Gintama° Series 3 |OT| It's Not Digimon Tri, But It'll Have To Do!

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
They need to go all the way and have the OP be sung by a woman next week instead.

I really want to get into Gintama. I tried watching the first episode a long time ago, but it just seemed weird, confusing, and I didn't get it. When did the show click for you guys and why?

Episode 25(?) was the first amazing episode. After that Gintama is consistently great for hundreds of episodes.

The early episodes are important though, because they introduce all the characters and the gags they'll use throughout the show. The first episode is filler btw

Has the first series ever been HD remastered? Is there anyway to get it in high quality?

(thanks for answering):) 25 episodes is a commitment, but it took longer than that for One Piece to really shine I'd say!

For me personally--and I don't want to turn anyone off by saying this--I didn't think Gintama got really good until the Shinsengumi Rebellion arc. That started in the early 100s. I obviously liked the show enough to watch it for that long though.

The show is definitely a slow burn at first, but the payoff is great. So many hilarious episodes, so many great serious arcs (with some impressive animation).

If it means anything, Gintama occupies 5/10 spots in the top ten of myanimelist.com lol. If you can put some time into watching it, you'll find that it's a great show.

Episode 1 is actually an original episode not from the manga, it pretty much throws all the important characters at you all at once---

The following early episodes actually introduce everyone in a nice order that you'll need to know and sets up the jokes.

Does anyone have any recommendations for anime that is like or equal to Gintama? I'm watching the new episodes of Gintama each week but I have nothing else to watch right now.

I started Bleach on the recommendation of Crunchyroll (probably dumb I know) because I had nothing else to watch, im up to ep 77 but honestly this show doesn't hold a candle to Gintama, the "jokes" are shit and the "fighting" is just people doing dumb super moves. I would like to move onto something else but I have no idea what to move on to.

Any suggestions?

Comedy is more important to me than fights.

Also does anyone know of any good fan subs for any season after season one? Id like to get my friends onto the show but I cant expect them to use crunchyroll, I've found some good ones for the first season but for all the other seasons it looks like a robot has done them (missing whole conversations translating stuff on signs rather than the people speaking etc). If I could buy some DVD's that would be even better.

Episodes 1 and 2 are an anime original story that isn't very good. Episode 3 is the real start of the series.

I saw all the Sket Dance crossover episodes. Show seems pretty decent. Shares a few voice actors with Gintama and I'm pretty sure they made a few jokes out of it lol

It depends on how many anime/manga and japan lifestyle you know, as the series references from all sort of things (mostly stuff from japan). Gintama is basically a series you'll have to watch/read after watching/reading a lot of anime/manga, otherwise you won't get the references.
I did try watching it twice (very long ago), but couldn't get into it. After 2-3 years or so I did try again and I got hooked (probably around 10-20 eps).

I did it in whole different Way compared to everyone else here.

I actually started with Episode 1 of " Gintama' ", wich i found out later was actually Episode 202. There, the Series clicked with me in the very first Episode. I watched around 40 Episodes (this was how available when i started, and then came back to see the original 201.
Having a vague Storyline helps the Series a lot, jumping in so much later into the Series did nothing to me since i still came around to know all characters.

So if Episode 25 still does nothing to you, try the Double-Episode 202/203. Thats Gintama in full force right there, in if that still does nothing to you i guess the Series might not be for you

Watch Hoozuki no Reitetsu if you like japanese folklore and want more comedy Gintama style.

Thanks everyone. Your passion for this show sells it better than any billboard could ever do.

What sort of mind state do you have to be in to enjoy this? Is it Full metal panic sillyness mode, I should try to challenge. Or get drunk before watching? Or is it more like belly laughs, like a serious episode followed by hilarious moments (one piece).

It's mostly a silly, nonsense and episodic comedy series. There is no overarching plot, but small arcs (which can get serious) that appear from time to time.

It's tough to get into Gintama at first but it's worth it. It's a great anime that is unlike anything I've seen.

