GameStop To Open 1,000 Nintendo Switch Reservations At Random In Stores on Saturday

Why don't American stores just let everyone preorder? Is the Switch in that much higher demand than in Europe?

It was a mess with 360 and Wii with stores just taking preorders as wait lists and not filling all their preorders for weeks/months.

Now most stores only take as many preorders as they're promised days one stock to avoid pissing people off.

I'm guessing more European stores are taking the waitlist approach and just taking preorders and will fill people further down the list as reshipments come in.

So uh basically if I don't win the lottery looks like I can't pre-order the Switch

I'll be very upset if I can't get one and play Zelda at launch tbh

What are the chances of being able to get one without a pre-order on launch day?

P slim if you're in NA. Maybe try camping out in front of a Target like 24 hours in advance?

Was by one so I went in. The clerk was nice and answered questions I had, but he had no idea about the promotion.

Gamestop being Gamestop.

I don't have one. I'm going to try a few stores around midnight, then if not try some other stores in the morning when they open up. Last ditch resort will be like Toysrus or Kohls (They sell consoles..so maybe?). Worst comes to worse, I'll pick up Zelda on Wii U; play it, sell it, and then rebuy it when I get a switch.

I can probably swing around a few places at midnight. Camping out I won't do though

Which is why you don't have to buy a thing or put down any money or join any membership to win...

Mine had 0 idea about this thing, looked at me like I was nuts and I just walked out.

Perfectly reminding me why I do my game shopping online these days.

So you don't need a pro membership like people here are saying?

But how do you even get checked to see if you win if you aren't even buying anything?

You guys didn't even show them the ad from the email?

This would make more sense, If you had signed up for email alerts on their site, and they were doing a lottery of those emails. Winners would get a free pre-order.

Friend at GS who's a manager. Last night she heard about it but has no idea how it's supposed to work. She's waiting to find out at work.

I went to my closest GSM at opening and the guy was completely clueless. He then called 4 other GS stores and none of them knew what was going on. On my way home jus5 30 min ago walked into a different GS and they said they had one an hour before. She was a nice clerk and told me to check Walmart since she said they had a sign for pre orders the night before.

Sure enough I was able to pre order one from them. So check your local Wal Mart as I was able to get one just now.

Here how it worked. Basically, the selected store would get an email that they were selected for Switch Preorders. From there... I don't exactly know since my store wasn't picked.

I received about 50+ calls today. It was exhausting. =( I just had to apologize on behalf of my company for this stupid "promotion."

Sold the shit out of For Honor though. That game is a blast. \o/

I walked into Gamestop today to see if I could reserve a Switch for my son's birthday based on this promotion. The employee told me that they'd just got 1 in and it was available to those who were pro members. It sounded like a con to me, but I parted with $14.99 and got my pre-order in.

The next customer in line had called earlier and was aware there was 1 available, but the Gamestop employee said there were none left now.

I believe I got lucky based on timing, but I guess this is how these things go sometimes.

The promotion said you didn't have to be a member as far as I know.

Wow, they got a membership out of it. You could get them in a ton of trouble with one phone call or email. 100% get them fired. But at least you got your reserve haha.

Do it, they're scummy.

My brother is gonna scalp his if he can get $400 plus shipping. Smart man.

People mad at scalpers oughtta be mad at Nintendo.

You can be angry at more than one thing

You can be angry at nintendo for creating a poor situation and then be angry at individuals for exploiting it.

so imagine you go to preorder a Switch and they say no its sold out, but they "randomly select" the guy in line behind you for a chance to preorder. Like what the fuck, should be first come first serve.

My receipt doesn't say much to be honest. It doesn't mention Nintendo or anything other than 'Available SKU'. However, when I log onto my power up rewards account, the item is there with a release date of 3/3/2017.

Nintendo needs to stop playing with these shortages. GameStop holding back 1,000 pre orders (which they probably can't even honor anyway because chances are they are taking more pre orders than Nintendo gave) for a damn lottery on pre orders is so idiotic.

Did they make you put a down payment on it?

If not, they might say "oops" and you suddenly have no preorder and are now a GS member.

1c. I'm fully aware of what they 'might' do, I'll report back on the 3rd and I'll let you know how happy or disappointed my son is!

I ended up calling a DM and that turned out to be pointless, but at least I got my complaint in that none of his Stores knew what was going on when they opened. I even told him that the way they are doing is just going to encourage the clerks to call friends since the clerks know they have one to offer. The DM was nice enough, but still, he overseas all the Stores where I live and none of them knew how this program worked and was just poorly executed.
