Haha, great suggestions already.

Damn you! Now I have to play the game again! Did you do it single player or co-op? and does deaths account for time?
Single player, and I feel that deaths do account for time. Time to test that.

Edit: Actually, seems that deaths don't count for time, made horrible mistakes and died twice on the spinning flame machine of destruction and got like 5:14. Annoying that you can't skip cutscenes immediately.

Contest #3 entry for now, I may go back and try to beat the new top score later. It was a fun game! Only my second or third time playing(since I played the demo on consoles once before) and I'll probably pick it up next time it's on sale.

As for Contest #4, I'll try to think of something!

Make a picture of what Gabe did on his summer vacation, using only images from Google Image Search, crudely cut and pasted together.

Oh god, haha. You guys have some seriously great ideas.

Since I am shameless:
Contest #4 - Think'a'Contest!

Unlikely video game crossovers and their after effects.

They can either be drawn or written as short stories, giving people the option to go with two completely different directions on how the contest could be entered. This could lead to two different prizes for the contest as it would be unfair to throw together drawn entires with short stories.

Alright, guys. Finally working on getting the gifts to the winners of todays contests. I apologize for the delay, but working while taking care of this thread is a bit.. tricky, time management wise.

Since I am shameless:
Contest #4 - Think'a'Contest!

We are a super awesome community, so I am going to get you to help me out for prizes!

Reading only regular contest ideas would be a bit boring, feel free to recommend ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNYthing. Make stupid, fun, ridiculous or even sincere contest ideas. Everyone can submit more than one idea, but please post them in the same post. If you want to add something, you may state in the thread that you added it with a new reply, BUT remember to add it to your contest post!

Few rules:
- Only the first dedicated contest #4 post, however many suggestions it contains, will be voted on! (so that we dont have to click through 20 posts per user to read suggestions)
- Either directly related to a game that could still be on sale (Highscore..) or a real life activity somehow related to gaming (make a picture of yourself with a gaming hat made from paper.., record yourself humming a videogame melody...)
- Feel free to run wild with ideas, however crazy they are. We dont actually need to do them. If I get a few good ideas out of this, that would be great, but we'll see.
- Feel free to post huge lists of topics you might want to see in further creative (MS paint drawings for example) contests too. "Unbelievable videogame love affairs", "Greatest videogame secret no one saw coming.." etc.

What we vote on:
Anything, whether you personally liked the ideas, or whether its a stupidly big amount of ideas. We'll rate which single post we liked best. Highest voted post gets 1 prize from the pile, another prize for a random entry.

Ends the same time as always. When the new daily deals go up.

My idea is to create a very short video using Source Filmmaker. It does not have to be a completely new video, it can be a modified version of Meet the Heavy or Meet the Engineer. You can chose to make it about the current sale or a video game(s) of your choosing. Basically, not very restrictive so as to see what people can come up with. Members can vote for their favourite videos.

A short sample of what the program can do posted under 'News' for the program in Steam. There are many other examples available. Not really related to my contest idea, but I still feel like linking it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YrrAroK6bI

P.S. the program is a huge download, but I already have it and think it is worth a download to try out (free!!). It may be part of the reason why I'm over my monthly allotment :)

My idea would be to simply take a Photo. It must be Gaming related and Steam related.

You can take a photo of yourself, your collection, your wishlist, your Backlog, you gaming systems, some geek, nerd stuff, anything, as long as you keep the theme.

People would vote the same way they voted in the MS Paint Contest.

Let me guess, Australia?

Nope, Canada. I have 60 GB each billing cycle with Rogers. I'm still not entirely sure how I managed to go over the limit already though. I'd like to switch to a better service, but I've been using my e-mail account for a long time and it would be very annoying to change :(

You cant keep it? If I remember correctly, we (not canada) could pay a one time fee to our provider to keep the mail address if we wanted. I'd probably do that, instead of putting up with a shitty provider. Sorry to hear, though. 60GB is not much :(

Contest #4

This is GAF so the contest is to make an animated GIF, using an 80s cartoon, that carries the message of:

* Wait for the daily deals.
or
* No we don't know if game X will be cheaper.

#5 This house wasn't for me, but I made it for my friend silence of the lambs style.

He mostly hung out in his house during the day, and then hung out again at night where goblins would come and try to eat him

I don't think that is an option here :( I wish it was an option though. There is a provider that gives 300GB or unlimited (different speeds) for around the same price as our current Rogers service. They basically use the same equipment, but one company rips you off less.

I just checked and we are already 5 GB over at $2/GB; $10 more this month with many more days to go. I think there is a limit at $50 though. The last time this happened we just went download crazy; we went way, way over the monthly limit. We may do the same this time.

Oh, well, I may just slowly transition to a new Internet based e-mail until I'm barely using my current address. Then, I'll switch. I wonder what will happen to my NeoGAF account though since I don't think we are allowed Internet based accounts like g-mail.

Your username means "fast" in german. Sorry, I figured I might not have been the first to tell you ;)

So, Lara Croft best time gets a win, + one random?

Yep, probably keeping that for every contest where applicable so people who want to do highscoring can do so, while the others can still win without. Still gets all the people to play/try the game.

I did the same thing. It's fine, because after the initial emails to sign up, GAF never emails you anyway.

What annoys me is that you can't use the subscribe function if you dont have access to the email account anymore. Hasnt bothered me as much before, but when you create small thread that you need to check once in a while for updates... blergh, annoying.

I mentioned it already, but you guys have fun suggestions. This could actually work in a "Make a nongamer beat level 1"- kind of way. Could be your gf or anyone. Not a task for a single day though, fun thought nonetheless.

The grandma part is a cherry on top, though. Heh.

Edit: goes to check what Lvl1 actually was.

All good suggestions!

Your Crappy Game suggestion:

Take the worst game in your steam library, and sell it to us. Either through fake ad or fake review describing the horribleness of the game, in a positive way.

Contest #4 - Think'a'Contest! entry:

  • Make me (mannerbot) an avatar. I will wear the community-voted avatar for at least the duration of the summer sale, or longer if the people want.

(more and hopefully better ideas to come later)

Just in case, have you checked the results of the first contest day? I made you and the other guys who had none, avatars from the badge.
IQR9c.png
V0EVS.png

Those two are still up for grabs (Since you earned it)

Any idea when we'll actually vote on these ideas? there are a lot of good ones being posted.

I sort of plan to have the voting parts every day in the hour right after the Steam sale started. Soooo, 7pm to 8pm GMT+2 for me.

Tomb raider entry:

Had to play on PS3. Don't think I can do better then that at all, certainly not 4:29!

Edit. Oh ok, you can use upgrades from later in the game. Meh. I'll apply for the 'new player' category.

Contest #3: Best time in Lara Croft: Guardian of Light Level 1.

Since the first level is the only one available in the demo, we'll take that one for the contest. Also: note that you dont need to have the best highscore, just the best time! The best time wins, then randomly another winner from all the other entries.

Game on.... or so I thought, till I saw that 4:20 speed. My best was 5:12 from before; but I'll give it a crack and see if I can do better in the next few hours...

Edit: 4:15 now? Bugger... well, I'll give it a crack.

Cheap and great game! Buy it if you like the demo!

Yes. Awesome game. I got it on PS3 after recommendations from NeoGAF; and loved it. Even if you think LC is kind of crap (like me), don't let that put you off!
