Gamers Club Unlocked Appreciation Thread (saving $$$ for the console/handheld gamer)

Did anyone do this twice to set themselves up for the next 4 years? I'm considering it although who knows how long this program will even last.

That's what I'm about to do. I was going to do the $30 deal with AW, but I can just sell the phones and make my money back.

Has anyone had trouble getting GCU to show up on their best buy online shopping account? Mine doesn't seem to be acknowledging the GCU even though the gcu works in-store. I can see the reward zone's regular points stuff but no discounts seem to show up.

I'm currently exploring the site right now and it seems to have acknowledged that I'm a part of the GCU immediately. If you are on the main MyBestBuy page, click on "View Certificates" and on the following page, underneath the progress bar of how much you need to spend to reach Elite Plus status, there is the GCU stuff. For me, anway.

This is incredible. I had no idea about this thing. This is akin getting PC games at GMG for $35-40 day one. That trade-in strategy is nuts too.

Q: Once I am a member of Gamers Club Unlocked, is there a limit to how many new video games I can buy with my 20% discount?
A: Yes. Members are limited to three copies of a new (i.e. not pre-owned) gaming software title per platform, per year. Collector’s and Limited Editions count toward that title limit. Game of the Year editions, usually released much later including additional content do not count toward that limit but would essentially start as a separate game and limit.

So is this talking about three copies of the SAME game being limited or is the limit of 20% off indeed 3 different games per platform per year?

edit @ above me: yeah that means copies of literally the exact same game.

Thanks, turns out two reward zone accounts wound up attached to the same phone number. I signed in with the one that lacked it.

I am looking on how to maximize trade-ins with this.

Does the trade in require the box and manual? If not, do you lose out on a lot by not trading them in?

In my experience, Best Buy's trade in values aren't that great...worse than GameStop's for most of the games I looked up in the past. It may get a slight advantage with the 20% new game discount, but it's not as decisive an advantage as it should be.

Well at the moment they're doing a 50% trade in bonus + your 10% trade so you'll be getting a 60% trade in kicker, unfortunately they also lower the trade in values when they do the 50% trade ins so really its all on you if you think its worth it or not.

From the other thread though people were saying generally if its under 10$ the trade-in is worth it, if its over 10 dont bother.

Okay so seems they are doing an extra 50% trade-in credit right now. Not directly Gamers Unlocked related, but figured I'd post about it here.

Rayman Legends is still $17, and so is Kinect Sports Rivals. With the Extra 50% on both its $27.50 each. I'll be getting Unity for "free" due to Gamer's Unlocked discount after all is said and done.

It's 60% with GCU right? I'm planning on going down there Friday and trading in some games and picking up Bayonetta 2. Have to wait since they won't have the game until then and it's too damn far to drive to make multiple trips.

Will also cancel my Smash preorder in-store since I ordered the bundle online.

I'm a newbie to GCU so if it stacks on top of this promo then hell yes!

I have a few questions that I didn't see answered, or if I overlooked them, apologies in advance.

1. Do you get the $10 reward certificate for preordering in store, online only, or both?

2. Is there a way to know which games offer the $10 reward certificate for preordering?

3. How much is required to preorder a game in store?

I've only ever preordered games from Amazon, and I like that they don't charge you until the game ships. I saw someone in this thread say that Best Buy charges the full amount when preordering online. I'm hoping that in store is similar to Gamestop's $5 down.

For 3, it's $5 down.

Best Buy DID charge me the full amount when I preordered Smash online, but I paid with a gift card. I don't know if they do that with other payment methods or not.

Do you get the pre-order promotions of $10 reward points for only pre-ordering online and then picking it up in store, or do you get it if you pre-order online and have it shipped to you?

These are good questions I'd like to know myself. I know if I want to pricematch a game, I can only do in-store; can't get a price match if I do the "hold the item and pay in-store." So I'm wondering if the $10 reward certificate only applies to "pre-order in-store and buy in-store" only.

