There's a set of Road & Track contest going on right now some of you guys might like. It's open to these countries.

The contests have some cool prizes like a year subscription to Road & Track and signed prints. For the time trial there are 4 Fanatec 911 Turbo S steering wheels 3 for top 3 times and 1 which will be given to a random time on the leaderboards as well. You don't need the pack to participate, the sample will work (mini coupe concept).

Man I want one of those wheels, I would need furniture though before I get one though haha

Too bad you work for Turn 10 lol...I want one of those too but I live in Quebec so no luck for me either.... (stupid government with the weird and useless laws...)

What was last weeks VIP car? I hit Accept without reading what it was, and trawling through my cars is like trying to find a needle in a haystack...

I took some photos of the Game Room car!!! First one is my fave...

Love that shot, that car was a lot of work the layer limit was always sneaking up on me. The logo took up a big part of it. I was happy with how the pole positioned R8 came out though lol. Last weeks VIP car didn't have a livery on it but it is resellable for credits although locked to your account. It was the Top Secret Supra.

You can make a private multiplayer race with AI to make all your wishes come true.
Drawbacks are that you have no rewind, no pause (so no photo mode during race, my main complaint) and it's a pain in the ass to setup even with saved setup as you need to specify the racing class you want to race in, otherwise, the AIs will take R class cars.

A simple "select car, track, number of laps, assists and AI" money earning mode would have been perfect. The current arcade mode is near useless as you don't even earn any money and in Forza 3 you HAVE to earn money any time you go out on track... :/

I tried this last night but found out that you're not even able to access the multilayer screen if you're not a gold member.

Indeed, a fix to this is as badly needed as uncompressed photo export. Just make the same interface an extention in "free play" mode and allow LAN or system link, but not to hopper servers. No reason not to except to extort users for Live Gold fees.

i just started racing online again and i see that a helluva lot of racers are still racing in AWDs...... and what the hell? is the LP640 the new S5? :/

Well, I've officially crossed the 400
awfully compressed
photos mark !

Here are some photos of the cars I've used a lot lately. My RWD Mégane is really fun to drive, it's my a new C Class car. :D
I've finally be able to buy the V12 Vantage. I already loved the stock version but the tuned version is even better. The car has so much grip, it's ridiculous almost 4WD-esque. I think it's at 6.3 at handling and braking !:lol
The Brabus E V12 is just ridiculously awesome with its 950+ Nm of torque !:lol

Also, as usual, the photos looked 10x better when taking them so I only put smaller version here...

Forza398.jpg

I went backward and hit an AI and ended up in this position. I could have done the whole Hunaudière straight like that !:lol

The Murcielago has been the 'alternative' S5 for a while now.

And its not 'a helluva lot' of people racing AWD cars. Its almost everybody. I dont blame people for doing it, because they are so blatantly superior than RWD in the game(I do blame Turn 10 for that), but it does ruin the experience for those of us who want some 'proper' RWD motorsports action.

I wouldn't say they are superior on a single lap, it's just most races are so short that the huge advantage you get off the line cannot be made up.
Even if you are half a second quicker, passing 3 or 4 cars in a couple of laps can be a very tall order.
Surprisingly, I've found the multiclass races help quite a bit.

The goal of cleaning out the old files is to help speed up search times on the storefront, if you have a file that might be removed just have a friend pop in and take a look at it so it stays there.

Let's hope never and I say that as a huge Mustang fan. Love them IRL, but not as "yet another" in this game which still has huge gaps to fill in the lineup. Same reason the Corvette GS was met with a resounding "meh" since the Z06 and ZR1 were both available already.

Between the '05 GT and '07/'10 Shelby, we already have enough 5th generation Stangs to last a lifetime. There's no need to add the new V6 (which would be roughly the same as the current '05 GT which is not a good D-class car) or the new 5.0 (which would be roughly the same as the '05 w/ Cammer swap).

