I guess you're not going the freighter route because I didn't have any trouble there

So (voluntarily not spoilering it), the bottom line is that the more expensive crews offer the best returns, despite their price?

yes. Never pick the low skilled ones.

Wow.. erm..

I just got to THAT torture scene.

I really do not know how I feel about that. They kind of went a bit too far and it genuinely made me feel bad, but at least that part's over.

Cringing the whole time.
I don't understand this. You've been murdering people for hours.

Yes, less expensive crews = lower succes rate. Which can result in accidents etc in which case you get less money.

I think the police response is way, way better than in previous GTA games.

I had three stars with cops swarming me and at one point I managed to break line of sight with the cruisers and choppers, drove my ass behind a factory building, got out of the car and took cover behind a nearby dumpster. My heart was racing because two police cruisers passed through the street and a few on foot cops were checking out the car I abandoned and searching the surroundings literally a few dozen feet from me.

And the second right before this single shotgun-wielding on-foot cop was about to check behind the dumpster, the search was called off and they left the scene.

It's great. Actually hiding somewhere works like a charm.
Hah sounds like the same thing that happen to me yesterday, yeah the system si much better.

People are a little to festiveness and call 911 at anytime though.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
One of the most over-reactioned moments in gaming. I heard people say they felt ill, some people quit the game, some people complained to R*...

It was a weak scene, didn't cringe or anything at all. If you've seen movies like Saw and whatever, then this shouldn't be a big deal at all. Heck, even the self-torture scene in Heavy Rain was MUCH worse.

Was driving in a circle with the cops for some minutes for a trophy until my car started to lose oil and stopped driving after 1 min, didn't know about that, best game.

It definitely had a more of a "haha, oh snap dude!" effect on me rather than anything actually negative. I literally can not get how people would get ill or whatever thanks to it after killing hundreds and hundreds of people.

Just wanted to play the last 10 mission and finish the story and realized my 360 decided to shit the bed. Fucking RROD. Wouldn't be that terrible if I hadn't put all my fucking save games on Microsoft's shitty proprietary HDD... Now I can't even borrow my buddies 360 to finish it because he has a slim. So pissed right now, think I'll just watch a walkthrough and wait till the PC version comes out.

My thoughts exactly.

That's not the point.

Shooting people in the game isn't nearly as graphic as the torture scene was.
Yeah, people also get a lot more squeamish about Saw than Commando, even though the death toll in the second one is fifteen times higher. One is comedic, the other uncomfortable.

(And in case of the latter, all these people are obviously very bad, whereas with Trevor, you are the bad person)

In one of the missions Trevor had to work at the Los Santos Port. He had a beanie hat on. Can you buy that somewhere? I looked awesome with the beanie hat, dark glasses and big ass beard.

Thats not saying much though is it? "If you watch torture porn for fun then this won't disturb you."

OK, I guess.

Graphic? It's like a puppet show version of Zero Dark Thirty.
Attachment to the characters, player controls dictating the actions and some empathy are all you need to foment an emotional reaction. Of course that reaction will vary for different people.

What the hell, haha. Just finished maybe the weirdest GTA mission ever.

Mid-game spoilers, few hours after I met Trevor
that Yoga mission LOL. Love that song that plays as Michael is flying over Los Santos.

I'm not saying that it shouldn't of been there, i'm just saying I felt slightly disturbed but got over it pretty quickly.

I think you had the intended reaction.

We need to remember the difference in violence and depicted violence. Because there's a pretty big fucking difference. There was more graphic torture scenes in a George RR Martin book.

Those things are all true of every other crime in the game, many of which involve actually murdering people, something most people would agree is worse than torturing a dude.

Like I said, I mostly found it disturbing as I never watch torture movies or read books about it, so we all vary on how we view things.

Like I said, it's not a major issue, it just made me feel unsettled.

Worse for the player? I wouldn't count on it. There's a telling difference between putting down an enemy, especially waves of them meant to kill you, and
repeatedly mutilating a harmless person who continually begs you for mercy.

