Brehs which rapper do you feel has the best discography in hip hop? I have to go with Ghostface. I can't think of anyone with four albums that match or surpass Iron Man, Supreme Clientele, OG Bulletproof Wallets, and Fishscale. And even his solid to good albums like the criminally overlooked Big Doe Rehab and Apollo Kids are better than other rapper's solid to good albums. And if we were to look at average albums, Pretty Toney is better than most average albums. I'm not going to defend the R&B album tho, although it wasn't as bad as I assumed it would be.

Second on my list would be MF DOOM, who comes close to matching Ghost with Operation Doomsday, Vaudeville Villain, Mm..Food, and Madvillainy.

Others:

-KRS One (Return of The Boom Bap, Self Titled album, I Got Next)
-Redman (first four albums)
-Rakim
-Scarface

YESUUS.

De La as a group have 4 albums that edge out those Ghostface 4 imo (Buhloone Mindstate, 3 Feet, De La Soul Is Dead & Stakes Is High), and I think if you include the Organized Konfusion albums into Pharoahe Monch's discography, he could squeeze into that "Others" section. But if we're just talking individual rappers, then Ghostface tops it, yeah.

no theme i guess

You could add the NWA and Doggystyle stuff technically just off the production.

And you'd also have to add hot garbage like The Firm and Kingdom Come and all that

Best of Both Worlds is average????????? lmaooooooo

also esch you forgot to put Kingdom Come in the list of bad albums. move BP2 to the list of bad albums as well, even Jay knew that shit was trash.

and why'd you put WTT in jay's discog but not ye's?

We'll check back with you when he's at 13(?) albums.

I don't get why you like 2 and not 1. One is the better album by a small cut. 2 is obviously more influential/relevant i guess.

cause Vol 2 is a straight banger. from front to back it's his most solid album.

Best of Both Worlds just has no chemistry breh. Like it's cool that it happened, but I don't care about it.

I did put Kingdom Come in there. BP2 could be bad, but it has a couple of my favorite songs of his on there (Bounce, Blueprint 2, Hovi Baby, etc etc)

I forgot to put WTT in Ye's. but yea, average album.

Nah... lol. That shit goes hard for sure but there are songs with way better concepts and lyrics on 1, and the NuNYC production of some of those Vol 2 songs didnt age that well.

no love for:
KMD_Black_Bastards_400.jpg

and
bd051.jpg

?

they're up there with his best IMO. DOOM just goes in hard on Black Bastards and it's probably my favourite era of his emcee wise, with that raw aggressiveness befored he mellowed out. and his production on Take Me To Your Leader is pure butter.

edit: wait, did anyone mention The Roots yet? they have a super solid discography too

oh yeah i'd definitely put KRS up there too. I feel like I used to think G Rap was the best rapper from that era (and he is, technically) but when it comes down to it KRS has a better discography.

Cigarette Boats is smooth as fuck.
Need more Fraud this year.

Also Hov definitely doesn't have the best discog.
Kanye's is good.
2Pac's is pretty good (up to and including 7 Day Theory)
Notorious B.I.G., Big Pun, and Big L are cheating I guess due to their limited catalogues.

What's the criteria? 5 albums? 10? I get the argument saying Hov has so many and lots are good, but if you guys can say Jay-Z and cancel the bad ones then I can say Eminem nahmean.

I just do it by how i feel. I might weigh various albums more. I might give some of them more pass if they have high points. Criteria is , just say what you feel. At the end of the day Jay just has a straight up higher distribution of good-great-classic albums despite how prolific he is. I can always you know, not listen to albums that I think are bad (Jay-Z, Nas). But I can't create more good albums for an artist, or pretend that they're better than they are (Kanye, 2pac).

Ain't no one gonna show love for facemob?

My personal top 3 discography is

Sean P (solo, heltah and boot camp shit). Consistently dope for 30 years

Evidence ( solo and dilated is very strong)

Masts Ace

Jay is in the discussion because he has a good raw number of good albums, and even his worst albums have memorable songs. Also, depending on what you count for discography, Jay's features are some of the best.