Please don't listen to this man. I want the new Mustangs so badly. Both the V6 and the 5.0. Please please please.

I would also kill for Crown Victorias. Any kind, but obviously the Police Interceptor would be the best choice for a racing game. I would worship T10 for the '06 Crown Vic PI P71.

Quick question regarding the Nurburgring track pack that was released: Does it integrate itself into the single player mode?

Also, any other track packs on the way?

None that that have been announced.
But there will be a patch that will allow you to import PGR4 tracks and TDU's island.

Lame! I thought the way of how the game was shipped on two discs it would've been a given that any DLC would make its way into the single player season mode.... For shame Turn 10!

That'd be so sweet, PGR4 London and Shanghai in 60fps goodness. :D

I agree with you, I want the 2011 Mustang. I think it's amazing that we can drive all this 2010 cars that I read about just a few months ago. Oh, Jube, I really like that Porsche in the Road & Track pack. It is now my favorite car to drive.

The career really get boring when you get into the 4th-5th season.

There should be a mode where you get random track car class to race after, where they can intergrate DLC tacks a la Race Day or something.

apparently not, and that's incredibly dumb, considering the career mode is supposed to dynamically change locations and events depending on the stuff you installed from the second dvd.

Which makes buying new tracks rather pointless since, just like what happened with forza 2 dlc, they can only be used online or in stupid free race mode, which suffers from dumb rubberband ai, no adjustable lenght or realism.

Seriously, T10, you need to patch this stuff for people playing offline too. I need a proper free race mode where i can pick 7 cars to race against (even pick them from my garage) and adjust AI, lenght, damage etc. Career gets boring after a while, why should i go back racing with a yaris to compete in an event which will reward me a grand 2000 credits, after unlocking R1 class ?

It's actually been a while since I played forza 3 online now as I have nothing to earn from it and well just don't feel motivated to go online with it, but I agree map packs should be built into the offline stuff a lot better then it is currently. It would have been nice if the season mode made random events up so it could use DLC packs, a proper offline quick race mode where we pick AI cars and laps, plus earn money just like a private bot lobby on live!

forza 3 improved a ton in most areas but dropped the ball in others, really though if they build the dlc into single player better I bet they would get more sales, I would buy it, currently I am passing on them (and I bought forza 2's DLC too at least that stuff had arcade mode stuff and TA to do)

Also the all gold in all events achievement is such a boring snooze to complete, they should have gone with "race in every cup" so it didn't matter if I finished first or last, right now I am racing on easy so I don't have to waste 30 minutes replaying a cup if I come 2nd... with a better achievement I would actually play the game 100% on hard mode and it would still take the same total time to complete all races.

All this makes me kind of angry at the game designer, whyyyyyyyyyyyy

There is a myth that developers hold back big chunks of content so they can make money on DLC later. As far as I know, this just isn't true.

Not an intentional design decision but more of a tech limitation AFAIK.

Can you explain in a little more detail? If you don't know, can you ask someone who does or should know? I'm not a programmer but it baffles me (and others, if this thread is anything to go by) how what is essentially DLC from disc 2 is incorporated but DLC from XBLM is not. It just doesn't seem to make any kind of sense from a layman's perspective.

Is it something that is possible to fix? If not, why not? How is the disc 2 scenario any different to traditional DLC that it's impossible to fix?

Would it makes any difference if you know the technical reason why? I mean in the end it's the technical reason, regardless of why. As far as why disc 2 install work, I am thinking because there are just two set of career, one with disc 2 install one without.

Again, instead of career mode, once you finish may be they should have it unlock 'raceday' type where you get random tracks set and you can pick the car class you want.

edit: it seems all the racing game have the same problem. I don't think any of the current crop of racing game allow intergration of DLC track. (Race Pro is the only one I know that have DLC track)

While you're at it, ask the men in charge of the web/photo mode :
1)Why haven't we seen an upgrade in compression ?
2)Is there any plan to update the photo mode at all ?

