I know nothing about the books, but I get a feeling Danaerys will be OP as heck in the next season with her dragons and army.. Totally not looking forward to that part of the show as her character has gotten insufferable as of late.

Has this been addressed yet?:

Where did that second royal pardon come from?

And why was there a second one in the first place?

Or did Jorah just not open the first one and kept it lying around?

what's not to like

dude is the best at the game so far
Well, I thought that up until this episode actually. After killing Lysa days after being married, his entire plan consisted of sitting in a room with three Judges who all believed he had killed her, and talking himself out of it... somehow. When Sansa was brought into the room, the look on his face revealed he had no contingency, and no backup plan. He didn't expect her to come to the trial at all. It was sloppy. He's alive because Sansa decided to join the game, and he had no way of knowing her decision. Hell, we didn't know of her decision either. Just seems like an amateur mistake coming from the man who set the game in motion.

I believe it was sent by Tywin. He knows conflict with her is inevitable, and seems to be preparing for it by removing her inner circle.

I swear I like a character in this show and that character dies...that bloody moron

I have such a love/hate relationship with this show lol But I feel the villains win way too many times...for the shock value. At this point I'm shocked if they lose

I think I need to stop watching this show. I'm still legit shook by that scene. The villains just ride roughshod over everyone and it's depressing.

"NO ONE'S A VILLAIN IN THIS UNIVERSE LOLOLOL U JUST SALTY"

Oh wait, Oberyn had the purest and most just cause of anyone on the show.

My point is he would not have had a chance to grab Oberyn. If you look closely, you'll see that the scene is "faked". Oberyn falls beside the mountain, then there is a cut and Oberyn's neck lies right on top of the mountain's right hand. But that right hand was not there before the cut.

In any case, its all just too cliché for my taste.

Oberyn tried to get up but he was already being manhandled.

The Mountain can lift grown men up as though they were children.

The first thing Oberyn tries to do is get back up. He knows that lying on his back is certain death. The Mountain grabs him by the back of the neck.

It doesn't matter how awkward it is. The point of the scene is that The Mountain can manhandle anyone given the opportunity.

Once he had Oberyn at arm's length, the fight was over.

I take back my statement on how GoT fight choreographers didn't know how to do sword fight properly. This last episode delivers.

The issue with Oberyn wasn't his skill at all (I doubt Ser Barristan would be able to move like him). Drunk on (premature) victory, he wasn't mindful of his surrounding and paid the price dearly. The Mountain is still The Mountain, even when he's flat on his back.

It reminded me of those RPG boss fights, where they had only a hairline of HP left and my main character at half HP bar, I got cocky and didn't quaff a health potion immediately and instead just keep hacking away. Suddenly they crits me and I died. Every fucking time. :-\

Also, no Brienne/Pod this week? I see some interesting setup coming:

  • Brienne/Pod going up to The Eyrie, and through the mountain pass, they met with:
  • The Hound/Arya going back after they found out Lysa Arryn is dead. As both parties reaching for their swords, suddenly:
  • Littlefinger/Sansa appears. Arya immediately recognises Sansa! What would they do in this situation, I wonder?

Can't wait for next episode!

I thought the choreography was fine, but I think the fight was poorly shot and edited. There were too many pointless cuts. The gruesome end made up for the deficiencies though.

Fucking idiot. Beaming in his own glory and just gets straight fucked. He was waaaay more unreal at fighting than I thought he'd be, though. Score another for the Lannisters? Good grief.

Didn't the stamp have the King's hand sign (rather than the royal one)? Even if Robert's name is there, Varys and Tywin should have had no problem recreating the original. But you are right, Selmi and Danny should have caught such discrepancy.

BTW, today is Ser Davos actor birthday. Hurrah for the best onion master Westeros has ever had. The true king behind the king.

nooo i refuse ! i will always hang some hope on some fav characters! even if they gonna get killed :<

i think to follow the show with detachment would be not as fun/ immersive.... you know what i mean???

Definitely. But it's going to take a lot to become attached to new characters for reasons like last night. Outside of Arya, Dany, and I guess maybe Jon Snow, all of my faves are deplorable people or harness the power of resurrection, thus stand a decent chance of thriving in GRRM's world.

Ramsay, Littlefinger, and Cersei all got the thing they desired most while yet another hero died screaming.

Pro tip: Root for shittier people.

I think my favorite part of this episode was Sansa actually out manipulating the master himself. Finally, she does something that extends beyond the "silly little girl" face she has put on for four seasons now. Peter is a good influence...

He's always been boring to me, and he will absolutely, positively never die. People say "what, plot armor in GoT?" but it's true - certain characters have little to no chance of dying, Jon, Bran, and Daenerys first and foremost in my opinion. Incidentally my 3 least favorite characters.

These two are most definitely going to die. I'm sure about Daenerys now that she exiled whats his face. She's showing the same fatal flaw that Rob Stark did. Putting Honor and and 'What's right' before the game. Tywin said it himself, that you can still keep the people you dont trust around you if they serve a purpose. Something Rob didn't do and paid the price for and now Daenerys is doing the same.

