GI: Guerrilla Addresses Our Biggest Fears About Horizon Zero Dawn

I absolutely love the robot designs, but apart from them the game looks like far cry primal with moving towers, your average open world game with rpg elements.

The early leaked concept art/portfolio showed some characters in the vein of Destiny, imo it would have been great if they took an even more futuristic approach but on the other hand Guerilla probably had enough of that after KZ:SF and wanted to do something more natural.

Day 1 nonetheless.

Rockefellers. Skull and Bones. Microsoft. Al Qaeda. A Cabal of Bankers. The melting point of steel. What do these things have in common? Wake up sheeple, the landfill wasn't even REAL!
too good to be real

Welcome to modern game discussion. We can't just like something. We have to pick at it for months until every bit of a game's soul is crushed under negativity.
It's an rpg..
"No it's not"

"We showed this platforming as well and.."
"Pfft I wouldn't call that platforming"
...like what lol.

At least when people were judging it based on GG's track record(which is put in too much of a negative light because it's nowhere near as bad) that held some kind of weight

Rocket launcher on top of a T-Rex? That's going to be my life.

Lazors all the way.

Mckmaster uses MasterCard to buy Slave drives
Remember this is the gen where "push the jump button at the end of the ledge" and "hold forward as your character moves over handholds on their own" is what "platforming" is now.

Glad you understand how times change. That's okay.

I think GG are going to nail everything but the story. I don't think the story will be bad but I don't think it'll be good either. Probably will end up being serviceable with some great side quests sprinkled throughout. And not necessarily the story itself but the execution will be what lets it down.

Same here. All their work on Killzone showed they really don't know how to handle a fictional universe, especially moving forward into sequels.

GI coverage has been amazing. It's great to see them get hands on time with studios and report back honestly what they've witnessed. I think Sony has a hit.

Makes me hopeful for what ND and Japan are cooking. Seems like WWS are taking there sweet time this gen, but everyone putting forth their best efforts.

Horizon
Days gone
God of War
TLG
GTS
GR2
Rigs

First time I'm eagerly anticipating a lot of Sony pubslished stuff in a while. If Bloodborne sequel is announced I'll flip.

An open world massive budget western take on monster hunter-ish gameplay is what initially appealed to me, but the more 'Ubisoft' it ends up sounding (like a lot of the OP) the more worried I get. I mean a game being AAA is not a death sentence, I had the same concern about TLOU and that was great. But them saying for example that they are dumbing down gear and stats because they think the general audience is too stupid is troubling.

One thing I'm hoping is that the actual gameplay pace ends up similar to what they've shown. I love the idea of enemies having complex movesets, traits and weak points you need to learn and exploit. But if you get some OP exploding arrow 8 hours into the game and it turns into mindless shoot and loot that'd be a dealbreaker. But at the same time how do you make the game engaging and challenging when you're already in the mindset that you need to make a game that any button mashing schlub can finish.

Honestly this is one of my most anticipated games and I still can't get a good read on it. It's very rare that happens. Incredibly curious about hands-on impressions but at the same time it's hard to trust them since not everyone wants the same thing out of this game that I do.

Why do people keep mentioning this when they've hired writers with really good proven track records to tackle Horizon?
Because most of these people haven't been keeping up with Horizon, and only come here to express their discontent with GG older games. Which, if we're being honest, are very solid tittles.

-When you can enemies you can see their patroll path
-Some machines work together like the Watchers keep watch ovver the Broadheads while they gather resources

Hacking a machine can do one of a few things, depending on what kind of machine you’re hacking. A Broadhead like this or something similar can be mounted and ridden around, affording you greater traveling speed whilst still allowing you to fire your weapons the same as if you were on your own two feet. Hack one of those deadly Watchers, however, and you can even the odds by having them ally with you on the battlefield. Each of these can be used tactically but you must first disable your prey, before moving in and if you don’t fancy hacking, you can instead deal a lethal blow with a tap of R1.
As Aloy moves around, you can feel the smooth control over the varied terrain and we marveled at the beauty of the environment. Terrific draw-distances and no perceivable pop-up, with objects naturally appearing when, where and how you’d expect them to. Again, the grass was gorgeous as Aloy ran about and the long grass swaying around looked spot-on. The character models of Aloy and the machines also look superb with a few little critters hopping around, helping to breathe some life into the wilderness. We just want to remind you that this was all running on a standard PS4 which was hooked up to a non-HDR TV. While the version we saw being played on a PS4 Pro was breathtaking, this version left nothing to be desired.

Oh god I really hope it has a lenghty main story and really good side stories. They created this amazing world/playground lets hope it will be interesting exploring it, filled with secrets and mysterios shit.

For emphasis

Horizon: Zero Dawn will be a full open world from the very beginning, allowing players to explore the world as they see fit.

Perhaps if it's repeated enough, people will cease being concerned.

The menus look very user-friendly.

I haven't felt any big reason to doubt this game. It looks incredible, but it doesn't feel like they're over-promising anything. It's all elements that have existed before, just put together in a unique way with a never-before-seen aesthetic wrapping. And while I've never played any of their games (Killzone just didn't interest me), my understanding is that Geurrilla is a fairly competent developer and they've made some really promising talent acquisitions recently.

I dunno. I'm expecting (and hoping!) to love the absolute shit out of Horizon, but I don't really have a lot riding on its quality. The premise alone is enough to get me on board. The only way this game can disappoint me is if it's a steaming pile of dog shit.

Good stuff GG.

If they can nail the lore in a similar vein to TW3 I'll be absolutely in love with the game.
I want to be invested in Alloy's world like I was in Geralt's.

I mean, as high as my own hopes are, that might be asking for a bit much. CDPR is kind of in a class of their own with that shit, and I don't think Guerilla has shown much of a pedigree for it.

I'm expecting a fun, pop sci-fi story about robot dinosaurs. Though admittedly, if you ask me if I want a robot dinosaur story with all the narrative gravity of The Witcher series, the answer is a resounding "more than anything I've ever wanted in my life." But it probably won't happen.
