It's not necessarily a bad thing. If you're concerned about what they're seeing / experiencing, guide them through it. I don't blame parents for forbidding their kids from M rated games, but it's definitely not the only way to go.
I just wasn't allowed to watch R rated movies and play M rated games until I was in high school, so I guess it's weird to see someone that young being able to play it and having their parents buy it for them

How old were you when you first played GTA?

I think I was about that age when I played the original.
I was ten, but I was borrowing my friend's copy of it and my mom caught me playing it and I was in trouble for quite some time

Does anyone know if the game comes with a XBL Gold trial?

I wouldn't see why not, most big multiplayer games usually come with a trial

Giving an 11 year old a game with extremely adult themes seems like a good idea to you?

Yes, because if I gave my 11 year old son or daughter a M rated game, you bet your ass I'd make sure they know it's just a game. I'd trust them before I do such a thing.

Giving them the game: no problem

Complaining about said game corrupting your child after you let them play it: big problem

You guys realize there's full frontal nudity & sex scenes in this one, right? Have fun explaining that to your 11 year old.

If i cared, I'd be less worried about the sex and more worried about the murder and violence

I'm sure they will get it to you for Tuesday, if not you could always pick one up from a shop and return the late one. They are really good with returns as long as it's unopened.

Edit: Oh shit ^
Just contacted them and they told me to rest assured it will be dispatched before the release date. I guess that means on Monday at this point. You know if Amazon.uk ships orders on Sundays too? Forgot to ask.

I think you are forgetting what it's like to be 11, 11 year olds boy or girl know how sex works if they go to a public school. Or at least a general idea.

I was waking up to watch the adult channels on our TV around that age. I can only imagine the trouble I'd get in if I had a computer and internet or a smartphone/tablet at that age.

I believe Tesco are sending them all out on Monday 1st Class.

Ugh, yeh just found a tweet from them, 'We have been given instructions from Rockstar to dispatch orders on the 16th and we'll endeavour to get it to you on the 17th'.

Nothing new there ofcourse, but tesco really don't need to be in bed with Rockstar, they're gunna shift ALOT of copies in the UK.

and endeavour? really? They are putting their faith in Royal Mail, of which i don't have much myself.

He's most likely seen a lot worse already via TV and the internet.

True, but you're essentially acting as an enabler by giving them the game rather than them finding out on their own. I absolutely don't think the game will corrupt anyone or anything like that, but I don't think parents should willingly buy their kids this game at that age.

I played the og gtas around that age, its up to the parent to actively decide if the child is mature enough to handle it.

Just buy your 11 year old a pack of smokes. Fuck it, they would find out about it anyway. Right?

Lol, I was like 5-6 when I was playing Doom, Wolfenstein, Mortal Kombat etc. Heck I was 7 when I saw R-rated movies and films. Nothing wrong with it. Just raise your kids to be good people. I knew early on I was playing games, that this isnt something you should ever do etc.

You can't even compare GTA V to GTA 1.

There isn't fully-rendered 3D nudity in GTA, there's barely any swearing (well, there's barely any voice acting, mostly just text), the graphics are... top-down 2D sprites. Hardly a realistic depiction of violence in the original game. C'mon.

There's a rather significant difference between cigarettes and games.

Hint: One has several proven negative health impacts. The other doesn't.

Hell not only when I was a kid did I play M rated games and see R rated movies, my mom straight up offered to buy me playboys. She would rather she get them for me then some old used one from some kid at school.

As a parent all you have to do is talk to your kids and gauge if they can handle something or not.

I do understand where you're coming from, but this statement is a little overdramatic. Shooting virtual cops and looking at virtual boobies is not the same as give your kids addictive and dangerous cigarettes.

Remember this when an 11 year old boy is calling you racist names on GTAO. =D

Welcome to Xbox Live haha

It's inevitable.

Parenting is unique from kid to kid, and it's up to the parent to make decisions on their children's welfare based on where that kid's maturity levels are. It's not our place to make blanket statements about "Bad parenting".

Thank god for cool parents.

I'd say kids that arent allowed to watch or play inappropriate things turn out much worse than kids that do.

You can't really compare the old GTA games to this one since it's been confirmed that it has
full frontal nudity and sex scenes
. I mean, games like Doom and other violent games didn't have anything like that.

I dunno about you guys but there's no way I would let my kid play a game with that kind of content. Even if he had seen all the porn in the world, me buying the game for him is admitting that I'm okay with it, when I'm really not ( at his age).

That's just my opinion.

It's not purely a matter of opinion if we're talking about relativism. Having the game world respond to player action is more engaging than getting no response, even if that's not what you care about. Police/general violent responses forcing the player to react accordingly will make player choice seem more substantial than if the player didn't have to consider what actions they make at a given moment. Whether it feels more substantial might not matter to you though.

If I said it's "better" than no police response, then that's a matter of opinion. And you could turn off police in IV's free roam, so the same will likely be able to be done here. Considering the importance R*'s placed on the online mode, just about everything you ca do in single player can be done in multi, so that's good for you.

How do you turn off police in gta iv? Didn't know that was possible.

But if the player isn't in the mood to fight the police and would rather engage himself by pushing NPCs down the stairs or starting fights, then the player's choices in those situations are going to feel boring for him.

The problem is not just about dealing with the cops and not dealing with the cops. There are activities, some player made, that can be done without the usage of a threat looming on their every action. It would be all well and good if the player didn't have anything else to do besides deal with the ramifications, but that's not true in the least.

If anything, my actions are limited and I am forced to respond to the threats that come form my actions, you dig? Like, I have to deal with this piece of the pie that I don't want but I don't have a choice. Clean your plate and such.

I guess that's isn't to say that you can't do those activities, but the enjoyment levels for me are extremely limited when you can be killed by a bunch of SWAT dudes. I honestly forgot about Free Roam, but that was just an online portion, correct?

I guess the online portion may be where I need to stay, so long as the content carries over (last time, you couldn't enter buildings and such so it felt kinda barebones).

So nudity=bad violence=ok

Okay, buy your 11 year old a Brazzers subscription.

What kind of fool pays for porn? There's plenty of legit free sites out there. Plus I'd rather my hypothetical 11 year old learn about these things in an environment where I can provide appropriate context than "go underground", as it were.

This is true, I was ten when I played GTA1, but if you speak to people who were twenty when Doom came out, they thought it was scary, I remember thinking RE1 was scary at the time, even though it's laughable now. People extrapolate a lot from those experiences, regardless of their presentation.

Watching Heat or The Town isn't going to warp a child's mind, beyond that, it's up to the individual parent/s to decide based on their child.

My dad is a gamer so he knew what's up and he always kept me from violent games. Of course I had my fair share of GTA experience at friends places but at home I didn't had those games. I was 16 when I bought my first 18+ (I think it's rated M in the US?) game. Of course I hated my dad for doing that because most of my friends could play whatever they wanted. But looking back on it I can understand to some extend. I myself would probably lift the band on violent games a little earlier, like at 14. But a ten year old killing people, visiting stripclubs and what not isn't normal imo.

And that statement of yours doesn't really go for me. I ended up going to university and being a proper kid. I didn't turn out so bad :p

Anyone doing a midnight pickup and planning on staying up overnight?

Haven't done this since GTA: SA, so it seems fitting to have an all night session. 2 days!
