MS: Shows ingame gameplay trailer with apparent RT reflections enabled! Dude from MS dev team speaks and advertises the Game RT and 4K resolution!
Also MS: Official Forza Page displays that RT mode in only for View mode - Photomode! and game is running at 4K@30 lol (with optional 60fps mode though)
My humble opinion: That was some serious EPIC FAIL moment!

Cross gen games are setting everyone's expectations out of wack when it comes to frame rates.

This is true. And Forza is a cross gen game too. Wait till games start shipping on UE5 with a 1440p 30 fps target or if they use fancy hardware accelerated lumens lighting, 1080p 30 fps target. Then we would be lucky to get 1080p 60 fps modes.

At least with Forza, Ratchet and Horizon Forbidden West, they are targeting native 4k for their 30 fps modes so a 1440p 60 fps mode is easily doable. Devs will always prioritize visuals over framerate. And anyone who wants to see games look like this needs to settle for 30 fps.

I'm still team "30 fps is dead". Once you get used to playing at 60 fps, you won't go back to 30. We'll have 60 fps versions in most games throughout the entire generation. We might have to buy a Pro version of the console though.

The sense of speed in DriveClub is way better than anything in GT Sports or any other racing game this gen. Forza Horizon is a 30 fps franchise and it consistently outscored the mainline Forza series.

I really dont think 60 fps is a requirement for any game to be fun. Even shooters. Halo 2 and Halo 3 were 30 fps and in a league of their own compared to 60 fps shooters in their era. 60 fps is undeniably better, but everything comes at a cost and as soon as devs begin pushing next gen visuals, destruction, physics and NPCs, you will start seeing games target 1440p 30 fps and you will have to settle for 1080p or even sub 1080p 60 fps modes.

Wouldn't that just mean they can spend the extra overhead on other visual features like tessellation. Thats what Demon Souls Remake is doing.

Yea clearly this look great. Not the best looking game ever or look one gent ahead of HFW. Stop being so hype up and over reacting. The environment look excellent in motion, but you can see flaw when picture is taken without motion blur and this is fine for a racing game. Clearly there is one track level that look next gent. Hopefully they show that track more today.

post some daytime comparisons. Everything looks better in rain and under grey cloudy skies.

I said this earlier, but the biggest upgrade is the track side detail which is way beyond anything in Horizon 4 or any other racer out there. The Lighting engine and car detail seems to be fairly cross gen. I am guessing it's an engine limitation.

The draw distance is amazing too. You just dont see this level of detail that far into the distance in the last gen versions even on PC.

The gif actually doesnt capture all the detail in the distance, but the 4k video shows an insane amount of detail that is usually obscured by fog or just plain blurred out in last gen versions. (I played Horizon 4 on PC at max settings.)

The cars do look weirdly out of place and I cant put my finger on it. One of the points that stick out is the Lambo just sliding round the corner, like its just a block, on ice
This did stick out to me. Tbh, I noticed this even in FH4 when I played it on PC. Nonetheless, still excited to try this out.

But that's the point, they were up front about it in the video. They didn't hide it like the poster said.

The gameplay they showed, clearly had RT reflections in it! As i see it, it is "false advertising" because screen space reflections in the final release, wont be near as good as they showed

The series is not for me. It's way better than those awful Ubisoft racing games, but it didnt scratch that driveclub itch. It's visually spectacular so if you are a graphics whore you will get a good 5-10 hours out of it even if driveclub is more of your jam. i think the xsx is worth it if you dont have a PC especially with Star Citizen coming out in 2022 as a true next gen title.

No it did not. Those were all screenspace. I dont know what else I can say at this point.

Or a PC. This is why I'm all into MS's strategy of creating this huge, connected ecosystem, as oppose to traditional closed console experience and exclusives, where when you're fucked, you're fucked, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Yep. Thats the silver lining to PS exclusives coming to PC. You wont have to make concessions like people are being forced to make if they want to play Ratchet at 60 fps with RT. That is, if you have a powerful GPU that costs $700 on its own. I think 20 tflops is the minimum if you want to run these games at double the framerate without any concessions on resolution and settings.

I am not interested in Mexico, I don't think it is a great location. The games have been great though and it is on gamepass so I will be playing it.

Its an ‘Arcade racer’, not a simulation. It does reward you with winning, but if you’re happy just to continue not to unlock shit and not have gold trophies next to each race that’s on you. You can blast through GT1 licence tests to in 5 minutes if you don’t strive for perfection.

But, since it’s so easy that you feel your brain dribbling out show us your achievement scores with all assists turned off, and times on the hardest difficulty.

I played it a year ago and so my memory is a little hazy. I remember it not mattering where I placed in races and maybe not even recording it? It certainly didn't show my best times on a track and when I raced I didn't know if it was my best time i think.

I remember posting something along the lines of the above.

I didn't say it was easy! I said there's literally no point to trying to place well in a race as you're not rewarded for it and it seems to barely acknowledge that you've done so. It's all open and unlocked from the get-go so what's the point?

So what rewards do you get as I had the races unlocked and really nice cars anyway? I remember not feeling a need to practise on a track or get good at a corner etc as I didn't even think my times were being saved so what's the point?

Honestly I don't get it.

And I don't want a simulation, I want this game with a proper progression system and recorded times, lap times, my ghosts to race against, and tension when I'm doing well and I'm worried I might blow it. You know, everything an arcade racer used to have before they turned it into "everyone is a winner driving but not racing game".

Such a huge waste. It could be so good.

I own FH4 on PC, and its probably the best looking racing game i ahve played, open world anyway, but FH5 is a clear step up. The detail is far beyond it.

as a positive to 4k/30 and seperate 60fps option... this tells me they are atleast pushing next gen far and is not just a port up, since Horizon 4 was 4k/60, if this was the same i would question how much of an improvement there would be

I guess you are right. Last gen X should also be able to do 1080P 30fps like the SS but base version will probably run at 720P 30fps. So obviously this game was not intended for it.

And even if that scenario is true, wouldnt that mean that the devs have continued to target visual fidelity over 60 fps framerates which is PRECISELY what I was saying.

No you said they targeted visuals over frame rate. If they did then frame rates would still be 20fps because games are playable at that output (see N64 games) and would look better than 30fps games.

So they don't always target visuals over frame rate, do they? In fact, I'd say they almost never do.
