The documents show that from March 2018 to July 2020, the breakdown of Fortnite revenue by platform was as follows:

  • PS4: 46.8%
  • Xbox One: 27.5%
  • Android, Switch, PC: 18.7%
  • iOS: 7%

And on top of that, the exact ranking order is supposed to be:

PlayStation
  1. Xbox
  2. Switch
  3. PC
  4. iOS
  5. Android, though sometimes iOS is below Android

And we are supposed to be upset by this?

Ssooo my question is how has valve and Sony able to get away with in app purchases or is this solely for in game purchases?

Consoles (and steam) are obviously next. If they win this case they will move on to the other platforms. They can't wage war with everybody at once.

Too scared to go against MS, Sony and Nintendo.

I think that the majority of FN players are on PC, but Epic would still have a huge loss if consoles manufacturers closed doors on his nose like Apple did

I cant say this enough: what a fucking idiot

Tim Sweeney specifically said he would not pursue legal challenges to consoles or other platforms because they're "different.". This was his statement. So no. This is just specific for Apple. It's explained at 40:58 of video below.

good, fuck sweeney. too bad he is too rich for egs to fall and fail, but in due time..it will...its nowhere near as good as steam, doesnt even compete with uplay or origin.

This.

Parents picking up a tablet for little Timmy's Christmas gift are gonna go Android now.

This will have a real and measurable impact on Apple's bottom line, there's no question.

That said... what is a few million dollars lost out of the tens of billions Apple makes every year? Yeah, Apple ain't gonna give a shit.

I don't like Apple at all - but there is no doubt in my mind that Epic was far in the wrong here. They added functionality to their app that did things that were explicitly prohibited by the developer agreement and must have taken steps to hide this from app review, since if they hadn't then the app would have been rejected.

I can absolutely understand Apple feeling that Epic have acted in sufficiently bad faith that they cannot be trusted.

God forbid a company not pay their 30% tithe to the church of Apple.
