Finished it a while ago. I'll write up impressions later. Basically, I think Kat is a good protagonist.

To be honest, I'm rather impressed that I didn't get physically ill to the point of throwing up again for the latter half of the game. The colour balance in those areas probably helped, though there were some points towards the end that made me kind of dizzy and I had to stop playing for an hour or two before picking it back up again.

Now to try for that platinum... which may take a while given how this game makes me feel health-wise.

I'm not sure, but I think finishing challenge mission give you gems and I think that counts. I don't really hunting gems often but I got 40k before last story mission when I'm finishing challenge mission.
Thanks. I was gonna ask about this since I didn't get the 20K trophy, even, but I didn't do challenges, so I guess it'll come eventually.

Only just started Episode 8. Game is charming as ever but getting silver and gold medals for the challenges are well....challenging heh. Is it better to wait until post game when Kat is more leveled up before tackling those?

So apparently I've been doing the free races all wrong. Instead of using x to speed up when you want to go somewhere, using the gravity kick to get to your location is much more efficient. Anyways, gold medal on all challenges is complete!

get off your couch and play it standing. you'll look ridiculous, but it really help to let you control it better. the hardest challenge isn't even sliding challenge imo, it's the airboat race challenge in the last town. I got lucky and passed that with 20 milisecond to spare for the gold rank.

most challenge you don't actually have to be perfect. you can afford a couple mistake here and there and still make the gold rank

You can push up on the dpad to straighten the camera up, which is very useful. If you hold R down when you're shifting as well, if you hit a wall (not the floor) You'll push off instead of land and keep in a hovering state to change direction. Those two save a lot of time for the challenges.

I need only two (or three?) more gold medals to get the Platinum. Both involving the Stasis Field... I hate those challenges, I can't go past bronze >_<

the longer you press O the bigger your field are and you grabbed more objects. if it's the challenge where you have to escort people, you can try to grab 1 guy, go to another person, drop the one you already have near the 2nd person and grabbed both person at once. this way you can be more efficient and no need to back and forth too much just to get 1 or 2 people

o_O Mind=blown
Thanks, will try.

So I finally started this up yesterday and got to the fourth chapter. If it carries on along this trajectory of awesomeness, then Gravity Rush is my GOTY for sure. Everything about it is just so darn charming, winning, and borderline magical. It's the kind of game one plays as a child, becomes subequently swept away with and is then cherished for all remaining years with huge swathes of nostalgia.

Or maybe I've spoken too soon and it'll turn shit halfway through or something.

What.

Dammit.

It doesn't, it stays consistently great throughout :D

Really enjoying the game so far, it has its issues but it's unique and fun which is what I want from a new IP.

How many chapters are there in the game?

So.. the third rare Navi... how the hell am I supposed to beat that Super Bitch? I'm not finding any efficient ways of evading its projectiles (other than staying far away and moving all the time, but that's unefficient) and it feels like I'm not getting a moment's peace from them, at least not enough time to position myself well for a kick.

Yup, I’m up to chapter 4 too, and this is exactly how I’m feeling.

Although I think Journey might still be my GOTY at the moment.

Ok i need some help with Chapter 12.

I am looking for a letter and i just drop below the city. Now i am at some tree like structure and the navi doesnt help at all. It seems to point in the tree. I circled around it 2-3 times but i cant find where i am supposed to go and there is no map.

Have you tried reloading the autosave and trying again?
At that point you are suppose to keep heading down, jump down some more and see if that helps it update possibly?

Played from chapter 12 up to chapter 15 or so in one sitting last night... could not put the Vita down until it was begging me to charge the battery. This game keeps finding new ways to floor me.

Level up Evade, Gauge, and Gravity Kick as high as they can go. Best way to dodge the balls-o-death is to use the evade (flick the screen). With Evade leveled up enough, you should be able to do this consecutively enough times that the attack pretty much can't hit you if you see it coming.

At the bottom there's an opening where you go inside. The point should be trying to take you to the entrance, in steps since it's really, really far.

The plot and camera are awful and the controls aren't great but I'm still having a lot of fun and Kat is so cute

The plot is all over, but the direction itself is surprisingly inviting. Kat is really amiable, the art direction works, the music is strong, and the fiction itself is kind of cool. But yeah, the story beats are definitively "whatever."

pretty much.

I find the sliding mechanic to be super buggy. Did they not test this move before??

Also, I noticed this in the OP and the box art, but do you unlock the ability to do the gravity thing without turning into glowy vein girl?

didn't for me :) . can't imagine another release bumping this from being my goty...

when you say 'charming, winning, & borderline magical', you're talking 'aesthetics', which, for me, is the element that transcends them all when it comes to what makes some games transcendent. games like wind waker, okami, & the ueda games stand above & beyond the rest for me, not so much for their story, or gameplay, but for how well all the elements work together in creating a memorable, unlike-any-other, over-all experience. & gravity rush, for me, has that special quality, in spades...

