whats the short and sweet on this gamersgate thing?

I still have no clue what it is and haven't had the time or patience to really look.

no that's not a picture someone drew to make fun of gamergate. yes, they are unironically using terminology("cultural marxism") pretty much exclusively used by neo-nazi/white supremacists groups. and yes, that's supposed to be patrick.

please continue ignoring gamergate.

Guys, I've been an avid listener of the Bombcast since 2009 and way into Giant Bomb Quick Looks since probably 2010. I spend a lot of time bored at work with the opportunity to watch their video content, but sometimes I run out of Quick Looks and I panic. Lately, I've been considering upgrading to Premium, if only to thank the crew for so many hours of entertainment. My question is:

Is it worth it? What would you recommend giving a watch?

It's totally worth it! The backlog of Premium content is pretty incredible, and most of the most classic stuff they've done is behind a paywall. Also, the current Premium content is great too.

When it comes to what content I recommend, I made something for this very occasion a couple of days back:

For an even more extensive overview of the best Premium stuff over the years, go to page 13 in this thread. Some more discussion there, Daydreaming made his own list etc. :)

The more Karl Pilkington I watch, the more intelligent I think he is. He has honestly said some crazy shit that actually made me reexamine preconceptions I had about something. I'm waiting for a similarly philosophic Dan moment. I may be waiting a while.

No, I'm not surprised at all. It's seriously magical to watch him explore these places. Karl seems to have an appreciation for the quirkiness of everything that manages to be both surprisingly intuitive and very awkward all at once. It's actually really nice. There's this increasing tendency toward watering things down, and by contrast, the world looks particularly crisp through Karl's eyes.

Watching this F1 QL, MGS etc., it's insane how much Drew has improved in front of a mic/camera since he first began appearing in content on GB years ago. And how much he has improved especially since he became a regular on the Bombcast. A couple of years ago I didn't dream of him becoming such a big part of the site's content like he is now, and it's glorious.

Great work!

Oh wow, I forgot Drew wasn't always a Bombcast regular. But yeah, it's pretty cool to see his personality come through in the way it has recently. Definitely quite a departure from the quiet figure I got to know while occasionally dabbling in GB content over the past few years.

A 1000 times yes. Not only is the backlog of premium content hundreds of hours long at this point, it's consistently some of the best content GB have put out. If you're already a fan you won't regret it.

Thanks for the recommendations! I'm definitely upgrading now. I need to watch that Mario Party Party.

You guys need to stop posting so much. This thread is already 1/10th full. Won't someone think of the servers?

This entire gamergate thing is fuckin' dumb, but FAFSA loans being at the top of the pyramid got a legitimate chuckle out of me.

Would the ZOE pack in MGS2 demo qualify for a demo derby?

For the real MGS2 experience Drew should play that, think the japanese VO is rad then wait a few months before he plays the final game.

For the real MGS2 experience, Drew needs to watch the trailers in order during the break, then the ZOE demo, and all the while reading a million EGM articles about MGS2.

I will certainly continue ignoring gamergate (easy as breathing!), but I refuse to believe that image wasn't made by someone making fun of gamergate. It's just too ridiculous. I don't know if I want to live in a world where someone would make that in earnest (and worse, other people take it seriously).

you speak so well

he also needs to get his memory erased because he knows you play as Raiden, so he can play as Snake for an hour and then rage that you play as some dumbass blonde dude instead

After watching the ending of MGS1 I have built up the assumption that everyone will end up being a blood relative to Snake/Big Boss in some way or another. I look forward to seeing if this is actually the case.

When I saw my brother playing as Raiden on the Big Shell I thought he had unlocked some VR missions or was playing around with The Document of MGS2 (which was a EU pack in) or something.

Little did I know the horrible truth.

poe's law is in full effect, I suppose. That being said...
Yes, it's a political satire, but also sadly based on the truth of the current Social Justice agenda being pushed by groups like Silverstring Media, DiGRA, Feminist Frequency, Gawker Media such as Kotaku, Vox Media such as Polygon, Adria Richards ala Donglegate, Groups like Freethought blogs and Atheism Plus, Gender Studies via Academia such as Gail Dines anti-pornogray Stop porn culture, Marxist Feminist, WikiMedia, The US goverment with programed like It's On Us and Ban Bossy.
Several years ago Penn and Teller talked about this Social Justice Movement in collages censoring Freedom of speech. Bullshit Season 3, Episode 6 part 1,Part 2
Here is a good rebuttal to the general Myth of Social Justice By Jessica Pacholski
Here F.A. Hayek talks about the economic failures of Social Justice
HereYuri Bezmenov a former KGB oprative talks about how Social justice is used as a psychological warfare subversion tactic to control of western society
Here is Saul Alinsky Rules for Radicals how he talks about how to Radicalize a society to force a fallacious appeal to compromise to force a socialist victory.
Here is a video about how the political left destroyed the art world back in the 1930....

I'll end that quote here(it goes on for a while)but that was from the guy who made it sooooooo...

Only thing that annoyed me about the gamergate stuff was that nobody wanted to talk about the Quinn stiff at the beginning.

Streisand effect blew everything up and instead of just talking about it and how it really wasn't on the same level as watergate it gave credence to a cover up/conspiracy.

And because no news site or gaming forum wanted to touch the subject (this forum included) it let twitter and 140 characters drive the story instead of write ups. People started connecting dots on stories that didn't connect and some that did.

I mean pretty much everyone here talked about the Tempkin stuff when that went down and their wasn't a moderator backlash nearly to the same extent and the story died down.

Even though Patrick wrote up a piece why wasn't it on Giantbomb instead of his personal tumblr? It lead credence to media figures trying to protect people in the indie games because of their proximity near them and their personal relationships with them. Maybe those people would have been attacking everyone left and right but I don't think it would have turned into what it has become.

CagCast on cheapassgamer.com had the best discussion I heard about anything. They talked about everything in a frank way and I think it also helped that they didn't know any of the main parties involved so they talked about it like it was any news story and talked about why everything blew up.

Whole thing was a perfect storm of craziness to blowup to what it became.

i swear, i must be like in the 1% of people on earth who weren't bothered by the Raiden bait and switch.

Maybe you were in 2001, but I feel like most people I see talking about MGS2 these days are a fan of that troll. I think it was a really bold move on Kojima's part and the reaction to it at the time actually helped make the themes raised in the back third of the game hit that much harder.

I think it also didn't help that it occurred at a time when there was nothing to play and gamers didn't have anything to occupy their time.

Still without luck
Yeah F1 2014 sure looks a lot like F1 2013.

They were weirdly uninformed in the QL. 2014 is basically roster updates with minor gameplay changes while 2015 will come out early next season to next gen only and be a huge update to the stuff. I think they also said they want to try and move the yearly release to early in the season and update as needed, like most sports games do.

Do you happen to know which cast? Because I still don't understand anything of what happened. Thanks!

I got spoiled by reading the manual while walking home from KBtoys after picking up my preorder. So it never really phased me.
