I don't know if they still put the "day one DLC" codes in new copies. Try to see if it's written on the box otherwise it would cost you 10$/€ or more (don't remember the prices on XBLM) to download them.

Thanks. I ended up getting a gutted copy that had the code tab ripped off and the code used. Luckily I called gamestop and they gave me one that worked.

Yeah, found that out in-game. :lol

Are there any recommended tutorials on drifting?

Even though I could write a list of it's niggles as long as my arm (almost all have been covered already here) Forza 3 is still by far, my favorite game of this gen.

gorgeous pics, too bad jpeg compression makes resizing mandatory.
Also, i can't wait for
console
games to have a similar IQ.
I want next gen forza to look at least like that.

Actually, i think it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring FM3 to PC at this point. I know i would buy it again to play with highest lod models and textures, better shaders and PP and 8xaa. Why not, Microsoft ?

OMG. You've tweaked the lighting so well in these. They look amazing with GT5-like lighting. I'd kill for a pic of your photo effect settings :p

I would kill to be able to keep those settings ingame and during replays :p

i find that cranking up "exposure" sometimes gives good results, since it enhances light sources (doesn't just increase overall brightness) and reflections pop out more as a result, of course you should adjust brighness and contrast as a consequence, while saturation depends on the track (on some of them weird colours were used for textures, so you have to tone saturation down to achieve a realistic look, while other tracks are spot on).
Also, different car paints give better results on different tracks; i find that red non-metallic cars look best in mugello for example; lighting is also good on tsukuba, motegi (but everything looks overexposed) suzuka, silverstone, benchmark ring and sidewinder. I was never able to take decent shots of Sedona, but if you can exclude the scenery from your pic, then white cars can look great there (when in the shadow especially). New york and amalfi are generally too colourful if you're going for realism (but they both have a couple sweet spots). Bright metallic colours generally work well since they defeat that pesky specular on cars' bodies and cars with decals will generally look better since those stickers help hiding the slightly flat lighting and...oh well...getting good results in FM3 photo mode requires its own strategy book, and i could never take pics as good as G Rom's anyway :)

eso76 was spot on when he said that you need your own strategy book. It's all about hiding the game's flaws.
One of the first thing that I do now, is to ditch the official paints and make my own. No metallic paint as they are far from looking metallic unfortunately. Get a normal paint and fine tune it (X button) to make it look better. Remember to look at your color in the home space (where the cameras go all around the car in Camino Viejo) as the color in the menus aren't representative (they are much more saturated on tracks/in home space).

THE first thing to learn when in photo mode is to take photos where you either don't or almost don't see the specular lighting (big white splash all over the car). A photo with that in the way will not be good or at least won't be realistic.

Then you have to find your settings which will change many times and depending on which track your are, which car you have, which color your car is. Some tracks have a terrible amount of bloom for example (Laguna Seca, Motegi, Sedona...). Some colors are harder to work with, with red being the hardest I think because the game oversaturate it a lot more than the other colors and it looks terrible after going through the jpeg compression torture.

Then it's a matter of knowing what to hide. For example if I see a texture not so good looking I'll use the aperture slider or the shutter speed one. Remember that mixing blur and motion blur is often very bad looking as it create some sort of cheap bloom.
Trees are also most of time hidden. Some tracks have terrible looking trees even when blured (Motegi for example) whereas some tracks have trees that look fantastic when motion blured (Circuit de la Sarthe for example).
I usually don't put liveries on cars anymore because the photo mode doesn't take the highest texture quality so they almost never look good.

As eso76 said, there are some sweet spot on almost every track but some are easier to get at (you can easily see some in my photos).

The FM logo is way bigger than it should be. It should never overlap on the car and always be on the scenery.

I recently found out when changing TV that having a 1:1 mode on the TV is a great tool as you can see the entire photo. See if you have a color difference between your TV and what is ouput on your computer. I know that I have almost the same colors and all between the two.

Edit: You already have the all gold achievement, twinturbo2 ?
That's the one I'm struggling to get. I'm only at 49,6% of the career, but I keep going in photo mode each time so a 5 minutes race becomes a 10/15 minutes one with me !:lol

I dont think I will be finishing all career events.
I got to level 50 a very long time ago, but completing all these races where there really is no competition, the money is so little, you can cheat on your car, and have no leaderboards, really makes them feel more pointless than it should be.

Yes, all this.

Oh yeah, I agree.
My "new" way of doing the career races is that I pick or buy a car and find a championship which I haven't completed and I make a race or two in it. That way I can avoid getting the same tracks over and over and I have a different car for almost all races.

I miss leveling up because when you had a car, you had the cool animation with nice music. I wish there was the same thing when you buy a new car !:D

In my book, its refining stuff like these (that where better on previous forzas) that will make forza an even better game,
not that kinect bullshit!!

I am a bit (just a little bit) dissapointed that there has not been a patch or whatever to build on those things. But hey, we got animating hands on gearshifts after release :/
I can only imagine they are busy with their next project.

And just to put things (and my complaints) into real perspective, one can complain about those things only after accumulating so many hours of gameplay that most other games cannot imagine to offer.

I came back to play this recently and i have to say that I do like the new multi-player races that force everyone to use the same car (without tunes).

It brings out the driver aspect in these races and it's not the same old S5 brigade as you see everywhere else.

Forza 4 hopefully fixes the PI system. If your PI is the same there shouldn't be as much discrepancy as there is now.

I don't really think it was better in previous Forza, at least not in Forza 2 which was a borefest IMO. In the Forza 2 case, it's just that there was less races and you didn't need to grind to get the cars you wanted. That's why it seem better now IMO.
I do think Forza 1 was better though because it relied a lot less on ribbons and had actually fewer but much different tracks and two night tracks. One other thing is that you actually got to race on those track. I still remember the beginning of Forza 2 career where you had to do every ribbon possible of Sidewinder before getting to real tracks... :(

Forza 3 must be my most played game this generation. :D
I think I must be above 100 hours of driving, taking photos, waiting for FM.net to load, tuning, occasional painting, etc..

My hours in forza must be in the thousands,
and let me remind you that both previous forza's DID have specific leaderboards per career race, and not only in best lap like F3, but overall race leaderboards too, which where the most important when judging one's abilities, because of course a SINGLE lap says nothing to me about consistency, one of the virtues any driver should posses.

It is this consistency that will make you beat those s5 drivers in a race with a slightly inferior car, and the measure of this value is one of the things that went missing in F3.

I agree that the PI system needs to change. I think Dan said on the Turn 10 podcast that currently the PI is based on a perfect lap of an average track.

I'm sure that a part of why AWD dominates comes down to that getting close to a a perfect lap is much easier to do with a grippy AWD car than a high powered RWD car. Also I think that the track that they used to calculate the PI also favours grippy AWD cars.

I'm just happy that it's much better than in Forza 2 where the missile cars ended dominating even the short tracks like Laguna Seca.

G Rom

Member
IIRC PI was calculated with an AI doing a lap of a track without assists in Forza 2, that's why there were missile cars. The AI "thought" that the car was uncontrollable and thus put a lower PI but people found ways to control those thing...
In Forza 3, PI is supposedly calculated with all assists on and the car go on different tests beside a lap.

I think it was last week that I saw an S5 on a parking lot. I so thought of Forza 3. Should have waited for the guy and yelled "You cheater !" at him ! :lol

No, I only have about 25-30 percent of the events complete, I just play season mode. I'm saving the rest of them until I complete Year 6.

F2 let you own every car even if you had duplicates, I would say there is no limit but you will get huge loading slowdown after you hit a high number, just like with photos and shit.

550 is the limit and you shouldnt have problems browsing that list (I'm sitting at 510 atm). You do run into the problem of deciding which car to drive though :lol If you go that route definitely go with a labeling system (grid view in the car section, R trigger to select cars and then create group). Im currently running these groups - Grip tune, Drift, designs, VIP series, multiclass tune, drag.

I remember you taught us how to do this when you were on JTV in the prerelease days. I've been suing it since day 1 and I'm loving it.

No doubt that a PC version would be great to see the full potential of the work done by Turn 10 !:D

Also, I saw the "week in review" this week-end. No sign of a
Forzalopnik
DLC at all in it... :(
It's a shame because with the huge avalanche of games beginning to roll out next week, it'll go unnoticed when it hits the marketplace in a month or two.

2 new Turn 10 Select Hoppers are up

V8 Supercar Showdown
One of our most-requested hoppers will feature Aussie models from Ford and Holden tackling various courses in 7-10 minute races with full simulation damage.

Stock Car Circuit Racing
Rubbing is racing here, where you’ll find stock cars trading paint along some of Forza’s finest circuit tracks. As an Alabama native, all I can say is “Yeehaw!”

Got gold membership for birthday. Did a private race with all AI cars set on hardest. Have to say, they're pretty damn challenging. I can usually get a 30sec lead after a lap of Nurburgring, on quick race, but on private race, second place is still hanging around.

Also, some photos.

I love this game, but looking at the Ferrari store made me so sad. How is it possible to afford the 10+ million dollar cars? I am at the start of the final season but only have 900k.

Do you guys just grind endurance races to afford these? I'm pretty sure some of these cars came from a DLC pack. Not sure why you have to pay $10+ on XBL and still pay credits in game.

I think I had over 6 million cr at one point and that's after already buying all the cars I wanted. If you're on the final season, 900k seems pretty low. Do you have assists on?
