Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer

I bet the original Ghostbuster we see the most of in this movie is Ray. He'll go to Egon's farm halfway through the movie for some reason and he will be in a Han Solo Force Awakens type role.

I'm still baffled as to why SJWs attacked Alita Battle Angel. I mean, it had:

- a badass female protagonist
- played by an actress of Peruvian descent
- living in a future city with a multicultural population
- based on a comic written and illustrated by a Japanese creator

It ticked all the boxes that these woke idiots look for in their media. Why did they decide to hate on it?

Did they? I must have missed it (to be fair I watched it quite late so missed most of the press). The only thing I can think of is maybe they didn't like it because straight men might enjoy it.

They were calling it trash compared to *blergh* Captain Marvel.

i mean there is a shot of the original cast IN THEIR PHYSICAL PRIME in this trailer, so i don't even know what people are griping about.

people want to see a bunch of old people hobbling around? no thanks for me. seeing Indy again in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Solo again in The Force Awakens, i would have gladly traded those painful going-through-the-motion scenes for something original. i can't suspend my disbelief when i see that. i just go "Ah, Harrison Ford is looking old these days". if i want to see an old Bill Murray in GB uniform ill look at the shill promotional photos they did for the last movie.
I give you Indiana Jones 4 (Ford looked like having fun in TFA, though), but the point about Ghostbusters is not the action scenes. It's the dry humor, and they could get this off perfectly with the old cast.

I just don't feel this trailer the slightest.
I guess I need my GB to be in 80ies New York.

The original was just the perfect storm at a certain moment in time.
And that is what makes it magic.

Because Ghostbusters 2016 was such a great and revolutionary movie that must be protected from the toxic fanboys at all cost!

What a bunch of whiny pricks.

I'm sure there were some idiots who didn't like it BECAUSE of the women in the movie... But this isn't a reaction to that and "giving misogynists the movie they wanted"

This was literally written by the SON of the original director/creator and his dad is the producer. They had nothing to do with the 2016 remake (which should have been in continuity). This is just a vision of one man who wanted to make the movie HE wanted because he loves the original.

I swear... SJWs...

But Leslie Jones didn't deserve any of that hate towards her that she got.

Throw that crap at the execs that greenlit the script and director.

go to your local middle school and ask some 6th graders to explain 9/11. See what happens.

People don't know what they don't know

There's kind of a mass difference between some chucklefuck conspiracy theorists and any unfortunate kids who fall for that shit regarding 9/11 verses what appeared to be virtually the entire public in Ghostbusters 2. Keep in mind it was the mayor himself who pushed for pretending the Ghostbusters faked everything, in other words a specific political figure. Now, any news team worth a lick of salt would know that A) none of the Ghostbusters had much in the way of money which would be easily proven, B) it was the mayor himself who prevented them from going to jail which would be on record, and C) in order for the Ghostbusters to have "faked" everything, they would have somehow have managed to create an earthquake, a lightning storm entirely centralized around a single building, countless ghost holograms around the city and some animatronics for Slimer and the zombie cab driver, and a skyscraper-tall robot dressed up as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man capable of walking around.

Now again, the mayor of New York City, who is eligible for at least one more re-election mind you, is the one pushing this insanely flimsy story. Yeah, no, no, no, this isn't the government scheming to send a few planes into buildings, this is FUCKING LAUGHABLE and every single news channel and rival politician would instantly prove the Ghostbusters had no money and more importantly even if they did that 4 guys, one of whom isn't even a scientist, are not going to be able to create all that shit mentioned before by themselves. The mayor's insanely flimsy bullshit would be debunked by everyone and he'd be the laughing stock of the city while the next election's candidates would be high-fiving each other that such a big rival made such a massively dumbass move. Only a few random nutjobs would still believe him, not virtually the entire public.

The opening retcon of Ghostbusters 2 is fucking stupid. There's no denying it.

i like how it might develop , and nice that all orginical actors are back in some form at least

Maybe I am in he minority, but seeing that trailer I feel this new Ghostbusters movie film doesn't get Ghostbusters as much as GB2016 did not get it.
Just for completely different reasons, though.

Meh. Looks okay. All the focus on the kids, trying to make it a Stranger Things in the Ghostbusters universe (even got one of the actors).

I'm not sure this was a very good trailer if they are trying to hype people up for a "return to form" for Ghostbusters.

This didn't do a whole lot for me. But holding out hope the actual film is good.

It's supposedly the return of Gozer so I doubt the kids will be the ones dealing with it. I imagine they mess around with the stuff when small happen while discovering the history of their Grandfather but when the shit hits the fan I imagine the they get the real Ghostbusters in.

From now on, any trash quotes from twitter that get quoted or brought up/searched shall be referred to as dumpster diving. Since twitter is the dumpster and these people are the trash.

For the record this trailer just looks ok. I am not too crazy about replacing adults with kids.

So Murray, Sigorny, Akaroyd, Hudson, and even Annie Potts are in this, yet nowhere in the trailer. I call studio shenanigans advertising this movie the completely wrong way. I don't know why they are trying to play this up like a marvel movie with some sort of big mystery.

Like I said before, its a comedy focus on the comedy. I guess they want to save the reveal of the OG for another trailer, but I think thats a mistake. Hype would be way higher if Ernie, Bill, Ray and Rudd were all in a scene together in the trailer making some sort of zinger. Weaver would be huge and way bigger than Linda Hamilton in Terminator:DF.

