yeah, i'm debating if kinect would be worth it myself. i'll wait for detailed impressions on the head tracking - and maybe just hold off entirely what with the 360 successor likely to be out in ~2 years

For FM 4 kinect is totally worth it IMO.


I picked up the arcade bundle with the free $100 giftcard from bestbuy.

You can always go for dance central 2 down the road and other justifiably awesome to be kinect games and for features in other high profile games.

i really liked the "look into corners" feature of shift 2's helmet cam so, for me at least, kinect head tracking would feel more natural. i just hope that 1) its quite responsive, and 2) it allows you to look all around the cars interior - not just left and right.

I liked it in GT5 and I was really angry when I found out that it only worked in the arcade mode. God, I was pissed.

And compared to track IR (and presumably Kinect, given 3d body-tracking, etc.), GT5's headtracking is pretty rudimentary, while functional enough.

The great thing is that you don't really have to turn your head, which is what makes "normal" headtracking (even incredibly responsive and precise ones) feel a bit awkward.

You do if you want to look sideways ingame. Moving your head left/right will only pan the camera.

The point is that even a soft panning of the camera could help a lot entering a corner.

And some players will prefer that.

And you can mix both movements as you like, even better.

it does, but unless i'm mistaken, that vid only showed tracking for left and right. hopefully there are options to tinker with the settings to have more freedom to look up and down for an example. as a wheel player, i miss being able to look around the interiors!

I disagree, panning is pretty much useless to follow an apex, which is unfortunate because thats the only part that works properly in GT5s headtracking -.-

If you consider panning as a mechanical horizontal movement, then yes, it's pretty much useless.

But if you look at the video posted above, the guy playing naturally leans and slightly rotate his body to the right extent.

I also miss being able to pan around the outside of the car! But yeah, I agree.

Plus, that video practically sold me on Kinect right there. Won't get it right off the bat as I'll see how it works with people here on GAF that will try it, but damn that looked awesome.

Pretty low that some of those cars are DLC ones, to tempt people to buy car packs for FM3 one month before FM4 launches.
And by low, I mean good business sense. Just like keeping tracks back for DLC.
