Gamers Club Unlocked Appreciation Thread (saving $$$ for the console/handheld gamer)

Can someone please answer this? BB employees have no idea about this promo and I would like to pre order SO tonight so I can get the $10 reward. They claim you can't get the promotion by paying the balance of a pre order but I don't trust them.

I tried doing this with Call of Duty and they told me no, it has to be done with an in stock game.

GCU is a good deal. For those picking up susnet overdrive you get 5 off the season pass with the game. It cost me $65 after tax for the game and season pass. If I just bought the game without GCU it's practically the same price with no pass :O

and no season pass

Yeah with no pass.

I finally got around to picking up Bayonetta 2 today and took advantage of the GCU promotion to extend my membership through 2018. :D

I didn't have a reward card prior to this. I purchased this a couple days ago, and linked my reward card to my bestbuy.com account, and tried putting through an order on the website to see if the 20% discount would be applied, but it didn't show up at all.

Is the GCU membership linked with your reward card? If not, how do I actually get the discounts to apply? I'm guessing they screwed something up.

Should be linked to your account. When I make bb.com purchases and do store pickup the discount is applied.

It's way more confusing than it should be dealing with Best Buy's accounts, since there are two different accounts (Best Buy and My Best Buy).

I already had an account that was seemingly for both and a member ID, and they gave me a new member ID when I got GCU. Both were tied to the same email address and phone number though. So when I logged in it would automatically take me to the old member ID and GCU wouldn't apply online. I tried using the "Use Different Member ID" thing but it didn't switch over for whatever reason. Tried again yesterday and it worked, and it appears that is now my primary member ID so it uses that when I log in, and GCU applies online now.

I don't see why they can't make it easy and apply GCU to your existing member ID. I guess for the card, since I didn't have one. Still, they could have automatically changed over the member ID on my account instead of making me figure it out and wonder if something was wrong.

I thought they wouldn't do it during a midnight launch. I'll go and see. I'm not that interested in COD and will trade the week after for Asscreed.
Trust me they want to make more money, they will be harassing everyone in line for paying for the season pass, disc protection, strategy guides and whatever else.

saving $$$ for the PC gamer too now they also give $10 certificates to PC versions of AC Unity,Far Cry 4, Evolve, Arkham Knight, etc

This membership is dangerous.

I have Smash, COD, Dragon Age, GTAV, and Far Cry 4 preordered, three of which includes $10 certs which I will probably use on Bloodborne.

Shieeeet.

So if I were to get the Best Buy credit card, with GCU I would get 3.5 points per dollar spent on games, correct?

If I preorder a game on the website, then earn a reward certificate (buying other things), is there any way to use that certificate on the preorder without canceling and reordering?

Signed up yesterday and picked up my preorder of SSO and only see 1x points for the transaction and no sign of the preorder bonus.

  • Do you get 2x points for this initial transaction (GCU+game)? Or will that show up on subsequent purchases?
  • When does the $10 preorder bonus show up in your account?

I remember you have to link the GCU to the previous purchase. I picked up my bundle first and then GCU and the clerk told me that I would have to add the receipt to my GCU to get the benefits.

Yeah, I plan to go to Best Buy Monday to get the 50 dollars back and put it into Smash 4 which is $48. So I get free Smash Wii U.

20% off new Nintendo games makes the membership worth it.

I preordered SSO and put $5 down on Sunday, and then I picked up the game (paid it off) and bought GCU yesterday. So I have to link GCU to my initial preorder transaction? How would I do that?

Did the exact same thing! Would also like to know what to do.

Being new the whole BB experience, one thing has stood out as I've searched various knowledge bases and forum threads: the points side needs several business days to sort itself out. I'm going to circle back on Monday and if the 500 point preorder bonus is still nowhere to be seen, then I'll contact BB CS (shudder).

I wish the people that worked at my local Best Buy were more knowledgeable. The guy that helped me when I was there didn't know what platforms Bayonetta 2 and Tales of Xillia 2 were for which should have been a sign, and then he told me GCU did not apply to the Smash bundle. Didn't find out he was wrong until later.

Can you change a preorder over the phone? I don't know when I'll even be able to drive back out there due to sharing my car at the moment, and even then it's a 30 minute drive just to get out there. Just to change a preorder.

Then again, all things considered, I might be better off trusting the website that says the bundle is not available at that store. It would suck to preorder and not get one because preorders were supposed to be closed.

Can't change preorder over the phone. Has to be in store.

I think this was answered but the FAQ on CAG confused me.

I can buy unlimited new games and always get 20% off as long as they are all different. But I can only get 20% off the same game three times.

Am I understanding correctly?

You are right - they just are trying to stop people from buying up every copy of single games to flip them somewhere else (or even back to BBY in certain cases). It's even less restrictive than that, the 3 copy limit applies to any one game for any one console.

You can buy as much as you want but only 3 of each game for each console. So you could buy 3 copies of COD:AW for PS4 and another 3 for XBO but you couldn't buy 4 copies of either (without getting banned later).

Q: Once I am a member of Gamers Club Unlocked, is there a limit to how many new video games I can buy with my 20% discount?

A: Yes. Members are limited to three copies of a new (i.e. not pre-owned) gaming software title per platform, per year. Collector’s and Limited Editions count toward that title limit. Game of the Year editions, usually released much later including additional content do not count toward that limit but would essentially start as a separate game and limit.

Just to make sure I'm understanding this correctly, this means I can buy as many new games as I want per year (for example: 6 PS4 games in a year), but I can't buy more than 3 copies of a single game on one platform?

Right. You can buy as many PS4 games as you want but you can only, say, buy 3 copies of Assassin's Creed on PS4 and if you wanted, 3 copies on X1.

Just got back from Best Buy, picked up Shadow of Mordor PS4 and Fantasy Life 3DS. Saved 20$ just on those 2 games so the membership is nearly paid for already.

Good deal!

Just bought another card with Smash, now good through Jan 2018. I guess I could go tomorrow and reup through 2020. Wonder how Best Buy is doing financially?

Is this dea worth it if you don't have a local Best Buy? I'd have to drive a couple hours to get to one and sign up for the deal, but could I just reap the benefits through online orders after that?

So how would this work with CoD?

I have a trade in (madden), I trade the game in tomorrow, then I preorder CoD and buy this gamerclub pass and then pick the game up on Monday?

Buy two, get the third free on pre-owned games via special welcome coupon
Sorry if this has been answered already, but I signed up last Sunday and I don't think I've received my coupon yet. Is it supposed to come in an email or something?

Oh neat, I somehow missed this. Also wondering about that, and if there is any expiration on it and if it is usable online.

It has a like one month expiration and only works for in-store, so it's kind of bleh and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to use it at all. But I guess utility comes down to how well stocked your local store's used games are.

Yeah, I'm not sure where it is either. I have a "print coupons" link in my welcome email, but I just get an error when I click on it.

Yeah. I don't go to my local Best Buy often so I have it shipped to me.

So supposedly you can get GCU for free if you buy non-contract Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint phones. These phones run you $15 so that's $15 for GCU. :o

About to try it myself.

Yes you can, and if you buy a large amount of retail games then it is totally worth it.

So can anyone confirm if this is promo is going on until the 8th? Originally it was only until the 1st, and that was yesterday.

Actually the deal has been extended to 11/16. I will update the OP shortly.