Bummed that they didn't change the intro to reflect the new genders but I guess it was too much for them to do. It was a solid episode with good jokes but it didn't hit as strong as last episode. Seeing them all trying to pick up dates while real men like Sautobi and Tsukuyo have already finished the job was great. Otae and Jyubei are so cute together but it probably won't end well as a couple with Shinpachi and Kondo cock blocking all the time. I'm glad that Gin-Sensei returned at the end so keep watching until the end! BTW, I love male Tsukuyo like everyone else. So handsome!

They did change the ending which was nice.

The only times they completely changed the intro were for Kintama and the MS Paint edition. They've added one or two new bits fairly often, even for single episodes, but completely changing it is rare. I guess they could have changed at least the final shots though.

They also changed it to add Madao to one of the intros and also had an extra fail intro for the tenth one. They do it more than most anime so I expected too much.

That's just one or two extra scenes though. Like I said, they've done that a few times. Changing the intro here would pretty much require them to redraw it completely, which they've only done twice (and one of the times it was the low budget paint version).

Yeah it was probably too much to ask for them to change a lot of the intro for 3 episodes.

The overall gender bent arc was strong at first but the overall conflict and plot weren't that great. It was more of a funny arc when compared to the other arcs that are usually great on all fronts but it still ended well. It felt rushed near the end which is a shame. Hopefully the anime team will be able to finish up the new OP and ED on time like they said during the credits.

I felt like the new team here was too fearful to actually add content to the arc. They easily could have covered things from Gintoki's point of view too and also added some characters who didn't appear in the manga in order to extend the arc a bit more.

Still, I guess this is what hurts this season so far. The old crew could take some mediocre stories from the manga, extend them and somehow make them better - like that Sketdance crossover episode (meanwhile, the Sketdance anime team extended their side of the story too but it just made their side worse). So far, this has been a adaptation and they've kept the "style" of the old anime at least superficially, but there have been almost no added scenes aside from that press conference. So, the weakness of the manga are weakness here too, without anything being done to fix them.

The last 13 episodes season by the old team was an adaptation of the manga panel by panel too though, so maybe there's more going on behind the scenes regarding this change.

It seems like the new team is really bad at timing too...I felt like last episode ended at a really weird point, and this episode also really lacked oomph. Like all the arcs this season so far have felt like that.

Plus, the old team would've probably ended this arc by having a montage-style version of the OP play at the end as it role the credits as a final hurrah to usher in the new one next week.

Really disappointed in this season so far. Next episode isn't giving me hope since it's focused on a pretty weak and uninteresting character...

Oh, good point about that. But, yeah, the old crew certainly would have started this episode with the ending and then played a flashback with scenes from the arc to close the story and use the opening for the last time in a special way.

I can understand what you guys are saying. It's still standard gintama which is good but the jokes haven't been especially strong this season.

So, I just started Gintama and I'm heading towards the 20th episode. So far it's just about comedy.

I find it entertaining, but not that much. Is there a point where the anime starts to shine ?

Episode 25.

Gintama's jokes are very character based, the longer you know the character the better they will be (which is why episode 1 and 2 were bad). But episode 25 takes it on to another level.

Hope tomorrow's episode surprises me, because I really don't have a lot of expectations for an episode starring such a minor character like that one Yoshiwara kid.

Cute episode but it's just another short story episode with a character I don't really care about. Next week's preview looks like it'll start an interesting new arc so that's exciting. The new OP/ED aren't that good honestly. Gintama hasn't has an amazing new OP in a while.

Fun episode with a classic Gintama story. Starts out hilarious with gag after gag and ends up with a heartfelt message.

I thought this episode was surprisingly touching, and way better than I thought it'd be...but still...

When we getting a Katsura-focused episode? He's just had bit parts lately, and hasn't really appeared much even before the hiatus.

Short stories like this are always the best part of Gintama.

Regarding on next arc, I'm not too keen on it when I read the manga, but I think it's because some of the Japanese references flew over my head. Hopefully the anime will make it clear.

And I can't not like Aqua Timez for the ED.
