Glad to see Shae will finally get her comeuppance; she picked up exactly where she left off being an insufferable moron. Any blowback on Tyrion will be unfortunate, but worth it.

no idead whats going on and who half of the people are

I don't think it's hard to follow if you watch with subtitles/CC on so you can track the names more easily.

Also the actor who plays Jaime lannister hasn't aged well at all. He used to to be quite good looking in the first series, now looks haggard and greying. Not sure if it's the haircut though.

That's a bizarre comment. He's supposed to look different because of all the bad things that happened to him. The actor didn't suddenly get old and ugly in the last three years.

hey gaff i got few questions for u, why did little finger betray ned stark? who is little finger off to marry at the end of season 3? why did those 2 kids come out of nowhere for bran and seem eager to show him his powers to control animals? also why did mance (that guy who is like a king outside the wall) leave the knights watch?

Really enjoyed this episode. Oberyn is probably my new favorite character despite only being in it for a shirt period.

He has been imprisoned, starved, tortured, hand cut off and lost the one thing that matters to him: fighting. I'd say making him look a bit old and haggard is the point. In fact the whole episode laid it on really thick that he is 40, crippled and no longer the knight in shining armour

Actually Nikolaj is still really, really, really ridiculously good looking:

But for the character of Jaime Lannister they had to make him look a little worn down by the sheer amount of shit that he's had to deal with.

Because Ned was a goody and stole the woman he loved? I suppose

Off to marry
Lysa Aryn, the sister of Cateyn who was in season one

The two kids are from House Reed which is very close to the Starks. I can't remember exactly why they came along, Jojen shared a dream with Bran or something?

ok thanks. also why did mance (that guy who is like a king outside the wall) leave the knights watch? and lysa is mental isnt she? she is the one who took tyrion prisoner right? why would she marry little finger knowing the part lannistors played in the killing of her sister

This is in the books, but it hasn't been answered in the show yet, to my knowledge.

Littlefinger isn't a Lannister. They knew each other in the past.

People of the Night's Watch get sent north of the wall regularly for patrol etc. Some find better (or "better") life there than as a part of something that is usually a punishment for rapers & killers & other shitty people. Maybe they fall for a woman or are otherwise tempted by the ways of the wildlings in comparison to the relatively shitty life on the wall. They are "free" people and the men serving on the wall are anything but free. Some decide to abandon the life on the wall because of that as well.

Stayed up for this last night.

Good lord the script is good.

And Arya and The Hound are seriously the best screen duo since Principal Skinner and Superintendant Chalmers in that "steamed hams" sketch.
This made me lol...

I can't decide whether I like the Arya/Hound duo or the Jaimie/Brienne duo more! The banter and dynamics are just so good for both...

Ned was my guy through and through, but Tywin melting down his sword, commemorating the Lion's decimation of the Wolf by symbolically doing it all over again was awesome. Tywin is the best.

wolf-burn.gif

Who gets the second sword? Or does Tywin keep it? A constant reminder of his victory and Lannister superiority.

Can't remember the name of the city Daeny & Co. are going to, but damn those 'dead children' road markers are fucking ominous.

I imagine whoever is responsible for that little bit of macabre artistry has a world of hurt coming their way. If the mistreatment of slaves got the red-ass from Daeny, I can't even imagine the wrath that child-killing and visual mockery of their corpses will bring.

So who did we miss in S4-E1?

-Theon (his sister is en route to save him as of the end of S3)
-Bran (heading into the north with the siblings & Hodor)
-Littlefinger (can't even remember where he's off to...) ----- EDIT: Ahhhh, I just saw Chuck Norris' post above. Thanks! :D
-Stanis (prepping for the upcoming war in the north with Davos & the red witch)
-Blackfish (will we ever even see him again? As Roose Bolton or Walt Frey said in the S3 finale, his family is decimated, so he's pretty much just an old man out on his own.)

Who am I missing?

As another poster said, I was hoping we'd see more fallout from the Robb/Caitlyn assassination, but I guess there's only so much they can do. It was interesting in the S3 finale when Bran is telling the story of the Rat Chef regarding the curse of the Gods by "killing an invited guest in your own home", then the direct transition to Frey.
Fuck that guy... and Bolton. I hope they get theirs.

One last thing:
I think the writing is on the wall for Shae.
It was a terrible idea for Tyrion to keep her around. Tywin will likely have her killed without a second thought and I don't even want to think what Joffrey would do to her. She's fucked.
Could be a massive turning point coming up for ole' Tyrion. Pretty worried, actually. :/
Now my mind goes back to either the finale or second-to-last ep of S3 when Varys tries to convince Shae to leave and start a new life (via a nice bag of diamonds). Varys is one of the most clear-headed characters in the story and you could tell he knew exactly what would happen to Shae if she stayed. Reminds me of the consequences of Ned not listening to his advise.

Seriously people just subscribe to this thread so you don't get in the other by mistake. I keep seeing some of you there and it hurts (damn empathy).

Best not to mention the books at all in this thread, as a rule. Book readers need to post in the other thread :)

We have a new Mod in the North, and and his justice is swift.

I think the way the guy dealt with the question is really how any book related questions and info should be dealt with in this thread, i.e. "books explain this but the show hasn't, so I'm not gonna tell you'.

It's painful being a book reader who hasn't finished all the books though...I get to hang out here, knowing more than most non-book readers but don't know enough to go into the book reader thread :p

The OP features a list of posters you can PM questions to, in order to keep book shit out of the thread. I'm on the list, so shoot me a PM whenever you're curious about details (I won't spoil any plot points, just offer understanding of events or lore).

There are two swords, yeah Jaime has one, so what does Tywin do with the second?

I could also see him giving it to Joffrey as a wedding gift.

