I honestly can't tell right now if some people are just being ignorant or joking.
a large chunk is ignorance, yes.

So they pretty much confirm the OS memory reserve, but say it should be plenty enough?
Cool, Wii u version incoming then?I agree that more ram is good. I dont however think that it will determine whether or not great games are made.
We should all just switch to OYUA!Just caught up.
Maaaan this is bad news for PlayStation. So I guess the Xbox One is more powerful now right?
Oh snap! I bet that's why Titanfall isnt on it. They were waiting to see if the specs were finalized and 1080p.
Say good bye to multiplats
New and improved one for this thread. (courtesy of Xbudz)
Wow.Check out this tweet and recent ones from the Octodad dev.

Do more catching up. They're looking to be about equal.

I don't want a choppy OS in like the ps3 has. 4.5ddr5 for games is still plenty

um, no they're not.

Absolute fail by Sony.
Quoted for emphasis.
Wow, really? Things like AI I could see the extra CUs making a difference, but bandwidth was like the least candidate I expected to affect it XDThere's a lot more than this, but one of the things I'm being told is that the RAM in the PS4 makes a huge difference in computations for example. Can range from anything like permutations of AI behavior (open world games).
The difference between the types and speed of RAM in both machines will really only truly come to light in exclusive titles, unsurprisingly. Unsure about others, but at this particular (incredibly large) studio, the games are being developed to Xbox One specs, then ported over as required.
PS4 is still vastly superior, the games and digital foundry comparisons will do the talking.
so basically the thread is in the same place it was when it started? Lots of stress and excitement about nothing?
Not seeing an issue with the RAM allocations. It's sensible and logical.
Ps4 has the same 1080p Shaders? Doesn't Titanfall require at least that much memory to make those shaders fit?
If it comes to Sony it will provably be sacrificed to only 60fps at 720p. That's ok, but I'll stick with the One imo
I mean in terms of RAM allocation. Gotta cover all the bases in this thread to be understood.
2 cores out of 8 are used for the OS.
2 GB out of 8 should be used for the OS.
Ratios should be the same, I say. The same! It's just more elegant that way
Which are exactly the people who are most likely to get your system on launch; which are exactly the people who parroted the '8 GB GDDR5' and the presumably 7GB for devs as a swaying reason to get the PS4.
Sony was happy to let that go on and not correct or divulge any further details about the allocation because it suited their image as being the gamer's choice and all that. And their silence on that front is also why now this news is met strongly by people. It would have been much less of a 'big deal' if Sony detailed the allocation X weeks after the console announcement.
1920 * 1080 = 2073600 number of pixels
2073600 * 24 = 49766400 24-bit color (16.7M colors)
49766400 * 60 = 2985984000 60 frames per second
2985984000 / 8 = 373248000 convert to bytes/sec
373248000 / 1024 = 364500 convert to KB/sec
364500 / 1024 = 355.957 convert to MB/sec
Wow, really? Things like AI I could see the extra CUs making a difference, but bandwidth was like the least candidate I expected to affect it XD
And that's for final devkits? And relatively mature tools?
Thanks for the info!
Would you say developers are happy about the ram on both systems?
That's about as close to confirming the rumor as you're going to get without outright saying it.
Pretty much confirmed. Lol at the dev saying 5gb is enough, really? Maybe for indie games yeah.Check out this tweet and recent ones from the Octodad dev.

I really really want to hear how you came to that conclusion

Not when DF is skewed towards MS. They will make up shit reasons to say that MS wins. /s
So I don't think a lot of that ram is used for the 15 min share. It must be constantly writing to the harddrive. For 1080p video I found this little bit of info
so basically it would be recording 356MB every second. Way to big to store in ram. This information could be wrong though.
So PS4 = Gouku, XBone = Vegeta?
