Ghost Recon: Future Soldier |OT| The Future Is Here... Finally

I can confirm the Gfx in this are not a patch on Graw2 or Graw1. Game that wa released 6 years ago. What happened?

How many other games have taken such a drastic step back?

Wow.. How long has this game been in development?

Anyway, i'll buy it cause i like the gameplay. But first i have me3 and mp3 to complete...

When was the last time a delayed/reworked game from Ubi actually came out looking polished? I don't know what goes on within that company, but delays sure as hell don't seem to be about getting more time to polish and optimize.

They appear to have run into the same kind of problem with this as they did with Conviction. It's much rougher around the edges than I had expected. Really not sure how it's possible that the models and textures could be so bad in a game this late in the console cycle. The controls are better than the previous GR games, for the most part, but everything else is really underwhelming.

I didn't expect it to be so cliched either. The characters are horrible, the cutscenes are laughable and the missions seem to have been ripped straight from the CoD franchise. I can't see how the same team that put out Summit Strike worked on this. It's almost as if all of the artists are new in their jobs, straight out of school. Either that or they've only had about a year to put the thing together and ended up using a lot of the stuff they'd created for Conviction in this.

The 8 and 9 out of 10 reviews are being really kind. As much as I love the older games, this is a 6 at most. Proper gutted.

yeah i can remember Conviction becoming a completely different game than they started out with (and dat level.......).

What team is doing rainbow six? cause that somehow seems to be shaping up better.
At least from the very little i did see from it.

Ubisoft Montreal. They handled the consoles versions of Chaos Theory and the Rainbow Six 3 as well as the Assassins Creed and Prince of Persia games. When they're on form, they create GREAT games, but they've put out as many so-so games as they have great ones.

The Partiots trailer looked incredible, but it was only a target. Until we see actual direct-feed gameplay we won't know exactly how it will turn out. Chances are it'll be better than this though. Future Soldier just reeks of troubled development and it's a shame. I think the Yeti engine is pretty much done too.

It's what happens when you have 500 people over 10 studios crunching on one game.

The difference in quality from even the beginning of this gen with stuff like GRAW and R6V just show how having a more focused team is much better for the game.

Graphics are still crap, there's no nice way of putting it. They can't hold a candle to most modern shooters, and the faces in ODST were works of art compared to this, but the gameplay? So far its solid. Movement is better than GRAW, tighter, and so is the aiming. Sprint truly feels like you're sprinting (*leers at Max Payne*), and the sprint-to-cover system works flawlessly. You can cover a lot of ground very quickly with bounding overwatch without losing any tempo - and it feels as physical as roadie running in Gears.

The animation is so good that I doubt I'll care much about that. On top of that, people seem to enjoy the gameplay.

The gameplay is really good. Surprisingly so. I didn't think I'd be enjoying it as much as I do. The story is nothing to write home about, but the action and gameplay more than make up for it.

Does the game or manual (is there one?) explain the ins-and-outs of movement and maneuvers? I found these to be extremely helpful and just flat-out fun to use with a bit a practice.

I'll chuck them down here, 'cause there's one that probably would have taken me a bit to figure out/stumble upon:

Sprint + power-slide to prone = A to sprint + B (held) simultaneously until you hit the ground.
Dive-roll to prone = be running either left or right across the screen, or hold either direction after running forward + B (held). This is SUPER effective; best used to round corners when you know someone is waiting for you or to surprise someone chasing you around a corner.
Rolling whilst prone = quickly flick the movement stick either left or right whilst prone (a few of us initially thought that this one actually required a double-tap of the stick, which is a lot more onerous).

I don't mean to be insultingly stating the obvious here, but this is good shit to know; the second maneuver especially, which is something I'd probably not have even turned my mind to had I not seen it in footage and had a fellow Gaf member confirm it.

This. i saw someone doing this in the beta and couldn't figure it out how to do it!
thanks, will try after its finished installing -_-

I'm thinking about picking this up, but reviews are conflicting me.

I'm a SP man myself so don't care too much for MP. IGN seemed to praise the SP but GT tells me that if you're into SP you should skip it??

Impressions on whether it's worth it for SP alone?

Only played the first two missions, but so far it's the worst game I've played all year. Even using the term "played" with the first mission is a joke.

So far the encounters are poorly designed, the heavily scripted and forced gameplay is absolute bullshit, and for some reason I'm still wondering what the hell did they do to my beloved franchise.

