White flag finally grew on me,
There are two CD slips. One has a DVD with a 36 minute 'making of' documentary. It also has the 16 page booklet, which isn't included in the standard edition (it has a link to an online version instead). There's also a code to access a hidden part of the Plastic Beach game. I think it also allows you to stream their Coachella performance.Nakazato said:

This album has really grown on me. Songs that I didn't really care for at first, now I love. It's fantastic.
One disappointment is Glitter Freeze. This song is BEGGING for Albarn to come in on it and give some awesome melody. This song could be the "Dare" of this album, a great dance club song. Instead it's almost all instrumental, wasted opportunity
I would also say the same about White Flag. Oh man, Albarn coulda killed it in the background at some points. Would have taken this song to another level.

Man this album really does take a few listens to "get it". The first time I heard Superfast Jellyfish I was like "WTF IS THIS", now I love it! :lol

White Flag is great, I still can't warm up to Sweepstakes or Broken though. All the rest of the tracks are fantastic.
And yes the Lou Reed song is brilliant, partly because of the fact that I keep picturing an animated Disney-like villain singing the song as if it were in the Lion King or something.

Sweepstakes and the Lou Read track I'm not exactly down on, White Flag is great outside of the disjointed rap parts.
With all the artists who recorded material for this album and weren't included, and given how high quality the material that did make the cut is, I am incredibly excited to see this phase's b-sides collection.
I believe I read that The Horrors recorded some material - I want to hear that so badly.

Ive listened to the whole album 3 times, the first run through I thought it was their worst album. But it has grown on me in a big way (moreso than any album in recent memory), and Im really starting to enjoy it. Stylo is probably my favorite track, and the only track I think is terrible is 'Some Kind of Nature'.

To be honest the album reminds me of the DJ Shadow "The Outsider" album in that it's sorta all over the map. I actually preferred all of the rap songs on Shadow's latest, but they really disrupt the cohesiveness of the album.

EDIT: just saw Himuro's sequencing thoughts. That's a big part of an album and I agree the album might be better rearranged with some songs taken out completely.

Had to make concessions for what was available, 69 Z28 when in the video its a SS Camero, and I couldn't put STYLO on the grill. Anyway if you have Forza 3 and you want the design its on my storefront for free, just look up STYLO.

After listening to the album for a couple of days I've come to the conclusion that this album is really good. Wow, what an astute observation I know. Songs like "Stylo," "Empire Ants," and "On Melonchaly Hill" will stay on heavy rotation in my most played list well into summer, and I'm sure I'll have other songs as favorites as time passes.
How does this album compare to other Gorillaz album's? Who cares. I'd like to think when you compare a Gorillaz album to something, it should be to everything else going on in the music scene at the moment. I'm 28, I understood your comparison, and to be fair to the other guy he was just using the references to say that it was the group's masterpiece (actually the guy cited OK, Computer). Just mentioning Plastic Beach next to any of those bands seems silly to me. White Album is all over the place, I agree.

Grabbed my copy today, I'm waiting until I can listen to it uninterrupted.

After listening to it constantly since I posted the NPR stream, I've found this album to be really depressing. It's kinda predicting a depressingly fake future, and then welcomes it as if being indoctrinated. Lot's of talk of 'natural' being forgot, and our inevitable 'plastic' future. I really don't think this album has much to do with blatant environmentalism so much as the concept of killing our old nature and accepting the overproduction. Despite the hate, Cloud of Unknowing, Some Kind of Nature, On Melancholy Hill, and Pirate Jet actually add the most to the themes of the album.
As someone who is not a big fan of Gorillaz beyond the singles, I like this album as a whole more than their previous attempts. Favorite tracks are White Flag (the instrumental sections are fantastic), Rhinestone Eyes, and Superfast Jellyfish. I think Rhinestone Eyes would have been a better choice for the single than Stylo, which in my opinion is the album's most cliche track.

Yeah, I think it's one of those tracks that people will overlook but I love its slow build. I wonder how much input MES had in it musically. It doesn't really sound like anything on the album but it's far from a normal Fall track, besides the repetition.
And I didn't know he was from Salford, but I don't really know much about Manchester besides that a ton of my favorite bands hail from there
I want to here this too, anything Rhys touches is gold.

I find both of the other remix's good for different reasons.
This one is kind of a pop/club version, which works well with the vocals.
This one, is more like something I would expect to be on a future album as an official remix.
Just started listening to this today. Fav tracks atm are Rhinestone eyes and Superfast Jellyfish. I thought Rhinestone eyes would be the single, the chorus beat is so fucking catchy!
Edit: just saw the music video. Bruce Willis wtf!! :lol The music video was good, but I think the song itself is kinda boring and too repetitive to be the first single.
BTW, Superfast Jellyfish is clearly going to be the next single. The cop drives through a billboard with the title of the song on it and the music video ends with them driving into the ocean.