(tho, obviously, aethetics doesn't rank too high when it comes to some reviewers, who seem almost incapable of even noticing, never mind appreciating, them :) ...)

Thanks that helped. Things are getting freaky :p

Use the Vita as a steering wheel. Works exactly as you'd expect.
except that Kat tends to get all funky around stairs and what not, and sometimes i end up sliding up buildings if i'm near them.

Also doesn't help (for me) that the game recalibrates your accelerometer if you accidentally let go of both sides which screwed me up a few times on the challenge (which was a joke after I upgraded slide a bit).

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
My copy finally fucking arrived!

Wow, music is blowing me away, game also feels like such a breath of fresh air. The presumably 'made up' world language is also helping to give a really gigantic Panzer Dragoon vibe which is always welcomed!

Pretty much--well, save for the plot kind of. This game makes me feel all awful, and I fight with the camera and controls a lot (my bf said if there was aerial combat in the final battle, that the aerial combat would be my final boss instead of the actual final boss because I got so frustrated with it)... but there's something about this game that's so fun and kind of addictive.

It helps that Kat is a decent character to boot. And I like Syd.

Totally late, but yeah, if you're intending to Gold all of the challenges, it's best to wait until postgame and level up her skills when the level caps are mostly off (there are still level caps, but you can reasonably Gold them then).

So, I finished Gravity Rush last night, and got the platinum trophy today. My end time was 25:35:52, which includes the military DLC trophies. The hardest thing in the game was getting gold medals in the challenges, and finding all of the travelers. I almost went online for a guide to find the travelers, but I decided against it. I didn't need any guide for the rest of the game, so I just decided to find them all by myself. So, with that said, this game is really amazing, beautiful, and fun. I had a blast playing it, more so than I thought I would before I started it up. I love how huge the game is, and just flying around in the air to get to places, or sliding around, is so exciting. The story was interesting to me, and the characters are very likable. I could go on and on about this game. I'm just going to say that this game is my GOTY, and I really hope the game gets a sequel. Hear that Sony? I really want a sequel to Gravity Rush.

Speaking of travelers: when you enter an area the game shows how many travelers there are in the top right. Is that number refering to how many travelers you've already found in that area, or how many you have yet to find?

With an ending like that, they better make a sequel! Man this game is awesome, I want more dammit :(

It shows how many of the total 16 you've found already.

Oh crap, I think I've just discovered a very interesting glitch. I have to see if I can replicate it (it's in chapter
18
)

Basically what this glitch does is let you explore the entire world with no limitations. You can go up, down, outside the boundaries of the map and you'll never be teleported back to Hekseville.

Here's a couple of pics of me going outside the boundaries of the map. I didn't go any further because I hadn't saved in a long time and I was afraid the game would crash on me.

Outside of the city:

Seeing how far down the pillar goes:
7416792676_6a2bf2b86d_z.jpg

Kat also goes completely invisible and if you die the game over screen doesn't appear (you have to quit the game):

I'll try to replicate the glitch once I finish the game. I wonder what hidden things can be found this way, I love glitches like these :D

Just finished the game, 17 hours on the clock (mostly aimless exploring). Left very underwhelmed by the ending arc, and there are more dangling plot threads than a millipede has legs, but still had a blast. Definitely hope a sequel is coming.

Wow, just wow, at the girl that asks you for the letter, then doesn't even care about it when you actually manage to bring it back. Also, Kat's "house" sure got crowded by the end of the game. You'd think they could just get an apartment or something.

Started the Military DLC too, since I got it with my preorder. The outfit is rather cute, though I still don't see myself choosing it over the default.

The game seems to be shifting to mainly aerial combat which is bad because the aerial combat is awful.

:/

Dammit, game. I'm trying to love you!

Having just finished the game, yeah, the kick is really a pain sometimes. Especially when you miss... then it's a scramble to get the camera lined up again to try for another attack. Against moving enemies, it becomes doubly frustrating at times.
---

Random question about the story... I guess without saying anything specific, are some of the questions that are left open at the end supposed to be addressed in the DLC? Or are they trying to set up a sequel?

The DLC (at least the Military one) feels more like content that takes place during the events of this game, so I'd guess no. Think of it like the cut chapters from Assassin's Creed II

Ah, okay. There seems to be an interesting backstory/mythology that they just don't get into in the game proper... so I suppose I hope this does well enough for them to do a sequel at some point.