Graphically it's a mixed bag. Some textures look fine, while others are rather low res, there are also moments of pop in. Post processing effects look good for the most part, but alpha effects are low res. Lighting looks nice, and while the IQ looks a bit on the soft side, it's not a particularly jaggy game for being sub-HD thanks to the PPAA. Frame rate took a nose dive at the firefight at the end of the second mission, but I'm not sure if that was due to my network connection with the host or just horrible performance. Also, whoever their character model is should be fired or moved to a discipline he doesn't suck at. Many times the environments look pretty good just to be ruined by ugly character models polluting the scene.

Will play more today, but so far I'm having horrible regrets buying this piece of trash. Whoever was the project lead should be ashamed this cost Ubisoft $50 million to shit out.

Awful cutscenes and dialogue, dreadful "escort the VIP" sections, clumsy/awkward civilian NPCs, shoddy visuals. My opinion is that it wouldn't be worth full price for the single player alone.

The game isn't terrible, but it's nothing like what I expected. It's also rediculously easy, even on the hardest difficulty.

Ha. Refer to KageMaru's post, I guess.

Also - going purely on my experiences and general knowledge/smarts - I would bet a testicle that it's not worth it for SP alone. When was the last time a shooter of this ilk really was worth it for that reason? Arguably never.

I've seen a lot of hate for the escort missions. I didn't think they were THAT bad. It's a neat change of pacing and adds some suspense.

came to ask the same question
e3 2010 demo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFVG65kt61c

There are elements of that map in the final game, but not together.

It's interesting just how big of a drop in terms of image quality there has been from that original demo to the final product. I know that video wasn't direct feed, but that demo was clearly a lot cleaner, with nicer character models and textures, and much nicer environments.

Dreadful escort missions? I've only done the first one but I enjoyed that type of escort mission FAR more than the regular "make sure this dude keeps running and doesn't get shot" missions. At least this way I didn't have to worry about him, just me shooting the guys. Unless you're talking about some mission further along.

Yeah. My guess is that patriots will dissappoint ( at least visually )and that rainbow six will be a pleasant surprise.

Would you be playing the game by yourself or with friends in co-op?

I guess the game could be worth it when playing with friends, but not alone IMO.

Granted, I really should play more of the game and come back with a follow up opinion. The first two missions were just so disappointing for me. Hell you watch the game as much as you play it during the first mission.

So after a 3 hour online session the game can be really really really good for MP...but without team work you will lose everytime

Seems my concerns about SP were justified, its just simply ok .... but MP is pretty damn good

GRAW1 & 2 handled level transitions/loading and storytelling better. Those games storytelling were much less disruptive to the gameplay. My biggest complaint with the entire series, and this holds true with future soldier as well, is that the ghost recon games have always been heavily scripted and more about memorizing enemy placement then dynamic gameplay.

I think we were rushing through it too. There were several instances where we really didn't plan our attack well at all which caused several replays.

Does anyone know how exactly ghost points are earned? There are challenges related this mechanic but I'm uncertain how it works.

I'm really quite surprised how much I am loving single player. I really miss this kind of more thoughtful, tactical play. Really great stuff.

Watching the QL from Giantbomb. The opening with them riding in the back of the truck and seeing the village/villagers has me shaking my head. I mean, in the end it means little if the game play is there, but I kinda smiled at the fact that everyone is carrying the same red bag over their shoulders. And in a couple instances, either the the carrier or the bag itself just wasn't there. /random observation.

I don't understand how the graphics can look this rough. What sacrifices could they have possibly made for it to happen.

Otherwise, still waiting on some more opinions before I pick it up.

So beta players, how is the full retail MP?

Grenades still OP?
Server issues still exist?
How is weapon balance been shifted? Seems like AR's were the go to aside from OP shotties.
Do the other maps have spawn camping issues?

I need friends to play this with, add my gamer tag: Mayyhem. I hate playing with random people, and none of my real life friends have gotten the game yet :/

From my experience last night it seems ARs are still king.

Hahaha! No! He could only possibly mean Vegas.

Yes
Yes
Seems the same as the beta. AR's are beastly.
Yes, though not all of them.

Its the kind of sacrifice you would expect a dev to make to hit 60fps, but it isn't. I don't even think its a solid 30.

We're going to release a video on RedStorm.com tomorrow that addresses the changes that have been made since beta.