I am hoping the kid stuff is a minor sub plot and the meat of the movie is Rudd being funny with Murray/Sigorny/Dan/Ernie.

the only thing I can think of is they just want to show as little as possible and save best bits (original cast) as much as they can?

Sounds about right but I think thats a mistake. Would be more hype if we got a glimpse of Bill and Dan. Especially if we saw Sigorny, maybe even with a proton pack. I think Weaver would get a lot of hype.

There are a lot of times when studios market a movie as something it isn't. I think the studio put this trailer together but marketed it as a kids movie about mysteries, rather than a comedy about busting ghosts.

I predict the next trailer is going to pull a 180 and play up the comedy and include the OG's in it.

Christ these people. I mean the movie is probably going to have an asian Ghostbuster and an interracial romance that could result in black female one too.

International Trailer with some new scenes.
Has the kids at the end testing the proton pack.
I do have one problem and that's is those packs are supposedly heavy.

Isn't it great how the anger just never dies? :messenger_expressionless:

Whether it's from people who raged about the "woke" 2016 Ghostbusters reboot attempt, or now the people raging about this actual sequel surrounding Egon's family not being diverse enough (despite the rumors about Winston's and Janine's new roles)...the anger just never goes away.

I'm a huge fan of the original Ghostbusters. It's been one of my favorite movies since I saw it in the theater with my Dad and sisters back when I was 9 years old. I also loved The Real Ghostbusters cartoon and had a lot of the toys...even lovingly building my own large fire station playset that was much more accurate than the official Kenner release.

Even as a kid, I thought Ghostbusters 2 was pretty silly and a bit of a letdown, but I didn't complain about it. I didn't love the 2016 movie, but I didn't outright despise it either. It was just...there. I had no real emotional attachment either way.

It was a very sad day when I heard about Harold Ramis passing away. He was obviously loved by most of the people surrounding the franchise...and I feel this movie is perhaps dedicated to his memory. As long as they treat Egon and the rest of the Spengler family with love and respect, I will be happy. :messenger_heart:

Why did they decide to hate on it?

It came out the same time as Captain Marvel, and folks were saying they were going to see Alita instead as it didn't look shit. that is literally all it took for Alita to be #cancelled, they felt it was some sort of protest vote against feminism when Alita is a much better role model than Captain Marvel.

BRO, if one is going to retcon the ending of the prior installment by saying, "fuck you, there's no celebration, the public now hates the Ghostbusters and they're back to exactly where they started early in the first film!", you'd better have a justification that works as opposed to some drivel that thinks the audience is that brain dead to accept.

TFA didnt need to bother with one and did just fine.

Im sure Reitman will have a good explanation though.

Trailer views are interesting. Afterlife is already up to 9M while Wonder Woman which launched a day earlier and is at 13M. This isnt a sleight on WW as that trailer was great but I think the response to the afterlife trailer is way more positive than were giving it credit for.

As far as the real stars not being in this trailer, it makes sense. There will be multiple trailers. It almost feels like this one was purposely cut to make us think the entire movie is Stranger Things, and as we get closer to the release, we find out that the cast we care about will have a much larger role than we anticipated.

Now, I feel like I'm probably wrong about that. I just want it to be right.

Well, Ray owns a bookstore, Pete has a talk show, Egon is doing clinical research...at least be accurate in your criticisms if you’re going to take this ghost bustin business so seriously and respect your audience. Nobody is where they were previously and GB1 already set up the idea that the whole thing was a hoax/faked. And in the 80s it’s not like there was ubiquity of video devices to record the marshmallow man walking up Manhattan to confirm the stories.

In conclusion: eat a dick.

I'm sure the people of New York do, Paul Rudds character obviously does as he was a kid back then.
And he even talks about it as common knowledge.
I think it's understandable the Kids don't know, why would they.
It's not like people would continue talking about it for 30 years.
Just like people don't talk about things that happen 10 year's ago or 20 years ago.
Until its bought up.
Anyway I just wanted to say after watching the trailer again I gotta hand it to Jason Reitman, that was a very well put together trailer.

While I don't dislike Paul Rudd he screams mediocrity and the majority of his movies. He has been in a couple I liked but not many.

I also generally dislike modern movies based around kids.

At least the general story seems to not try to retread old ground and do something different instead of doing New York again. It looks like it could decent but then again the Ghostbusters to me is a snapshot in time. It only exists as the first movie and the real Ghostbusters cartoon. Anything outside of those is just a one off thing I never get into much.

Don't know when Paul Rudd says
"Somehow, a town that isn't anywhere near a tectonic plate, that has no fault lines, no fracking, no loud music even, is shaking on a daily basis,"
Kinda reminded me of Ray.
Also I bet the locksmith is the Keymaster lol

Im fed up of seeing that Finn kid be the go-to for any nostalgic type movie. Trailer is nice and that’s my only gripe with it. There are other young actors out there.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
Mixed feelings. Weird they don't even show one of the Gobusters at the end of the trailer as a hint.

People knowing nothing about this movie seeing this trailer might think they won't even show up at all and go "wtf!?"

This is an interesting article on the filming in Canada.

They mapped out the actual filming locations in Canada.

Of note, Dan Akroyd grew up and resides in Canada.
