Well, Ray owns a bookstore, Pete has a talk show, Egon is doing clinical research...at least be accurate in your criticisms if you’re going to take this ghost bustin business so seriously and respect your audience. Nobody is where they were previously and GB1 already set up the idea that the whole thing was a hoax/faked. And in the 80s it’s not like there was ubiquity of video devices to record the marshmallow man walking up Manhattan to confirm the stories.

In conclusion: eat a dick.

I'm talking about their progress in ghost research and proving its existence. That was completely reset. Also, the Stay Puft Marshmallow man was traveling around the city for several minutes, at least one news team would have footage of it not to mention the mess it left behind. Also police officers were present to witness the lightning storm and earthquake. This isn't some random UFO/Bigfoot sighting by a farmer or a few drunk teens, this was a massive event of multiple occurrences witnessed by thousands of people. This isn't something that just gets swept under the rug. I mean, as fucking dumb as Transfomers 1's ending saying the government claimed the Autobot/Decepticon battle was a government test that went awry, at least the US government would have the money for that story and resources to at least have a little credibility (it's just creating a dozen robots that huge and capable where the fib falls apart). 4 dudes who do well enough to rent the former firehouse they're using supposedly faking everything that happened in 1's climax, yeah kind of a massive difference.

In conclusion: grow the fuck up and don't get so pissed off someone pointed out a flaw in a movie you're nostalgic for.

Isn't it great how the anger just never dies? :messenger_expressionless:

Whether it's from people who raged about the "woke" 2016 Ghostbusters reboot attempt, or now the people raging about this actual sequel surrounding Egon's family not being diverse enough (despite the rumors about Winston's and Janine's new roles)...the anger just never goes away.
The outrage against the 2016 reboot was largely overblown and cynically used by Sony to market the film. The RedLetterMedia guys break it down here:

Out of all people who watched the trailer on Youtube, only 3.3 percent cared to give it a like or dislike. And even then the dislikes were 2.5 percent. And those hate filled comments in turn were .08 percent of the total views.

So yeah, it was whole lot of nothing that the mainstream media and woke Hollywood used to create this narrative that there was some misogynistic movement to ruin the movie. What's not nothing was their attacks on the Ghostbusters fanbase in an effort to drum up hype and support for the film, most notably their attempt to cancel James Rolfe, as I mentioned before earlier in the thread.

And as I said before, I don't normally like it when a creative enterprise fails, but I was sure glad this one did after the people involved in it used some shitty tactics to market it.

Ghostbusters is a comedy movie. If this one isn't a comedy then big mistake.
Eh, it doesn't have to be. One thing that bugs me about remakes is that they usually try too hard to be like the original. I'd give them brownie points for having the balls to make it different.

How's the 'other place' reacting to this trailer? I imagine a lot of REEEing because Jason Reitman dare to junk their precious all-female cast in order to continue the legacy of his father? Are they calling for his cancellation?

While I don't dislike Paul Rudd he screams mediocrity and the majority of his movies. He has been in a couple I liked but not many..
For me it's kind of the opposite.
Incredibly charismatic actor in some fun roles over the years.
And living with myself is amazing.

Paul Rudd's ok. he's genuinely charming and funny. not gonna argue that he isn't mediocre in many aspects, but at this point, i'd rather have them go with that than, say, the obnoxious camera mugging from "comedy star" Kate McKinnon. i'm with Rich from RLM, per their thoughts. i'm glad they are doing something new. when the question "where is the comedy in this trailer?" comes up, well, maybe it doesn't HAVE to be a comedy, maybe this movie can do it's own thing.

that said there are a lot of clues that they may just bring back Gozer for this. which would have me rolling my eyes. you gonna tell me there isn't a single other occult nerd like Ackroyd who can look up other ancient cults to reference?

Well, my first response was mostly a joke about how seriously you seem to take all of it but ok I’ll stop getting so pissed as I clearly am pissed because bustin makes me feel good and someone is trying to take that away.

BTW I actually watched GB2 last night due to this thread. Still holds up

All right man, fair enough, but keep in mind me thinking 2 is dumb and I'm not a fan of it (there are a few good aspects but the negatives outweigh them for me) isn't me saying you can't like it. I'm just pointing out why the beginning doesn't make logical sense. And even if you choose to agree with me, saying, "yeah, but the rest of the movie makes up for it for me" is a totally valid comeback.

I think people do get too hung up on plot holes and inconsistencies in the way that they think because they exist that means everyone has to agree they ruin the movie. It's one thing to argue that they're there, but no one should have to agree that that's "objective proof" the movie doesn't work overall. Especially since then they get hypocritical about it. I start pointing out plot holes in A New Hope for example, and suddenly they're telling me to basically "STFU, it's a classic!" or saying I should make assumptions that would explain the plot holes but then when one brings up making assumptions regarding plot holes in the newer films oh suddenly that's a no-no. Seems "legit".

Wasn't trying to make you feel like you had to hate 2, just arguing my case regarding a specific element. And hoping the new movie will be more logical about the Ghostbusters' reputation given their accomplishments.

They still can. Rumors have it that the Ghostbusters are now a corporation in this movie and Winston is the CEO. The ending of the game hints that at this direction.
That can't be true, one because there hasn't been a ghost sighting in 30 years.
With no ghosts the team has pretty much been put out of business and forgotten, especially after 30 fucking years
And 2 nobody remembers, it just something that happened in the 80's and was forgotten and you can find some footage on YouTube, something someone who keeps having a pissy fit about kids in the film not knowing about it keep forgetting

I'm suprised that they haven't made a movie based on Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon. They could have taken the basic idea from that. I liked how scary the show was. Deadliners was my favorite episode.