1. Works both ways.

2. Here's the list, which should update as they add titles: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Games-P...10/pcmcat308100050002.c?id=pcmcat308100050002

3. I think it's $5, but I usually pre-order online with store pickup as the delivery option. My way means they hit your credit card with a temp charge to verify it, but don't officially take your money until you get the game. I wouldn't do this with a debit card though, since banks tend to give you overdraft fees if the verification charge puts you in the negative.

As long as you pre-order the game and complete the transaction when it's released, meaning it's shipped to your or you pick it up in store, you get the $10 reward.

So I'm a member until 2016.

I placed an order for GTA V online for $47.99 (sweet!)

How do I make sure I get the $10 certificate for preordering the game?

Nothing you have to do, it appears automatically in your rewards history around 15 days (give or take 5 days) after it ships/is picked up.

There have been cases where the points haven't appeared, so best thing is 2-3 days after you receive the game go to bestbuy.com, click on account, sign in, click on rewards, purchase history, find the line item for the game - ugly and time consuming since you have to expand each entry - and you should see something like "Victory can be preordered!" with 500 points pending. Sometimes 0 points pending. Then wait 3 weeks and it should have turned into 500 points awarded. You can then turn those 500 points into a $10 certificate or just bank them and do a bigger certificate later on down the road.

if it doesn't show up after 3 weeks you get to call/email best buy and they will eventually award you $10 in points and say sorry.

Just went again today after work and bought that net10 thang for $7 and got an extra 2 year GCU! I am now set for GCU until 2020!

Going to head there after work today and trade in Rayman Legends for X1... it's $17 before the 50% extra, I think that's pretty good.

Where do you do the trade ins, at the front service desk?

I find that best buy is usually way better than anybody else, actually. I just traded in Evil within today for $45 with the GCU bonus.

Most new games are around $40 for about a month from release. If you can do the $10 reward point thing with the games, you can make money on most games with a play it quick and trade it strategy.

How does pre-ordering work with BB? I want to head over and PO GTA V and never PO'd something from them before. Do they work the same way GameStop does?

Basically, you bring a little card to the register and put down however much you want to put down. Then they give you a receipt, and you pick it up and pay the balance within a week of release. I'm not sure what happens if you don't actually pick up the game.

So I can't seem to preorder the Smash bundle for in store pick-up. All the stores just show unavailable. Hm... I guess maybe I'll have to pre-order for shipping? Or hope that they have the bundle in stores, but that sounds risky.

I had the same problem with the Halo: MCC and Assassins Creed coming out on Tuesday. I had to order both online and was told that they'd get here release day. Halo shipped out a few days ago, but AC is still in the preparing order phase.

I've had this problem for a while, my local store showed it unavailable while it was still available at all the other ones within a few hundred miles. Oddly, when I went to the store to take advantage of the GCU deal the guy said I could still preorder it. Would have, but he (incorrectly) told me that GCU didn't count toward the bundle.

So now I just have a preorder to ship it to my house. Hopefully it works out, still need to cancel my in-store preorder of the game though.

Just a bump and PSA!

They extended the $40 or more purchase to get GCU for only $30, I just picked up a game today and was offered it and the salesman informed me that it's good now until 11/22 so anyone who missed out you just got another chance!

50% bonus credit on trade-ins this week! According to someone on Reddit, this DOES stack with the 10% bonus for GCU, but that 10% only applies to the base price.

e.g. Mario Kart 8 normally trades in for $26, so this week it's worth 26 + 2.60 from GCU + 13 from the promotion, for a whopping $41.60.

And yeah the thing were you can get GCU for $30 with the purchase of a $40 game is still going on.

Didn't they just do 50% credit a couple weeks ago? Anyway, I'll probably head up there tomorrow today since I didn't get a chance to before. Still need to cancel that Smash preorder and I can use the trade in credit for Bayo 2.
