THIS IS NOT THE POST I AM GOING TO UPDATE, BOOKMARK THE FOLLOWING LINK
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=28130394&postcount=387

Welcome, Gentlemen. (I assume)

1. First off: Rules

Game Mode: generic Dark Extermination, with no settings changed
Since its the most common mode being played, and the one easily practiced.

Tournament mode: Elimination, Best 2 out of 3
1 game may be luck (especially with positioned soldiers) so I'd say to win 2 out of three is fair.

Upcoming games: There wont be a new drawing for the next matches.
The Winner of Match 1 and Match 2 will have the next match (and so on). I used http://www.random.org/lists/ to randomize our names. If you know your opponent for the next match already while others still need to play their previous match, you can go ahead and challenge him if he is fine with it.

Server: UK2
For simplicities sake so that we find each other easily. However, you are free to change the server if one of you cant log into the server you initially wanted to play on.

Time: You got 3 days to respond to a match with your first move and 1 day for each move.
Naturally, if it takes too long, the one not corresponding will get eliminated. It also helps to talk to the other one when you want to start a match (read your PM's!), so that you dont necessarily need 8 days to play a game that takes 20-30 minutes of concentration.

Youtube: Upload your tournament matches! Easy rule of thumb: The one who wins uploads, except he asks the other one to do so.
This is perfect for spectators and we'd love to see you all play. Create yourself a youtube account if you dont have one or take the one I created for this game. Ask me via pm if you want the login.

This table: Bookmark the post below!
I will update ONLY the post linked below and all the otheres (including this one) I might post in the thread are only refreshers to remind people that the tournament has started, which wont get updated after posting.

Trouble Shooting:

In case of 3 draws, make new matches until someone wins.

If you cannot continue a match due to technical (server?) reasons, talk to your match partner and decide whether you want to wait or simply make a new match (which by rule nullifies the old one, even if it works a day later)

A big sloppy kiss to Brobzoid for generously hooking me up with the game.

Hopefully timezones won't make this too much of a hassle. My opponent is in USA while I'm in Norway so the time difference is 7-9 hours.

Thats what the 1 turn per day rule is there for. Since you dont need to be online at the same time, a match should take 5 days the most in a worst case scenario (because 8 turns are the limit and you can make 2 turns each day if your partner had his turn before you)

And from experience, if you talk about this via pm, you'll mostly find a time (especially on a sunday). For one person its 10 pm, for the other 1 pm, for example. You'll find a way :)

Nope, sorry. 16 is too perfect a number right now.

It wont be the last though :)

I added everyone from the tournament to my friend list and created a dark extermination game against snoopeasystreet. The servers seem to be working fine now.

New Blog Post from Mode7:

Guys, once again a huge thank you for bearing with us. I’m slowly bringing the server situation somewhat under control, and I think more and more people are being able to play with reasonable response times.

Here are the salient points:

- I have sharded our servers – when you log in please note which server you are joining, and join that server again. Matches and statistics are kept per server

- Some users, mainly mac users, may lose match data from yesterday, but not after now. If you have lost data we will get it back in time.

- We will re-sync all data when everything’s calmed down, but for now please choose a server and stick with it

- Due to this our friend system has had to change – more info is being mailed out. Basically, send your friend your own cd key and the download location from: http://www.mode7games.com/support/getURL.php

I think that everyone *should* be able to play tonight with reasonable response times.

Thank you to everyone for sticking with us during this busy time!

The end is a bit unspectacular though.
The blunder I made scared me out a bit too much, since I didn't know where your MG was, thus I went with conservative tactics.

But the number of close calls is pretty incredible (your SG missing my RL thanks to a column, my rocket missing your SG by inches) and I'm amazed by the fact you always stood outside my FoV by changing direction just a second before entering it.

Nothing wrong in being conservative. The aim is to win ;p
But yeah, I hope I'll put up a more challenging next match for you ;)

I found this particular site, might be useful for helping with the tourney brackets.

I guess I'll write it into the Code I used in the tourney post. Easier to have everything in 1 post.

Can anyone explain hostage for me? I played it twice as defender and both times I've done the same mistake which is that I misunderstood where the enemy team starts. Which side do they start on? I see 3 green zones to each side of the map, and I assumed they'd start on the side which wasn't green, but no, they spawned in the west green zone in my case.

Sometimes one seems to be a SLIGHTLY different colour - but when I play with a friend we usually just say where we spawned out of charity.

At your leisure, Toma. You're doing a great job! Oh, the bragging rights that await the winner at the pinnacle!

And maybe a steam gift if I'm feeling well generous...

You're probably well aware, but if not, you can choose starting locations for your squad members during the first phase - both attacker and defender. It's not locked to the starting location.

Game on, people!

Yeah, I know that, I moved my units around. I just can't figure out which starting zone my opponent got. The help screen and tutorial video didn't really explain that either.

Try clicking on the game in the lower left before you chose the server.

Oi! Does the tutorial really cover everything? It was rather short and I still feel like I just know the basics. Is there an advanced tutorial?

I probably should too. Is the 2-for-1 thing a limited time offer, or just the 20% off?

Just the 20% off. The Dev's want you to buy it with someone else because they know its more fun if you play against someone you know.

You got to know the basics. You need to test tactics yourself (which I actually liked)
One hint though: Rocket launchers cant hit soldiers directly.

So sad I missed the tourney. :( I was planning on buying this tonight but I'll defintely take part in the next tourney and destroy you all.

I am quite sure I'll be terrible at this game.

God. This game is so good. Loved my match against you Toma. It was ever so tense.

Played another game right afterwards and dominated. Felt great.

roughly, how long do players take to make their decisions each turn ? (multiplayer)

Depends if they are online or not, but if both players are THERE in one game, maybe 2-10 minutes depending on how many soldiers you have and how perfectly you want to plan it out.

Its not unusual to finish a match in 15-20 minutes, I'd say. Perfect in short bursts if you have someone willing to concentrate on your match. People tend to play more than one game at a time, which drags it out a bit, but its not too bothersome for now.

Corky said:

Takes me about 5-10 minutes a turn. The best thing is that you can play multiple matches at a time so there's never a lot of down time.

Back up again. At least for me. These hickups are normal.

The game isn't even my list :S

Maybe its a bit bugged to invite someone who is not online. Shoot him a PM and tell him how long you are still online and how to contact you (Steam, GAF PM)

Try being both online when starting the game.

Or try inviting him, and see whether that works. Let him know that the first invitation was bugged for you.

...it's probably me. I sent the challenge on UK1. I had no idea how it would work with the current sharded servers, and if you can't find it that's no problem.

Why are there no straight ansers on the website or forum about making the guest account? Got the email with the username and pass, but can't login in-game. Can't find an answer either. Do I still need to register a new account, using thge same keycode as the person who gave me the second copy?

:D :D :D

I just had the EXACT same map with the EXACT same unit setup:

We were just playing our second tournament match now... and you wont believe how impossible the odds stood for this turn of events. Probably the most crazy game I've played so far (also stupidly crazy mistakes on my part)

Anyway, 2nd match, eighth final: TomaLexi - OldGamer

Finally a straight answer for all us secondary people out there:

We have recently had to introduce a workaround for the free key system - you will now have to register using your *friend's* registration key once you have downloaded from the links below - please ask them to send it to you. If you have been sent account details, you will need to enter them again. Sorry for the inconvenience.
http://www.frozensynapse.com/fsFriend.html

Gotta share that keycode. A hassle, imo. What's the point of them making/knowing your username/password if you just have to register a new account anyway?

Edit:
And I'm in!