The Real Ghostbusters for me.

That show actually introduced some nuance into the morality of what they do and how if the spirit was from a former person that it's kind of messed up if they just imprison a ghost for no reason if it's not hurting anyone.

Which was why in the cartoon show they only captured and put ghosts in the containment unit that were dangerous and trying to hurt people.

Lol man, that 2016 movie was dog shit. I watched it because it had that fat chick in it that does good comedy's and thor. And it was was horrible to the point i didn't even watch it to the end.

I bet they didn't even saw the movie. Like your typical extreme left liberals, they only see race, sex and hate. like the nazi's they are.

Oooh I wonder if the stars of the 2016 movie will get horrible shit cameos in this one like the stars of the original movies got in 2016.

  • Leslie Jones can be a lunch lady at the podunk rural middle school
  • Melissa McCarthy can be some kind of farting waitress at a diner
  • Kristen Wiig can be a mental patient smearing walls with poop
  • Kate McKinnon can be Bill Murray in this one by calling Paul Rudd an asshole before falling down a well and dying

hopefully they will come up with another joke as good as MIKE HAT

get it? he has a dog named "MIKE HAT"

it sounds like he's saying "MY CAT"

but it's a DOG. not a CAT!

WHY AREN"T YOU LAUGHINGGG???
And yet, it's one of the only jokes in the entire movie that approach what most humans would refer to as "funny."

You know what is objectively unfunny and no argument can be made for it? "THAT's gonna leave a mark!" I guess "the power of Patty compels you" is pretty bad too, but that at least took 3 brain cells to put together.

I laughed at the limp proton pack stream. I also laughed at the parts with Jason Statham.

While this does seem to lean more into Stranger Things than Ghostbusters, I'm still actually interested in seeing it which is more than I could say after watching the Ghostbusters 2016 trailer. If the original characters have more than cameos I'll see it opening day, if not I'll wait for streaming.

I think Jason did well for the first trailer, as it stands on it own its a fantastic trailer and pays respect to the original.
If Trailer 2 can introduce the original team in an epic way
I see blockbuster happening.

Rick Moranis cameo would be epic, I'll admit.

Edit: To add for reasons it could happen (I know what happened with his history/retirement)

My bet, if he's in, he's the dog in the trailer. It'd make sense
"It happened to me again!"
My bet is the key maker, he had several scenes in the trailer including him investigating something in his shop.
Makes sense he would become the Key Master.
But that would be awesome if Rick was in it too.
I've got a gut feeling the kids will have fun with the equipment with Slimer being their main concern until the Terror Dogs appear, then the OG team shows up and takes over.

Yeah possibly.

This one looks decent though so I'll give it a shot.

Though I would have liked a new one with:
Bill Burr as Venkman's nephew (perfect for talking out his ass)
Dave Chapelle as a new Winston Zedemore (as Thurgood Jenkins, Janitor at the school, looking for a better paycheck)
Paul Rudd would fit as a Ray
New Egon, dunno on that one.

thinking more on this, i like the rural setting. i think that's an interesting twist, and also a nod to the heart of the Ghostbusters. Dan Ackroyd comes from a family of Spiritualists, they had seances at farms and told ghost stories and stuff when he was a kid, that is where all this comes from. what can i say, maybe this explains why he's so weird, or why he came up with GB in the first place.

Spiritualism was basically an American folk cultural/religious fad that swept English speaking countries primarily during the late 19th century. intellectually you had never before translated mystical texts like the Egyptian and Tibetan Book of the Dead from religions of the East ("Orientalism") as well as charlatans and people adding their own ideas. among regular people you also had local celebrity mediums like the Fox Sisters, the "original rappers".

hydesville-house.jpg

"rapping" was how the spirits talked to the medium in Spiritualism (basically the science of communicating w the spirit world). yes this practically amounted to knocking on tables, but it was also part of a larger presentation that included smoke & mirrors, sound effects, puppetry, actors, optical illusions, etc. people would throw these kind of spirit gatherings and all go check it out for a weekend night on the town. this was done all over the place, in many rural areas as well as in the cities.

fox-sisters-seance.jpg

more of the awesome Fox Sisters.

ectoplasm+4.jpg

a medium producing "ectoplasm" from her mouth & hands

so i like the idea of going back to an old farm, it makes me think of the older more Spiritualism side of GB rather than jokey action hero stuff. tho there will no doubt be that too.

If that's the case, better have a book of Isis Unveiled/The Secret Doctrine in the library/stack of books, or references to Madame Blavatsky. Or at the very least the Theosophical Society.

I guess Tobin's Spirit Guide is a nod to it, but still.

I should watch it at some point. I have never watched it. Extreme Ghostbusters was my first introduction to Ghostbusters if I remember right. They should release both on Blu-Ray.

Real Ghostbusters was brilliant fun, I absolutely loved it back in the day. No idea how well it would hold up to me watching it now as an adult of course, though I'll definitely let my kids watch it when they come along (if I can get hold of it).

I have them on DVD. I watch them once a year. think they hold up quite well all in all.

I stop watching once they got rid of Lorenzo Music, though. And Buster Jones is a big downgrade from Arsenio Hall as well.

I laughed because it was so bad i couldn't believe someone got paid to write it.
Also it only (barely) makes sense in english.

It just occured to me that my first exposure to Ghostbusters was Ernie Hudson on that nightmare-inducing episode of Super Mario Bros. Super Show. With that in mind, the franchise can only go up from there.

Also, GB2016 is garbage but it has my favorite line in the series:
