Forza Motorsport 4 - The Floodgates Have Opened...

The first car selection is always fun.

I remember in Forza 3 I picked the Fiesta and kept getting beat by the AI Twingo every single race. My stock Fiesta just did not have the acceleration. :(

Still gonna pick the Ka this time and see how I get on. :p

With a couple of more tweaks, SHIFT 2 could've been the best racer out there. I still love it to bits. Shame it wasn't fixed properly..

The wait is killing me. I just picked up Shift 2 for $20. I hope it helps the next 6 weeks fly by.

Spam the fuck out of Spa and Bathurst over the next six weeks. That way you won't miss them when FM4 launches.

maybe i went into it wrong, but i assumed it was a simulator. it was devloped by SMS who developed GTL and GTR2 which are amazing racing sims but i was very disappointed with the physics of both SHIFTs

Yeah, but they are Need For Speed titles, published by EA. It's a bit naive to think that EA would let the them publish full-blown sims as main titles (at least the first Shift was a main NFS game).

They just have a few guys that worked on those titles, they didn't develop those games. At least I'm pretty sure that was the case.

The SMS guys really wanted to deliver an amazing sim experience but were held back quite a lot by the higher ups. At every turn, they were hounded. If only they were given absolute freedom.
I didn't understand EA's philosophy. They purposely created two entires a year for the franchise. A sim and arcade based experience respectively. Now, why would you hold back on any of those concepts?
You had the arcade game with obvious arcade leanings there for the masses to enjoy. Why would you then try and inject the same shit into your so called FM and GT killer as well?
Boggles the fucking mind!

And then they let SMS go and cancel the more sim approach for the future games. Shitty Black Box churning 'em out as fast as they can from now on just like they used to. Maybe a Crterion release, but I don't see them working with EA much longer either.

But oh hey, The Run will have 3-5 Porsches, so fans got that to look forward to.

Awesome, might be able to get myself a Fanatec Turbo S. Only the wheel though, but I've already got a G25 and the pedals work with the fanatec. The only thing keeping me from getting hyped for Forza 4 is that I no longer have a 360 compatible wheel and there's no way I'll go back to using a gamepad for anything that's even close to a sim.

Am I the only one that kind of enjoys the drag races in F3?

I mean the only way to get any kind of fun out of them is to play with manual w/ clutch but I think they're kind of a nice change of pace every now and then.

Agreed.

Shift 2 PC for mindboggling graphics, night racing, scary speed, autolog and track selection.
GT5 for the full package and also crisp visuals. So many little annoyances though. Worth the price of entry just for Nordschleiffe with dawn->day->night transitions.
Forza for a solid well rounded racing game with amazing community features. Custom liveries, tuning setups, the works. No real annoyances (outside of some graphics issues) which is saying a lot.
Dirt 3 for my rally fix + night/snow/rain/tricks, drop dead gorgeous visuals too.
Test Drive Unlimited 2 for open world free roams, even if the game is also annoying in many ways.
Burnout Paradise for open world arcade driving bliss, co-op challenges and general mayhem.

If you really love driving games its nigh impossible to settle on just one game. Next up for me is Forza 4 and Driver: San Francisco.

I'm looking for something to tide me over until Forza, been playing PGR 4 with my kid over system link but it's not enough. I'm pretty much done with GT5, hated Dirt 3's drifting and gymkhana events and never got into F1 2010.

Is there a single mod that fixes Shift 1? I can't be arsed with installing multiple mods, they usually end up breaking the game but single solution would be ace.

I've got rFactor and LFS sat here but I want something a little more gamey.

That's pretty cool. Assuming that was online, right?

In other racers that have rubber band AI it's pretty common to get finishes like that. In Split/Second, for instance, literally every other race you will have 2 or 3 AI cars finish within a second of you.

On the subject of videos, I hope Turn 10 have made video downloads in to a YouTube-friendly format this time. What a cock-up that was in Forza 3. :p

good choice.

the best racer currently on the market. forza 4 has got to be flatout amazing to top it.

if by current you mean 'excluding everything that came out before or after it" yeah.
Meh, i really hated shift 2. it had a very nice track selection and set of features, i'll give it that, but all forza 4 has to do to top it is 'not be worse than its predecessors'.

in other news..the leaked trailer (obviously not a leak; that's not how you put together a video that's intended for internal use only) did say 5 *all new* locales, indeed that wouldn't account for returning fm1 tracks if there were any.
To our knowledge, there's 5 unused slots in the track page.
I don't think they're saving slots for DLC and if 27 was the total amount of new environments they would have arranged the slots in a different way
Fm3 came with 10 new tracks/environments.
six weeks left, with a few important reveals before launch.

nope, I don't believe indianapolis is all they have left.

put the mask down, T10. Those 5 slots are

Blue Mountain Raceway
Alpine Ring
Rio
Tokyo
Pacific Shipyards

ok, maybe not all of them, but with new york gone that would leave the game with no city track at all...strange.
T10 revealed fujimi kaido at tgs 2009. They said this year's will be bigger than that. How can a bigger reveal than fujimi not be track related ? I doubt it's just super GT cars and, say, gimkhana -they said they'll have something for drifters, gimkhana sounds easy to implement-)

conspiration theory #7 makese sense.

Does anyone have a link to a download of the leaked trailer? I don't know where mine is and I feel like watching it again.

Thanks for the YT link, eek! I do seem to remember though that the file I'd downloaded was slightly higher quality/less compressed than that YT one... so if anyone can still provide it, I'd be grateful!

In the meantime, that will suffice :)

Well because there are no "coming soon" markers, there really aren't 32 slots. I mean it could end up like the car listing with a bunch of empty spaces after it.

I don't think it was ever in HD was it? I can't remember though..

there's more.

5 all-new locales, all shown in the video with carefully selected shots showing famous tracks landmarks the community would instantly recognize...

the leaked trailer released on april 1st.

people quickly realized it was legit and assumed all info in it was correct.

...but what if it's the longest running april fool in the industry ?

(i know, i need help)

One thing I've learned from T10 is most often then not it's WYSIWYG. If you hope there is more, you'll usually get super disappointed. :(

did you count nurburgring gp ?

and yes, they could just leave empty spaces (they left 80 slots for cars, but they realized they actually needed 81 the other day, that's why last row is empty, save for one slot) but if the number was different they would have arranged the slots in a different way ?