Even better, will there be new updates or are you done with that and will only support the DLC ?

And now, let us... let us pray that Che returns with informations !:lol

NFS Shift comes packed with new events even for cars-only DLC ! Track DLC came packed with events too !
Midnight Club added a whole area with dozens of new event !
PGR4 had new event coming with the only DLC the game had which added new track layout !
I think that GRID got new career event with Bathurst too but I'm not sure about that one.

I think part of the problem is that calendar system, which at first seems like a great idea but the more I get into the season the more annoy I am at it because I am tired of doing another 6 laps at Laguna in R3 cars. Now I spend most of the time just pick and choose from the grid and just race with cars I want.

Those games you mention, they don't really intergrate into career mode (with exception of Midnight Club) since they actually extend the career right? (I am not sure since I haven't pick up any of the DLC for those games). But that is exactly what Forza 3 should do, is add an "extended" career mode and used that to intergrate the DLC tracks.

Back before the game launch I remember hearing on podcast that they are going with dynamic calendar system so they can fully intergrate the DLC stuff but it seems that didn't really happen, and the calendar is just "canned" event. It would be great to see AI drive the new DLC cars that you purchased but I don't think they do as far as I can see.

DiscoJer

The original Juiced, which used a Calender system, had a thing where you could host your own events on empty days. Pick the type of racing, what track, what car classes...

xMk2x said:
It would because it seems like a cop-out response.

Isn't that most of the community manager response for any thing anyway when they can't really answer (for whatever reason). I agree with you totally that it's lame that DLC stuff are not intergrate. I remember being really excited by the dynamic calendar system but it seems the calendar system just pick from the pre-baked events.

Yes I bought it from the storefront. I'll post the name of the guy when I fire up the console. :)

Yeah it's true that they only extend the career mode, antiquegamer.
What I don't understand is that the calendar just pick events from the grid based on some criteria, so adding a row or column of event would just add events to the pool from which the calendar chooses. At least if the career was well programmed (we don't know if it was), it would work...

The other day, I was thinking that a way to reward the racers would be to convert XP in money since the XP only gets you discount after level 50 (and that's only if you diversify the cars you use). Another way would be through the number of kilometers (or miles) traveled. This would also give hot lappers money as I'm sure they've got a big amount of km.

Thinking about it I have only raced on the huge test track once due to it not being in the career mode, sort of a waste imo. It has some fun variants in forza 2.

Now that I have experienced forza 3 for months there are a lot of "why" questions I could ask, but they would never be answered. There are plenty of parts which seem rushed (not surprising this gen)

G Rom

Yep, I totally agree Daiblohead. I deeply think that Forza 3 was rushed to be out before that-other-game which was still rumored to be out for christmas then...

It's a shame because, I also think that with another six months, the game could have been much higher on the scale of awesomeness.
In six months here are the things that I would have concentrated my efforts on :
- Making all the dashboard works (it's a shame that even level gifted cars don't have working dashboards)
- Adding active aero (it's the kind of detail which adds a lot IMO)
- (Shipping with) better driver animations for all cars
- Put higher LOD in replay or at least for close-up shots
- Make a better photo mode (best viral marketing for a racing game !)
- Make better LOD in-game (some cars are so ugly...)
- Improve colors and lighting
- Greatly improve shaders (reduce that specular lighting and and take it off the lights dammit !)
- Replace ugly textures with actual shading on the greatly modeled lights.
-Better braking lights colors (almost all the photos taken with braking lights on end up ugly because the light just become plain red-rosish)
- Add mat, chrome, etc... paints (the Peugeot 908 isn't shinny at all dammit !)
- Add a true arcade mode
- Add a true online mode

Most of these things could have probably be done in 6 months as most of them are fixes for things that are already in the game.