But this is spoiler territory. The fact remains that some people will have strong reactions to some parts of the game, and that actually relieves me to hear.

Nope

Do the heists with the best crew. The last heist alone with get you 22 milion a character. Also, doing the Epsilon missions with Michael can get you 2,1 mil.

thank you

Any success with Cluckin' Bell?

I did bombed some of the trucks, but it didn't affect Taco Bomb

So, has anyone actually figured out stock manipulation yet? Think I'm going to try going to a construction site, invest in the company's competitor and kill all the builders.

You're not actually given a choice though, not you as the player, or you as in Trevor. I thought Micheal's part of that mission was considerably worse morally speaking.

Not having a choice makes it worse. The player still has to act out the motions. You do choose the method of mutilation and how it gets applied, all while being instructed to manage the victim's tolerances. Its pretty brutal, even as just an idea.

Good points though. The whole damn thing is unsettling.

I'm fairly certain that was the goal of the scene/scenario. $1B worth of game sales, every single one of those people will experience that scene (we can assume) and hopefully feel the same uneasiness.

I am quite a fan of how blunt and obvious this game is regarding its agendas. From the regular and broad denouncements of vanity, materialism, and narcissism to the more specific bits (not really a spoiler, just a small bit of script from a mission) like
the conversation between Trevor and Franklin involving Trevor spewing common mass generalizations of young adults in the US - entitled, no work ethic, weak compared to the previous generations, and basically at fault for all our issues.
I love Franklin's response because I think it's pretty accurate: young adults want to work, they put a lot of effort into just finding work to be done, and when they recognize an opportunity that doesn't make logical sense, they avoid investing time there in order to put it towards efforts that have a reasonable cost-benefit ratio.

On the topic of the torture, so far that mission's ending is
the most humane/good I have seen Trevor be towards another human in the game.
I think that's an important detail considering Trevor's personality.

I think that was really strange. I think it wasn't actually about being humane, more like his disdain for Steve.

Made an agreement with another GAF member, refused to honor it because he was broke, but then had no problem continuing to buy video games.
Doi have yo win the race side missions with franklin? Or can I skip it and still get the other side missions?

As a person who has never been been offended by game content I have to say I thought the torture scene was a bit rough. Not sure why. I understand that sounds like a strange position to take given everything else in the game.

That said, I won't complain to R* or stop playing the game. Nor did I feel ill like some other people claim to. There was just something about it *shrug*.

Perhaps it's because in these games I always try and play as good as you can given the circumstances, returning stolen money rather than keep it in random encounters and so on. So when they forced you to torture the guy, as I player, I didn't want to do it. Cause it wasn't the way I would choose to play. Kind of like how I always choose to spare people in Splinter Cell and so on.

In the end, I don't think it's a big deal, but I can understand why's some people aren't too keen on it despite the rest of the game. Eh...

Some funny stuff happens in the game.

Working on getting Michael and family back together. Michael whacks the Fabio looking trainer with a laptop and the family proceeds to therapy. Nothing really gets accomplished and the therapist says "this is all the time we have" while Michael and Amanda are at each others throats. So they go outside and Michael asks if they can give it a shot. She agrees and the family walks back to the car.

The kicker is looking at the family walking to the car which I just trashed from my driving on the way there. Somehow it felt so right. There was no hood, the glass was all broke and it had scratches everywhere. I collectively lol'd here.

Game gets better and better as you go. Around 50% and I've been strictly story and no side missions yet.

I want to know if I can skip all The race side missions and still get the restof them ? Or do I need to complete them to unlock more side missions?

I think the torture scene is uncomfortable. It's not really about there being torture, or the fact that you kill lots of other people throughout the game. It's less a matter of morality and more of a fact that certain things are harder to watch than others when they increase in detail, and if you're forced to actually interact with it, it can add to the distaste. I find the torture sequence distasteful to play through just like I find God of War's boss QTEs extremely distasteful because of how much they relish in maximizing pain and suffering on others. It's just gross.
