It's still a damn shame, but clearly Hillary had to sign on since Bernie did, or risk FOX getting uninterrupted "Slander Hillary" time with Bernie, and being perceived as not fighting as hard for the vote leading into Tuesday.

Bernie led them both into a trap.

Ah. I see.

Bernie put a gun to her head and forced her to sign up. Despite the fact that she could have very easily ignored this whole thing as the primary race was basically over.

Great points.

Which sentiments exactly? If it's those saying this was a dumb idea, I can't say I agree with you. It was a dumb idea. It's like a deer signing up to appear at a hunter convention.

We are going to witness the first pre-planned televised assassination (where everyone lives).

This is such an exaggeration. He will be FINE. It's a risk, but he's not an idiot; he knows where he's going.

revolting? lol okay

and if something like that could keep you from voting for a candidate, perhaps you should rethink how much you actually give a fuck about politics/politicians or what they represent

No, I'm not voting for Hillary.

He's been on Fox several times before. Always entertaining when he addresses right winger questions and points out the hypocricy of Republican talking points. For many areas in central and rural America all they have on Dish Network is Fox News so its a good place to get messages out.

Why not invite Trump? They could have The Rock as the moderator and put it on PPV.

Make it a deathmatch and I'll vote for the one who survives.

What the...? She could've ignored it but didn't.

Guess why.

No.. it's going to be exactly as bad as I think. It's going to be a right wing media equivalent of a hit job.

Well, for what it's worth, I think he'll encounter a tough crowd and a skeptical audience, but they'll be able to create some kind of dialogue. It might not be the best or the fairest setting, but I don't think it'll be "rigged" or anything like that.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens next week.

This could be either good or bad. All depends on how Clinton and Sanders handle the questions they are bound to get.

Will be good practice for Clinton because come the General Election debates, she will not be able to avoid getting questioned by die-hard Conservatives.

If Megan Kelly is hosting this, I suggest both candidates call in sick.

Otherwise, bring it on!

Yup. This thread is hilarious now and typical for an election year.

I blame Bernie's dumb advisers like Tad Devine. These career loser consultants who helped lead Gore and Kerry to losses in the general.
Once Bernie accepted, I can't blame Hillary for following suit.
Just dumb all-around. Anything that helps legitimize Fox News is a bad look for Dems.

This thread is all levels of Shyamalan twisted!!!

Bernie continues to pull Hillary along behind him while molding her into a better candidate (or at least making her pretend to be a better candidate).

Voted most trusted news network overall, has the highest ratings and most notably is the most favorable network among the independents. Good news for the candidates imo.

And despite their right wing leanings, it'll still be a better debate than the disgrace MSNBC had earlier in the year with the Republicans.

MSNBC hasn't hosted a Republican debate this cycle.

I'd give my right arm to watch Rachel Maddow grill the GOP, though.

Fox was not voted "most trusted". There's a strong difference between asking "Which network do you trust most" to a group vs. "How much do you trust network X". At best, 30% of survey respondents picked them as their most trusted. The Quinnipac poll used to tout that went out of their way to clarify though. i.e. "But when network news is examined on a case-by-case basis, FOX drops in the ratings."

Local news channels did best, which is kinda inspiring to see.

Hilldawg: "Hello, it's great to be here."

Fox: "As a liar who lies and is corrupt, just how corrupt and dishonest are you?"

Hilldawg: "Great question. I've dealt with a lot of partisan attacks throughout my career in public office. Tonight I'd like to focus on the real issues that affect the lives of the American people."

Fox: "Butcher-of-Benghazi-says-what?"

Hilldawg: "Pardon?"

Fox: "Enjoy prison."

*pause for applause and airhorns*

Bernie: "Good evening, it's a pleasure to be here with you tonight."

Fox: "Senator Sanders, as a socialist—"

Bernie: "Democratic socialist."

Fox: "As a godless communist, will your economic plan force job creators and their families to face the firing squad before or after the state has sold their organs to illegal immigrants?"

Bernie: "Well, that's not entirely accurate. My administration will address the outrageous disparity between the top 1% and your average working class—"

Fox: "If we could get back to—"

Bernie: *furiously wagging his finger* "Excuse me! I need to clarify—"

*a foghorn blares behind Bernie*

Fox: "Comrade Sanders, tell us more about the brainwashing centers that will replace all public schools within the first year of your presidency."

*the room is plunged into darkness and a red spotlight centers on Bernie's podium*

You should be doing political skits of all the candidates. These are great!!

This will be a good test for dems in general. They have to show they can shake and reframe right wing questions.

Bernie hasn't been great at this so far. Good to see this now rather than in the general

On the agendas at the forefront of this election? That won't be hard.

What's basically insane to me is people saying "Bernie is good for Hillary because he's dragging her further left, but I'll still vote Hillary." I mean, that should raise red flags right there about who is the actual candidate they should be voting for. Someone who will err more left just to win, and then will do business as usual during her tenure, or the person who has the desirable principles in the first place and is likelier (if not likely) to stick to those principles as much as possible during his tenure?

There are 3 counter arguments to voting for him as far as I can see:

1. Will lose the general (which is even more baselessly speculative than the opposite argument which at least has polls backing it up)
2. Has less experience/better foreign policy experience (Bernie will surround himself with good non-warhawkish foreign policy advisors, I'm quite sure... PS: OBAMA!)
3. He will get nothing passed (there's no reason to think he won't compromise just as Hillary will -- but at least he will try to rally support behind progressive policies with help from his mandate, whereas Clinton will most likely not actively rally behind progressive ideals... and will begin talks from the centrist perspective at the very best)
4. Will raise taxes more than Hillary (well, yeah, if he can get them passed, which would be great, otherwise, ??)
5. He's not a woman who will break that glass ceiling (...)

Honestly not sure why people think Bernie is simply good as a bellwether for Hillary...

Rather, if anything Hillary is a bellwether for how good Bernie is.

Edit: I think there's another more correct word for bellwether there but it escapes me

Can you name an issue for me that Benie has pulled Hillary left on? By that I mean, she didn't believe in X policy, but now does because of Bernie's influence?

This is an election. Policies are important in the end, but what you say or don't say could win or cost you said election.

It is not even disputable that Bernie has shifted the overall tone of the conversation leftward, and for that alone, he's made Hillary a better candidate.

Hillary agreeing to the debate makes it fine in my book. I had an issue with Bernie going alone and trashing Hills, with no one to defend her.

The only problem with that is that this is not a debate, it's a town hall meeting. Hillary won't be able to defend herself against any questions that are asked of Bernie. Though at least she'll be able to share the spotlight and make a case for herself to the FOX audience.

Sanders: Healthcare is a basic right.

Fox Host: Where does that right come from in your mind?

It's exceedingly simple.

|Bernie ---------------- Personal Position ---- Clinton ---------------}

If after it's all said and done:

|Bernie ---------------- Personal Position - Clinton ------------------}

You don't have to vote for the other guy to be happy that a candidate's position has changed.