I love this thread and keep clicking on it, but I'm so scared some drive by piece of shit is going to spoil something like the guy who spoiled the red wedding...

Fuck it's good to have GoT back.

That final shot man.....It's clear Westeros has become a lawless hell hole under Joffrey. While he skulks about getting statues of himself killing Wolves he never personally killed in the first place carved out and strewn all over Kings Landing, the rest of the place burns. Watching Arya get a bit of her own back was awesome. The Hound is a freak of nature.

Cersei snubbing Jaimee was a bit of a surprise. It's clear she has withdrawn so far into her own depression and cynicism, she is borderline sociopathic. The timing of people getting sick of Shae is convenient I feel, because I don't think she has much time left. Tyrion is gonna be as fucked up as Sansa is.

Oberon being bisexual was a surprise, but then again, this is GoT. I can't wait to see him deal some justice on the Lannisters. Watching Tywin melt down Ned's sword was tough to stomach.

This is entirely speculation on my part, but I have a feeling Arya and her Aunts personalities are gonna clash so hard, it'll appear on the Richter Scale. She will be bound for Davos to complete her training very quickly, I would've thought. Maybe even under Cyrio Forel, if he's still alive.

Very impressive first episode that is off to the familiar slow start, but impressive nonetheless. Bring on next Monday.

You mean like how Cersei and Geoffrey and Sansa have a crazy threesome? Sorry, spoilers.

Not spoilers
We will pursue mob justice against anyone who does this :p

oh sorry misread the question. yh tywin keeps one and gives the smaller one to jamie. i doubt tywin would give it away, joffrey probably couldnt handle it anyway

Figured I should let you all know, in the book reader's thread, we're going to start posting a "THIS IS THE BOOK READERS THREAD DON'T COME IN HERE" in the top post of every page, so look for that if you're unsure.

Just as an extra precaution.

Oh no I'm ok, I've read the first 2 books and am currently reading through the 3rd so I know my way around the characters and the lore. I was just saying that sometimes it's tough being in this thread because I know stuff that was in the first two books and can't say it and yet I can't go to the book readers thread because I don't want to spoil rest of book 3 and books 4 and 5.

Lol thank you. I just stumbled into the all spoilers thread again (subs are for suckers :p)

A question for the mods, I assume it's okay to post speculation or hopes/wishes if we haven't read the books? I feel like every speculation has a probability of being accurate, especially if it's about somebody dying, so I don't want to risk "spoiling" something by guessing correctly that everybody dies lol.

He's standing on a Wolf, not a boar.

Which makes it much worse imo.

Okay then, 1) I really want Jamie to end up with the giant lady, I forget her name, and 2) Jamie awkwardly referenced his being the "kingslayer" .... foreshadowing?? I'd rather have one of the ladies do it but that would be a good excuse for Jamie to run into exile with the giant lady :3 Edit: this is all assuming that Geoffrey dies at some point, maybe not this season, maybe he doesn't and he wins the game, but he's bound to bite it right? I mean the way he was like gazing at his mantle during strategy discussions, lol

Guys if you care that much a lot of the background stuff like Rhaegar/Lyanna is also available on the dvd extras narrated by the characters. You can even find them on youtube if you want.

The only temptation I have is to answer people's remarks/questions about trivial things (like how the two children with bran are introduced) that are better explained in the book, but since there is much paranoia about what is and what isn't spoiler I'd rather say nothing. What should happen is just have a list of trusted users that have read the books that will answer questions that people may have without spoiling.

Fuck I just caught up.

Phenomenal, fucking phenomenal. I was tearing up at that Hound/Arya final 10 minutes. That was a fantastic payoff and sets up the whole season. It's not all doom and gloom.

I only have two complaints:

-The new Daario is actually shit. No this isn't me judging 'cause it's a new guy. They've made no effort to make him look like the old guy and they're even writing his lines differently. It feels like a different character and that just doesn't sit right with me when this is a show that prides itself on consistency and continuity. It's even worse for me as I watched this episode immediately after episode 10 of Season 3. It's like they didn't even try.

I realise recasts happen sometimes, but they KNEW they would need OldDaario for Season 4 so WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T THEY LOCK THE GUY INTO A CONTRACT?!

-Secondly, Shae/Tyrion are going in circles and it's getting frustrating to watch. She is so fucking dumb it's unbelievable. He hasn't slept with Sansa and he continues to love Shae. I feel this isn't going to end well and I hope it doesn't too, Shae is an awful character.

Looking forward to seeing Bran soon. His story really picks up towards the end of Season 3, he's become one of my favourites.

Jesus, you're right. For some reason, I had tusks protruding from the mouth in my memory. Fuck I hope Joffrey dies soon, and painfully.

I reckon they did pretty well to explain the backstory in the episode when Oberyn told Tyrion the details.

I haven't read the books, but I am just curious....

...is HBO following the books closely? Or is it more like the walking dead where they are abandoning much of the storyline of the source material?

I am just looking for a quick yes or no answer. Thank you !!!

Oh I see you do have two volunteers already, if you have any questions (like clarifying, I won't spoil what hasn't happened, even if you ask me directly to) send me a PM as well, I'll answer questions.

This question doesn't have a yes or no answer.

Largely, they're following the books, but thanks to the 10 or so episode limit, they're taking necessary liberties with it.

Which leads me to one of my few critiques of HBO: How the fuck they haven't clued in to give GoT a 20 episode run is beyond me. They're probably the wealthiest pay t.v network in America and this is their crown jewel series and yet they still snub it with so few episodes.

People are crying out for not only more each season but a series more loyal to the books. GIVE IT TO THEM and they will come.

In regards to the major events, yes.

And I will volunteer to be a question answerer, if you'd all like. You can either send me a PM or I can answer it here.
