Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer

Right so they're CLEARLY going for a stranger things vibe

it's probably too serious for its own good though. Ghostbusters was a comedy - almost a piss take of monster movies.

On the hand other I am glad they're trying something new.
It still treated the supernatural elements very seriously and had some very very scary moments.

That's what doomed the 2016 reboot from the start, they treated the ghosts as part of the joke.

I don't know it had slimer and the librarian scene was funny but had a jump scare as well.
Some of the stuff later on in the film was less so I'll give you that.

Ghostbusters the original was a very subtle comedy, the remake was the complete opposite.

and this is what the people loyal to that film can’t seem to understand, or just refuse to:

It didn’t bomb because it had a female cast. It bombed because it sucked.
I usually don't celebrate the failure of a creative work, but I was really glad when the 2016 remake bombed. If only because of how the mainstream media and woke Hollywood treated James Rolfe.

I'm glad he was vindicated in the end for his stance. No one owes these shitty Hollywood SJWs their money after that kerfuffle.

Im not sure about the kids. Hard to associate them with the type of dry humor GB was about. Trailer was missing some. I bet Antman gets possessed and become the bad guy.

Even so, looks way better than the slapshtick woke crap GB2016.

Old trailers for comparions. That GB2016 moment.... falls way off the cliff...

I thought he may be the bad guy but I hope not. Would be too similar to the 2016 movie I think.

the comedy in it was fucking terrible. multiple jokes about not enough won tons in the soup! Kevin being so stupid that he covers his eyes instead of his ears when he's trying to not hear something! a literal pussy fart joke! did the original movie have any fart jokes? anyone remember Venkman squeezing out a long turd in the elevator? nope!

these would be bad jokes in a bad episode of the Simpsons. mindboggling that they ended up in a giant budget movie. then again that shows how little they think of the audience. "these fans will buy anything" indeed.

Love the homages to past movies, the atmosphere, and I'm a Paul Rudd fan in general. That said, I hope the whole movie isn't just kids.

eh, i like Stranger Things and that's mostly "just kids". i don't see how having kids at the center should necessarily ruin a movie. worked for Goonies. worked for the 8 Harry Potter films.

also isn't that like a hugely popular tv show that a lot of people like? it has been funny seeing (not necessarily ITT but around the internet) "looks too much like Stranger Things" takes. LOL it looks too much like that thing that people like? oh no...

I like what I saw, the tone so far seems a little on the darker side I hope they pepper in some of that og comedy. And it's just a teaser basically I am sure they will show the original crew in the next trailer and show some more ghostbustin.

So a safe guess would be that Paul Rudd and the kids mother get Terror Dogged and become a new Keymaster and Gatekeeper, minus the whole part where they gotta fuck to bring Gozer back. lol

This looks like Stranger Things. Honestly it does look good. I am still a bit on the fence because it is children which makes it a bit eh. But otherwise it looks good.

Wild theory time... What if the kids' grandfather is not Egon, but Louis Tully?

That would be wild. If Jason Reitman can get Rick Moranis out of retirement to do a cameo I'd be a happy camper.

Would be great! Pesci is a good example of this recently.,

I’m not completely convince. Some stuff looks good. Also it looks like a follow up to the original so that’s great.
but the kid theme didn’t convince me completely in the trailer. Hopefully, that’s just the beginning of the movie and they became actual ghostbusters quickly.

I'm not sure yet. And I never really like the "forgotten into myth" thing these movies do. Kids 10 years from now will know what happened on 9/11. Schools will teach it. They'd teach a ghost invasion that threatened all of mankind too :messenger_tears_of_joy:

They were already doing this by Ghostbusters 2, making it even worse. But, whatever. My actual problem is whether or not I want to watch a movie that seems to clearly feature kids for 90% of the runtime.

Agree with most in here, I always said if they made Ghostbusters 2016 in the same style with Adam Sandler, Martin Lawrence, Ben Stiller and Will Ferrell then it would have been received and bombed exactly the same. Ghostbusters 2016 was made for a specific target audience and relied on enticing those with strong nostalgic memories to buy in on the brand. And it failed, because the brand was disrespected. Ironically a lot of the same people are now complining because of the 'kids' cast. Let's call all these people anti-natalists, the bastards!!!

After watching this trailer, the era we live in is Stranger Things, hell even IT is only a 15 certificate. Movies are trying to appeal to the largest cross generation of cinema goers on a common theme. Although I think ST comparison is largely based on the same kid and a 'creepy' setting. The new trailer seems to have some honest attempts at homages while also reinventing the formula. With the lack of a true sequel of the original cast, this is probably the best we will get. I think this trailer was set early in the movie and was just teasing the tone and formula of the film.

That reddit plot leak seems to be stacking up tho.....

Looks like it's probably good as some kids adventure movie for oldies to take their children to see in some attempt to bond.

I guess when it comes to Ghostbusters, I was always more into those actors playing those characters within the concept rather than just the general concept itself. So some next generation thing has never appealed to me.

Though if this is what you're looking for then this at least looks like it should be decent enough.

That sounds cool but didn’t the trailer state there have been no ghost sightings for 30 years? No ghost sightings, there would be no need for Ghostbusters franchises.

I bet you that part got scrapped. It honestly sounds like a mash up of some of Akroyd’s original GB script and some stuff that will be in the actual movie.

The rest of it may be legit. I just hope the comedy lands. The OG GB movies were very funny. I still laugh at some scenes even today.

Also, anyone else getting Bumblebee vibes from this trailer?

Do we know the new movie is set in 2019? It could easily be 2021 or 2025. Not much is going to change in Bumblefuck, USA.
Its most likely set in 2020. I wouldn't be suprised if they forgot the game or didn't even know about it. Dan Aykroyd is not listed as the writer.

I'd say there was never a chance the game would be canon to the movie franchise long term. It was under the idea there would be no more movies I'm sure.

I’ve seen a lot of YouTube/social media reactions say it feels too much like Stranger Things, but other being focused on kids and sharing an actor, what similarities exist?

I dunno maybe its just me but WW trailer dropped and people said “oh 80s, stop copying Stranger Things,” now this drops and people say, “oh kids and supernatural, stop copying Stranger Things.”

seems a little unfair?

It is unfair, it's like all people know these days is stranger things, despite it beign a copy of many 80s stuff itself, lol.

I'm hyped for it. I think the girl works, she looks like she could be related to Harold Ramis.

However having a cast member from Stranger Things doesn't work for me and is a bit jarring.

It looks like the 2009 game isn't canon anymore. The trailer says that there hasn't a ghost sighting in 30 years. It was set in 1991.

How would these kids not know that the world nearly ended 30 years ago (Twice).

It was pretty damn public.

You'd be surprised at what little kids are taught. Though I find this far more believable than 2 with their not being a ghost siting in over 30 years, versus the like 2 years in GB2.
