Thanks for joining up with the races today everyone. It was a blast. I recorded the race results, I'll post those later with points. Sorry it took so damn long to get the races started, it took some figuring out for the party invite system. Next week will be much smoother, I hope. Also I'll pick shorter tracks so it doesn't take too long to run through them.

I'll be online later tonight after the kids get to sleep if anyone wants to do some more racing.

Ok, race idea:
LeMons of Prague. 20 laps on Prague short. D class. Full damage.

Cars must be: 20,000 cr or less when purchased stock, and more than five years old. You must add a roll cage and put a number on both sides. Hopefully the same number. After that, do whatever you want to bring it up to D400.

Ummmmm after taking it up the ass on multiple occasions today I don't know if thats a good idea.

So how did those all-singing-all-dancing next-gen dedicated servers work out for everyone? Did they make it all a seamless experience?

Spa was near perfect for me. Le Mans OTOH went to shit during the second half of the circuit every lap with the last two feeling the game had dropped to 30FPS.

Everything went smooth as butter on my end. Funnily enough, it's the local machine's loading that needs work. Menus and whatnot.

Both races were perfect for me. Like Soundscream said no bouncing/floating/sinking cars like if Forza 4. Pretty happy with it considering we had european and north american players.

Sucks that I had to leave after 1 race. Stupid party system messed it up at the beginning.

Dat next gen.

My hope is that with a dozen cars that everyone will have to pit to repair damage at some point in the race since Prague is so tight and walled. Maybe 30 laps? Maybe fill out the grid with Drivatars? My aim is to have a race with people on a bunch of different laps with a bunch of passing between different players.

Might be worth doing with damage off first and see how it goes, but I miss pit strategy.

Yes, though Microsoft certainly did their best to produce odd and perplexing UI choices on the XBox One.

195mph before the first chicane ;) I looked at the leaderboards for the track and the leaderboard car/tune seems to be the Merc SL300— presumably it's the slowest car you can dump a twin turbo V12 in.

I've never had a gaming PC, so that's what I was looking for. But at the same time I wouldn't be doing the bulk of my gaming on it, it would mainly be for racing sims.

But I have like $200 in Amazon credit so I could get the wheel for basically $200 which would ease the pain of moving on from my fanatec gear.

Do you want a big cheesy grin while you play?

Get a wheel.

Over on FM.NET MrBasherman (basherboards.com) said he's making a converter board..

I knocked one together using a STM32F407 Discovery Board (http://uk.farnell.com/stmicroelectronics/stm32f4discovery/stm32f407-usb-otg-discovery-kit/dp/2009276)..

The TX + CSPs are a really good combo!

Care to dumb that down for me.

Thanks for the responses everyone - seems like the dedis are improving the online experience quite considerably. Flying/warping/teleporting cars were a big PITA in previous versions, so it's good to hear they are now last-gen problem.

yes, not only i saw no flying/digging cars, but also the collision detection was very precise. rubbing and bumping are clearly differenciated and racing online can be pretty playable even up close when drivers behave.

maybe we can do test races and even try the modes diatribe suggested, before our next "official" race.
now that we figured how the party invite thing is working, setup time should be minimal..

Saw one in a hopper last night, the car stayed transparent the whole time so it wasn't a hazard.

Frustrating when people don't take the game seriously, had some really good races after passing the arseholes.

I'm going to miss my club sport pedals

:(

I do still, right now I miss a shifter more but simply placing a strip of rubber or foam behind the brake and changing the deadzone accordingly makes the whole experience far better, haven't locked up the brakes in days. The more I play Forza 5 on a wheel the wider the gulf between it and 4 becomes.

edit: Snubbers, do you know if anybody is working on Fanatec shifter compatibility? (the old Porsche ones) both they and the Thrustmaster use a PS2 socket.

Lets get this up now. Week two. I'm not sure exactly what the restrictions will be, but I'm sure it will be very close to what Crude came up with - C500 Clio-V6 spec races. Any suggestions on tracks/# of laps? Just want this up now so people know we'll be racing again. Details will be hammered out later this week, probably by tomorrow. Current standings:

From RVM post on FM.net

" Oh, but before we get to racing news, you may be wondering about January DLC. Fear not, it will be available tomorrow and stories purporting its awesomeness will be forthcoming shortly from highly respected video game websites as well as FM.net. So hang tight, it’s coming. "

I should be free next Sunday. Same time as yesterday I take it?

Actually, hold up. First Crude picks '60s GTs, and now Clio V6s, all while most conveniently leading the points standings. I, for one, find the implications deeply unsettling and call for an investigation.

As for tracks, I'm a fan of Catalunya National for C-class and below. It's a shorter circuit, but with enough corners to make things interesting.

most probably he has secretly stuffed another v12 into his clio and now plays the indifferent :D

Haha, no no, spec race. Everyone has (mostly the same) car. I didn't even look at engine swaps for it. The idea of a comparatively large V6 in place of the back seats just makes me feel tingly on its own.

:) That's what happens when I try to reply using my phone!

There is a guy who makes interface/converter boards for connecting various pedals/wheels/shifters to each other.. www.basherboards.com , he's been posting on FM.NET after all the info regarding how the TX pedals and Clubsport Pedals work was disclosed, saying that he's getting a converter board made that allows the CSPs to connect to the Thrustmaster TX Wheel..

Since the info was already disclosed by others in the thread, I used one of my development boards (It has a Cortex M4 microcontroller on it) that is cheap and has enough hardware to allow it to talk to the CSPs to get the pedal values digitally, and 2 DACS to drive the analogue voltages the wheel expects (albeit it only has 2 of those, so I couldn't do the clutch, which is fine as I don't use it) without any further components, just wired to the clubsport pedals/TX Wheel, and a little bit of software..

The clubsport pedals on the TX Wheel is a great combination, and I'd say it's a step up from the CSR Wheel/CSP setup I had before!

Ok I just saw that board in your original post and felt like I was at the end of 2001.

Will have to wait till a clutch solution is developed since I use it.

I thought the DLC was tracks for some reason.

I absolutely love the 575 but looks like another pack I'll skip. I wouldn't mind trying the R500 but I'm scared it will handle like the Xbox and Atom :(

What's wrong with them?

If you are using a wheel you can feel the increase in resistance as you accelerate out of a turn, just balance that and begin to floor it at the car straightens up.

Or use TCS.

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
So nobody else was expecting tracks in January?

I have been misinformed then.

didnt you hear? tracks take upwards of 2 years to create. all the "missing" tracks will show up in fm6 in 2015.