Turn 10 should just release a big update fixing issues and adding some small things. They could even re-release the game in store too. Here's the packshot of this new version :

More Audi than ever and Official Chesus Seal got me :lol :lol :lol

I've been playing some of the lower class events lately to get closer to 100% completion, and is it so wrong that in certain cases, I actually enjoy them more than I did the upper class?

Like I'm racing in D/C/B/A classes and they're just good fun. It feels like I'm starting over again :lol

I'm no longer buying any car DLC because of the lack of quick race options. I don't think there's any technical reason not to allow us to pick how many cars, or laps.

I also think that Turn10 put too much emphasis on things like "visual tire deformation", when in all actually, you really don't even notice this, even in replays. If know it may affect the car's handling (although I can't tell the difference), but it wasn't necessary to make it visual. You have to have eagle eyes to even notice this. And even if you could, there's not enough polygons in the rubber to pull this effect off. Not a good use of resources. Time should have been spent on all the other "suggestions" that people have been posting in this thread.

I wish all the people posting about forza 3 weren't the people who just always complain about photomode.

The thing about your list is the things in it are stuff that only .01% of the people would even notice. meanwhile you didn't even mention the hitching that often occurs when notifications pop up during the game. of all the things that definitely should be sorted, it's the one that actually affects gameplay, and that anyone would notice.

The compression going down on photos? It's never going to happen. breathe.

G Rom

Member
Well I mainly complain about the photo mode because I like to take photos and I don't understand why Turn 10 gimped the mode which can get them the most sale along the livery editor (people don't care about tire flex, they care about high quality photos). HQ photos + livery editor would be the best viral marketing for the game. Instead we get crappy photos which doesn't favor the liveries made nor the game at all. Oh and don't worry, I'm sure painters and tuners have many complaints too. :lol

The hitching actually happens to me (didn't happen before I moved my profile to the USB key weirdly) but I simply forgot to put it on the list. Honestly, I think people would notice more photorealistic colors/lighting over fixing this hitching as it does only affect 0.01% of Forza 3 players and not each time a pop-up comes in.

And if many things that are on that list would indeed help to make better photos, it would also help to have better looking cars and overall a better looking game. I don't know about you but I play this game because I enjoy watching and driving cars that I can only dream to drive or afford in real life. Pretty much every time I play, I stop and watch the career car on the Camino Viejo track as it's where it looks the best (more environment for that would be great too ! :D ).
That's also why I bitch about the in-game money. I don't play racing games which have hundreds of cars in it to have the same constraints as in real life and not being able to afford the cars I want !

In the end, it's just a videogame. There are much worse things in life than a photo mode compression or hitching when a friend connect but when you like a thing and feel that it could have been so much better with just little tweaks, it's just frustrating !:D

Not that I don't agree that better IQ on the photomode output would be valuable for viral/community marketing, but we're not going to do additional work on photomode.

BTW Skyfinch, you can do a custom quick race by setting up a multiplayer race and filling the lobby with 7 other AI cars.

Well, I won't hide the fact that I'm disappointed but thanks for the honest answer Che. I prefer that to waiting indefinitely for something to happen or someone to speak.

Will DLC be the only support the game gets or is there going to be any other title update coming ? (I don't think you'll be able to answer but it's worth giving a shot :D )

The only thing that bugs me in this game and the only thing that made me stop playing the game a few months back was the pitiful amount of credits you earn in return for your time invested. It really really stinks and considering there's so many different cars and upgrades in this game, it doesn't make sense at all.

I've said this before but I think the problem can be solved very simply. All T10 would have to do is make the level gift cars have the same resale value as their in-game store version. This actually has the benefit of killing two birds with one stone; gamers get more credits to play around with in the game and the auction house will no longer be flooded with worthless cars. As a bonus, players will also end up being able to customize their garages to only contain cars that they actually like and not have all the eyesores filling it up.

I just don't understand why T10 doesn't seem to think this is a problem with the game.
