Grandia 3 for PS2

Deepthroat said:
Haha take it easy guys. I was just expecting something major. I dont see Grandia 3 as something that big. I wanted FFVIII-2 dammit :(

Wanting an FFVIII sequel WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

Grandia 1 had it's charms, but routinely spitfed so much contrived filler just to get total playtime up to spec that it really sapped away the fun, the pacing spiraled out of control for about 20-30 hours in the midgame. "Less is More" and such and such....

Grandia 2 tightened things up, and provided state of the art visuals and wonderful music, but dogged on the combat and character.

G Xtreme was just fugly in both visuals and audio. That 45 minute intro was a total trainwreck and was the last I saw of that game. My loss it seems given how wonderful many claim the actual game to be.

I LOVED Grandia 2 (I sadly missed out on the first - I know, I know).

What's stopping you from playing the original? I don't hate G2 at all... it's actually quite fun.. but it's still a far cry from Grandia, my favorite game of all time.

Oh and Grandia II had great VAing... at least in the Jp ver. Konishi Hiroko & Iwao Junko <3 <3

Wow, that looks great. I don't know how you could say it doesn't feel like Grandia. The style is in line with what the Grandia games have been, just the color palette isn't that of a pre-school art period.

You Yoshinari's designs (in both design and art) are looking GREAT too.

"Has tear in eye" wow it looks beautiful. As mentioned earlier the best part of Grandia II was the battle system. Im assuming this game is following suit with the battle system or is there any mentione of this at all?

Hmm.. now Square, let us know your release timeline
You now have 4 big titles, now what order?

Kingdom Hearts 2 (Arguably the biggest)
Grandia 3
Final Fantasy 12
Dragon Quest 8

wow. but the thing is, grandia 2 looked really good for it's time as well. the problems with the game were everything besides graphics, music and battle system.
but hey, as long is it's unlike 2, as in has good pacing, interesting story and interesting dungeons, sign me up.
looks gorgeous.

Wow, simply beautiful

*adds grandia 3 on rpg list to buy*

Square-enix will eat my wallet this year, FFXII, Radiata stories, DQ8, FF3, and now grandia 3

Just how am i supposed to find time for all this? :o

- As if Final Fantasy XII, Phantasy Star Universe and Kingdom Hearts II weren't enough, PS2-owning role playing fans have even more to look forward to in 2005. Set to debut in the upcoming issue of Japan's Famitsu magazine is Grandia III, the next entry in the GameArts RPG series that started on the Saturn.

We'll have a full report on the game once we have the magazine in our hands, but here are a few tantalizing details that we've heard through various reliable sources. Grandia III takes the series into the skies for an adventure featuring, as its hero, a 16-year-old adventurer called Yuuki. Yuuki will be joined by at least two other characters, Alfeena and her brother, Emerius. These three will travel across the seas, continents and through the skies, making use of ships and planes.

The game's battle system is said to be an evolution over the semi real-time battles of the previous games. Characters and enemies are placed on a time bar that dictates when they'll be moving, although the interface has apparently been changed so the time bar is now circular. New features include counter attacks, cancel attacks, and even aerial combos.

In somewhat of a twist, it turns out that Square Enix will be publishing the title. While this isn't too surprising considering that Enix published Grandia Xtreme, an offshoot title that focused on battles, it is a bit strange seeing the Square and GameArts names on the same game, since the two companies were considered RPG development rivals during the Saturn/PlayStation days.

In addition to the report in Famitsu, Square Enix has revealed that it will make available the first video footage of Grandia IIi at its website from between 4/28 and 5/8. That's a few weeks off yet, so we'll post a reminder once the footage actually does show up.

We'll have more on Grandia III shortly.

How did I miss this thread before? Now THIS was the sort of news I was looking for all day.

Is that being done by the in-game engine? The background is astounding and makes me skeptical, but hte little character brings me back and makes me think it is in game.

In-game. As someonme else said before, it's the best looking game on PS2. Damn it looks better than FFXII or any SE game.

Grandia II already had these.

blame Anoop :P

It's in game but I doubt those are all real-time 3d objects. I think the foreground with the guy is 3d and even to the arc thingy on the right, but I'm 99% certain the city in the background is some kind of a pre-rendered with animation still like Baten Kaitos backgrounds.

Doesn't Square Enix still hold those 15% that they (Enix) acquired back when Grandia X was announced?

This game looks like like concept art realized in 3d. I didn't know that day would come so soon. I can't wait to play this.

Basically they were acceptable... for a videogame. Which means that by regular voice standards (movies, animated tv shows) it still pretty much sucks.

Yeah, it's too bad they couldn't get people like Cam Clarke, Jodi Benson, Jennifer Hale, or others who actually have worked in television or movies.

It'd be really neat if they could do something Skies of Arcadia-ish with this..

Can't forget the voice director and, in some cases, the coding as well. I'm still surprised at how many people forget this. Terrible direction can make even top-notch voice-actors sound terrible (see Mark Hamill).

True, true. I thought that Grandia II's VA was pretty good. I'll replay the ending tonight and see if my memory isn't tricking me.