I'm thinking Brans will be the classic die before saving the world type thing.

Right, so I'm sure they're not gonna be OK with this? lol

On the contrary, in the GoT universe this is probably a noble death. Oberyn volunteered and there was no foul play so I'm not sure there's any cause for retaliation.

Fake edit: unless of course you're referring to the Mountain's confession but I don't think that changes anything in the Martell's eyes.

Littlefinger is slipping up because he was thinking with his dick for a minute. Kissing Sansa, in Lysa's fucking castle, was a stupid mistake that caused that whole sequence of events to happen.

And now he's given Sansa the power.

Did the actress who plays Missandei get a breast reduction? They looked smaller this week than last season.

I thought it was deliberate. Baelish certainly needed to eliminate the crazy unpredictable Lysa. For Baelish, it's surely easier to predict Sansa than Lysa.

I'm forever shocked by that scene. I finished the books last year so I knew it was coming, but god damn man. I remember being shocked reading it, but SEEING it was fucking crazy. Just bummed me out so much since the actor for Oberyn played him so damn well. Man, I can't even go on.

For a brief second I thought the show was going to deviate from the books and let him live...then I realized it's GRRM and he kills everything we love.

I just saw this. Damn man, I was so happy that Oberyn was going to murder the mountain until that crazy disturbing maneuver the mountain pulls. The way Oberyn's head was just...splattered all over the ground was pretty insane.

Man, at this point I just need to stop getting attached to characters.

Says Ellie.
The Last of Us had the common courtesy to cut away from David's face as she sliced him to bits. It's a deliberate choice that leaves more to the imagination and ultimately much more effective than what Game of Thrones did.

Granted, Game of Thrones (the show at least) has never been known for its subtlety. *cough* the red wedding.

I'm talking about how the second the Prince stands close to him, the Mountain reacts like a WWE rehearsed move. The Prince circles him for a bit before that moment, how does the Mountain know that at that moment he is closest to him? And as I said, I have a hard time believing a man with the injures the Mountain had, would be able to strike out like that. His brother is about to look like an extra on Walking Dead from a stupid bite, and I'm supposed to believe he can do what he did with those injuries? I'm so gutted because of this death man, it hurts.

Ahh, I misunderstood. I can see how it seems unreal, but in a sense, that could make the scene all the more powerful. With this understanding of his injuries, it seems like the Mountain should have been done, and Oberyn should have had the fight in the bag...but the Mountain ended up being too ridiculous a force. Quite sad.

I would preferred the initial punch knocked Oberyn out cold before the Mountain finished the job so we didn't get the screaming.

I'm sure the Mountain would have waited for him to wake up. :\

Why are people making such a big deal out of the poison thing. Yes, it was established he knew about poisons. Yes, maybe he did cover his weapon with it, but how does that change anything? So he was covering his ass in case he lost (which he did, even though the Mountain certainly looked close to death too) but his vendetta was with Tywin as well and well, that is over now unless his poisoned spear magically stabs him too.

Is it just because people want to see a Hound vs Mountain fight later on? Meh. I mean, the Achilles heel injury by itself could've taken care of that. Or the spear to the chest.

I do think the poison thing is significant, because I mean... he is the Red Viper, a master of poisons. This was emphasized again and again, and poison happened to be mentioned this episode, too. It would be rather odd for the story to completely ignore this prominently mentioned aspect of the character.

On the other hand, I feel the Mountain has to be done either way, as you said. I can see two scenarios with the Mountain: either he was dead along with Oberyn during that last scene, or he is about to be in immense, horrible pain.

I don't appreciate this implication that Varys isn't a looker.

All points too true.

I was more disturbed by playing the LoU than I have been by watching GoT. Now being shocked and flabbergasted, GoT wins hands down.

Going by the reactions, i'd say the gore was plenty effective.

Shying away from the graphic horror can be an effective tactic (see Funny Games) but it's not an absolute rule (see: Martyrs).

Wasn't even phased. Sucka deserved to get got. Should've killed him and then talk shit.

I thought the same thing. Should've talked shit while stabbing him hundreds of times in the face with his spear.

Dude was careless and paid the price.

Oh for sure, and I imagine that was the reaction they were going for. Instead, I kinda just rolled my eyes. I was also a bit disappointed to see one of my favorite characters bite the dust in a rather cliche way.

But I blame that more on Martin than HBO.

I got my hopes up too until you see Tywin and Cersei just sitting there emotionless and unbothered. I got a bad feeling and then daaaamn. At least maybe this means at least the Hound still has a chance to settle the score with his brother one day? Oh who am I kidding, the Hound and Arya will probably get slaughtered out of the blue in the season finale.

He wasn't shit talking or gloating, he was trying to get justice by forcing the confession and maybe if Tywin made the order.

I was genuinely surprised by the way the scene played out. I thought he was going to last through the season at least. I don't agree with you on an exploding head as being cliche however, but I bet you're referring to Oberynon's hubris being the cliche downfall.
