GAMEPUMP - Service cancelled, everyone refunded + 2 bonus apology games

Sure, it seems innocuous, but you have to look closer.

Not quite - closer still.

There it is. Savage.

Despite our best efforts, we were unable to meet our development, submission, and release schedule we had planned. Which would have had our first game release to subscribers today (January 6th, 2017).

Rather than push an unfinished slate of games out the door to meet this deadline, we have decided to delay the launch of the service to ensure that we can meet the expectations of our fans and subscribers.

This delay could be as short as three weeks (by the end of Jan) or as long as a month (early March), we are working to get it shippable as soon as possible.

As founder of the GAMEPUMP service, I personally take full responsibility for this delay and am sorry for this failing. I understand that this can be frustrating and disappointing and I do not want any of our subscribers to feel cheated. Therefore, I would like to offer a full refund to any user who may feel that way.

If you would like to cancel your preorder and receive a full refund via the payment method you subscribed with, please fill out the form located at the bottom of this announcement and we will get it processed as fast as possible.

Regardless if you decide to leave the service, or if you decide to stick it out with us, we have a few tokens of our appreciation we'd like to offer as an official apology.

All subscribers who purchased a subscription on or before January 6th, 2017 (our intended launch day) will still be receiving a game in Jan and in Feb, however these games will be BONUS games, and not part of your GAMEPUMP subscription.

This just means they're great games, but not reflective of the types of games you'll be receiving as part of your subscription and do not count as part of your 12 games (with an annual subscription).

The first bonus game for Jan will be the award winning puzzle game LIT from Wayforward. We've rebuilt the game from the ground up for PC and added a new playable character. This game is our gift to you and does not count against your 12 game total.

The second bonus game which will be sent out in Feb is an NES horror game that has been brought to PC for the first time.

Those games are going through the certification process on modern PC marketplaces now and as soon as we can process keys for them, we will be emailing them out to all active subscribers. We estimate this will be within the next 2 weeks.

Lastly, we're excited to announce that we've been working with GOG.com to ensure that every game that appears in the GAMEPUMP service will be available first on GOG.com as a DRM-FREE version of the game. Subscribers will now have the option to redeem their DRM-FREE GOG.com version of the game by default and will be given the option to forfeit their DRM-FREE copy in exchange for a STEAM key (once available on STEAM).

DRM-FREE support was a huge request from our audience and we're happy to be able to honor that request!

So Lit and a classic NES game aren't indicative of future Gamepump games?

Huh, I wonder if they decided Lit just didn't fit the theme they were pushing, being a pretty modern game. They were clearly teasing the game as part of the service not to long ago.

So a delay of 1 month is somehow March? Man I'm feeling like a chump now, maybe I'll take that refund.

Just saw this thread and signed up.

Didn't realize bonus games were a possibility. Regardless if I get them or not. I just appreciate how legit they are being.

Props to them.

I didn't realize they were going to start releasing them this month, regardless, I have more than enough games to play from now till March. Looking forward to what they release.

Yeah, that stood out to me as odd too, especially with the 'clues' that they've had about LIT - very much making it seem like it was planned all along to be part of the service. DRM-free is good, though it's disappointing that we'll only get one of GOG and Steam rather than both..

For the sake of $20 I'm staying subscribed all the same.

I'll take another game for free I guess. Wish he'd clarify if it's the wiiware or the iOS version of LIT. I have it on iOS and the game is mega short.

For Game #2:

Good possibilities:
1. Sweet Home (would have to be fan translated, so it's not this)
2. Zombie Nation (not really good but an awesome history oddity)
3. Monster Party
4. Maniac Mansion (not really an NES game)
5. Dr. Chaos

OK possibilities:
1. Ghoul School
2. Friday the 13th
3. A Nightmare on Elm Street

Can't think of much else that is feasible.

Maniac Mansion is pretty first and foremost a PC game though...

This doesn't seem so bad. I was upset reading that press release, but it turned out okay in the end. They could have just kept this hush hush and no one would have even known if they already have 2 games lined up.

At the same time, if they knew that development was behind on the games they should have said something.

But everything is okay.

I'd love to have Monster Party on Steam. Haven't played that in years.

Missed this before. Signing up now, especially if the $20 tier is now 15 games (Lit + NES + "Bonus Month" + 12 monthly). Even if I don't like the majority of stuff, $20 for 15 games is a pretty sweet deal.

Zero communication about delay until midday of launch, no Steam copies which was a huge selling point of the service, odd language about Lit and an NES game not being indicative with what they're doing with the service.

Talk about dropping the ball.

'STEAM' and STEAM logo are a registered trademark of © 2016 Valve Corporation. We claim no endorsement from Valve Corporation.

No shit?

For you.
Fuck off Valve. Look at all the garbage on Steam already, you're gonna pretend ports of completely legitimate games are beneath you?

Seems the issue is with GAMEPUMP for not taking care of this and informing people before the supposed date the damn things were supposed to be released.

I do think this should've been handled earlier and unquestionably there should have been communication about this earlier.

But Valve making them go through Greenlight is a joke.

Oooof, I was considering signing up earlier today, and even though 20 bucks for what's now 14 (15?) games is a steal, I'm glad I didn't. Seems like a cluster, and doesn't really bode well for this just getting further off track and delayed as time goes on. Also the Greenlight bit is just laughable; on one hand, yeah Greenlight is a pointless service and Valve really shouldn't bother with it anymore, but he really decided to launch the program knowing good and well he didn't have publishing rights on Steam and still made the bold promise games would be available on Steam day 1?

I'll revisit in a few months and I'll subscribe then if it's finally in order, but right now it seems very much like a train wreck waiting to happen.

I am going to keep my sub to them. I appreciate their efforts and hope this all works out and we get some decent games. $20 for the year I can deal with. I am sure there will be at least 1 game I want to play.

Just got the email through, though it doesn't add anything new:

We regret to inform you that due to unfortunate circumstances we have been forced to slightly delay the delivery of the first games in your GamePump subscription.

I am sorry for this delay and understand that this can be a frustrating and disappointing development. We would like to make it up to you by offering two free bonus games, as well as offering any unhappy customers a chance to request a full refund.

You may read a full update on the situation here:
