Gears of War 4 coming free with Nvidia 1070 & 1080s through Oct 30

This "glitch" I hope doesn't come back to burn some genuine people. As no doubt a large portion will have got the codes genuinely through builds, but the super cheap sellers probably did this glitch.

Heres hoping amazon just covers the bill for a rookie mistake in sending the codes instantly.

This is totally on Amazon. Their offer details even says you'll be emailed the code when your product (video card) ships. That said, I do feel bad that this was fraud/scam...it was too good too be true. There were multiple people selling dozens of copies, no way that many places legit bought that many gfx cards.

Never seen so many "my family owns a shop, got a bunch of extras" posts on reddit before.

Makes you wonder, how much these extreme sellers have made so far from the glitch, as they could have been doing it for the past near day, just setting up fake accounts, you could get a code every 2 minutes id say.

No doubt triple figures at least.

On one hand, id love for them to get burned, but then that would surely leave genuine poor folk getting their keys revoked. Catch 22 and all that

Got an error with my code saying I have already redeemed this promotion all the way at end of the checkout where it asks for first name and last. Anyone know why. It's not under my library. Roommates code redeemed just fine.

Did I get a used code. If it's a used code should it take me through all those screens or deny me at the first screen?

Hey, at least BorntoPlay can now ramp down his endless begging
nah
.

No, just tried and when entering my used code it tells me that right away after clicking Continue for the first time.

Mabye someone else used your code before you finished the whole process yourself. It was valid when you started the process, but got used while you are still doing it. Maybe an explanation ?

Heads up: some codes may actually be used, some others may work if you change your IP (reset your router).

Got 4 codes from Reddit, one of them was bogus, the other three went fine. Guy was "kind enough" to give me another one.

Maybe it's because I'm from the UK, but I don't even get an order confirmation e-mail from Amazon.com when I order a graphics card.

This place should have something similar to Link's Awakening where if you get caught stealing, your name is forever changed to THIEF.

So, these Amazon keys. Is there any chance that the game will get revoked?

I'm looking to buy a key as I got my GTX 1070 last month so I don't meet the requirements for a free key. But the current market is getting flooded with these cheap Amazon keys.

Maaaaaan I'm kinda pissed, I apparently bought it when it was at the absolute most expensive -_-

45 dollars was the least I could find a code for on ebay when I looked, and now 20-30 are just falling out of the sky.

Yeah, my brother got a code after I redeemed mine but we had to get a new IP before he could redeem his. Pretty weird. Different PC, different accounts etc but no dice.

Pretty slim chance I'd say.

I don't think they can actually track down actual promo codes from cancelled pre-orders.

And by the way, it's their fault.

Yoooo wtf, Amazon won't be able to revoke them because the Nvidia codes generated another code, so it can't be tracked down by Amazon right?
Fucking hell, if this gets revoked...

I doubt it, it would take some effort to track the codes all the way to the installed console its on, but who knows, time will tell.

It'd be easy for them to track down, considering the e-mail itself says "Your recent order <order number> entitles you to a promotional code."

Amazon could just check every cancelled order, and see if the promo code used has been redeemed.

I also paid 45 dollars for one. I'm not upset about it though, I was willing and ready to pay 60 so a deal is a deal.

Everybody is talking about some sort of glitch though. What is going on? I've already redeemed my code and it applied to my account, and I bought it from eBay. Am I at risk to have it revoked?

That code generates a new code... they'd have to go through Nvidia's data and probably even Microsoft's, at which point it might be easier to just pay the amount owed.

It looks like Amazon sends you your code before sending the GPU you get it with, so people are cancelling orders and keeping the game.

But I'd say that anyone who has redeemed it by now is safe.

There were other similar issues with other games. Only thing they can do is make codes invalid from now on, I'd say.

Probably not.

The "glitch" that people are talking about IIRC is they are preordering at Amazon and cancelling right away. Amazon sends promo stuff right away so that's how they are getting them and why the price crashed so fast.

So there's a decent chance the person you got it from was not using that loophole since they charged so much, though I wouldn't say you're 100 percent safe (since there's a chance they could have just discovered the loophole early and were milking it). If they had a good history on ebay you're probably safe though.

Promotion was removed from Amazon btw, so the pool's about to dry up.

Edit: Nvm it's still there, but it's definitely fixed

Got a code for $10

Feel a little sleazy about it. If Amazon/Nvidia revoke the code, I can't grumble.

I was thinking of buying the game for the retail price, but would feel like such a rip-off with everyone else getting it for free. I guess I will skip the game unless the first impressions are overwhelmingly positive.

I don't really feel sleazy at all about buying my code ($45) but I did so the day these codes started showing up on eBay. At the time I bought it, it was the only code on there and as far as I know it was just a legitimate GPU sale where the person didn't want the game.

This was before whatever this glitch is that people are talking about. I'll be downright furious at this point if they revoke the codes because there's no way I'll get that $45 back.

Isn't that a problem that Amazon generally has ? They send out codes before sending out the order, so you could easily pre-order games like CoD to play open betas and such.

They don't give a shit it seems like.

Still waiting on my call of duty preorder code, dunno what's taking them so long

Yeah I did it with the Destiny? beta and it worked was very easily.

Problem is: it's up to Ms to revoke it.

And it won't happen. Fallout 4 was Ms' mistake and they fixed it.

This time? It's amazon fucking up, then nvidia and Ms are just doing what they're supposed to do.

And games should already be paid, no matter how many gpus they sell.

Fallout 4 Deluxe and sent everyone $10.

True but at the same time, that was a Microsoft glitch where the price was free. This is Amazon buying from NVidia, who has a deal with Microsoft. The thing that kinda saves them is NVidia having to link to our accounts. We never got a MS code to redeem (which is what I thought they would do).

Either people got a bunch of free keys and Amazon takes a loss (because they have to buy more keys from NVidia who buys it from MS) or they do a lot of work to save the loss. It depends on how much money was lost and what they want to do for "goodwill" of people who bought it from scammers. I think more than anything Amazon would hunt for the scammers as that's where you can plug up holes.
