Gravity Rush |OT| C’est la Vita

What conditions ? I downloaded the pack and I'm on mission 19 but there's nothing on my map...

The military DLC is very late-game, but everything should be available at mission 19. Make sure you're checking the mission log (middle button on the left when you have the map pulled up) - all the DLC shows up in the third column there.

is there a bug related to playtime resetting? my save says i've only played 40 minutes now.

It either only tracks your current session, or it resets after completing the game.

Just finished the chapter where you first use the sliding technique. Please don't tell me I have to use that technique often in later chapters, I don't want this game to be ruined....

There aren't really any sequences where its use is required outside a certain area. Just remember - steering wheel, not balance toy.

Eh... for the main story, not really. I think the way they introduce sliding is kinda bad. The twisting of the path is confusing so I just flew through it, lol.

The unlimited power challenge that comes with the Maid DLC seems a little excessive in its gold requirements, especially when you consider how early (relative to the main story) these missions become available.

I had maxed out my meteor shower technique by that point, but it still got a little tight at the end.

No, the game will pretty much never ask you to use it again. However, if you plan on taking a serious swing at the challenges, you'll have to learn to tolerate it.

The sliding is almost required for most races (and of course, definitely required for the sliding races).

Turn off the gyro camera controls. It helps a lot.

Quick question. When you finish the game can you still play the side/challenge quests?

I'm about 2 hours in and absolutely loving this. Already dreaming of a PS4 sequel...

Yes, the challenges are actually much more manageable once you've leveled up your abilities.

Kat is so cute I had to break down and buy the DLC. She is adorable in these new outfits, and I was pleasantly surprised by the missions. They're quite creative and beefier than I expected at the $3.99 price tag. This game is a reason to own a Vita. It's really grown on me.

Wha!?

I thought it works freakin' great and love using it when I got a clear path

...and I usually hate tilt shit

To be honest, I actually like using the gyro. I don't use it on its own, but more so complementary to the second analog stick. Sometimes I might slightly overshoot while panning the camera, and I'll just tilt the Vita for correction.

Yeah, I guess i could just learn to get better with the analog stick for the camera.

I'm LOOOVIN' THIS by the way

Also, I think the opening music when you start a new game is some of the best i've heard this gen

Soundtrack is just flat out amazing in general

ditto. Great for little quick adjustments.

I do wish the default camera was better though. Feels too loose and flat out bad when panning upward

I can't keep the Vita perfectly straight when steering it and since you have no other form of camera control while sliding, you're basically screwed if the gyro decides to flip the camera up and point toward the sky or whatever.

It's fine during the other parts of the game, but during the slides it just breaks the game for me.

I'm having a hard time earning a gold medal in the Rift Plane Unlimited Time Attack (Maid DLC pack).

Can anyone give me some advice? :p
You need to use the special attack that throws rocks at all the enemies. Since there are so many mobs around, it's the most effective.

You also need to clear out enemies pretty quickly because you can time out if you take too long to kill Nevi. You want to keep building time bonuses.

Of course, this is much easier at the post game when you're all leveled up.

Waiting for the last DLC next week, I hope there are more dlcs, also replay missions patch is needed.

man..this is my GOTYso far.

why Sony treated it like a random minis game? where is the ads and marketing? the game deserve more light and attention ffs.

I should have listened to you guys earlier. Picked this up over the weekend and I'm loving it so far (just finished Chapter 9). The world is really cool and traversal has never been better or easier in an open world environment.

It's the best word traversal since Crackdown 1 probably. Heck, I even flew around looking for gems for a couple of hours after I beat the game.

Haven't had enough time to devote to this game, around chapter 3 now. Absolutely one of the best games this year for me. Anyone else a Studio Ghibili Fan? I was watching Castle in the Sky yesterday and the atmosphere of the movie reminds me of the game.

Creepy, I was watching Totoro while I was playing this game two days ago...

Well it isn't a well known brand, for a system that isn't selling that great, and the game is what, a month and half old at this point?
Most games don't continue ads that long after launch, let alone smaller newer IPs.

Hopefully the game will have long legs and while not sell a ton, will slowly be picked up by those who do get a Vita.

To me, I would be hard pressed to find a game whose traversal comes close to the openness of just Cause 2, the size, how you can get around, it was awesome.

GR was great, but I would love to see how they take it further in a sequel with new abilities and ways to take advantage of the gravity powers.

Thanks!

Finally got all trophies (main game+DLC ). It's the first game I made a serious effort to get all trophies. I guess I just didn't want it to end! lol

Well, I'll post my feelings as of Chapter 8 here, since noone in the Vita thread seems to care, lol.

So, after getting a bunch of other games since getting my Vita like a week ago, I finally go back to Gravity Rush... Kat's so cute :) *ahem* No, really, this game feels so great! A heroine that has an edge without being "bitchy", a story that has some snark, without being just stupid, characters that are written with personality, without making you constantly want to ask how they could be so stupid, or so mean...

It's just so... It's the kind of thing I feel for on Dreamcast, those games that were still very Japanesey, very "wonder and adventure" like, without all the tiresome angst and grit gaming is so facinated with now-a-days.

And the controls! They're not an issue at all. I'm not one who likes "gimmick" controls, but everything in G-Rush just works. Even the sliding.

I'm also happy with the size of the world. Going from chapters 3 to 3nd of 8 in once sitting, I was surprised by the variety. I was prepared to go through placed that were just... CITY, so imagine how I felt when I saw "more", to say the least. It's like an open world, but without all the boring filler areas which never see any action.

The Vita was worth it, to get in on this charming little game. Glad to be able to support it.

I agree with the fact that I haven't had this much fun in an open word since Crackdown 1. (Wasn't it mentioned that Crackdown inspired GR?) I think the Vita is kinda perfect for the game too; It's rare that I saw "I prefer this on a portable", but I enjoy sliding (I'm the only one!), and it's controls seem like they take just the proper advantage of the system for Finishers on bosses, comic panel manipulation, and menu use.

Have to again say I'd love for her to be part of the Vita representation on PSABR. Would be one of the first characters since Parappa I can say I'd actually be excited to see...

Aw man... I love this game but there's nothing to do since I got my platinum. Seriously contemplating DLC, but $4 for an hour sounds like a gyp. I don't wanna watch a video to make my decision either, because that would take away from my enjoyment if I bought it... AUGGGGHHH :C

It's no more a gyp than a movie ticket. Heck, most movie tickets are probably in the $7/hr range these days.

And none of those movies have Kat.

ugh i really hope this gets a sequel. i'm listening to the soundtrack right now and it's just AMAZING. this game deserves more recognition.

Finally got the time to start playing it (along with Rayman Origins).

In the beginning of Chapter 3 (IIRC, it's when you have to go fix the fountain) currently. The game sure is impressive from a artistic perspective to say the least.

Still getting used to the gravity controls, though.

EDIT: Also loving the French (or psuedo-Frency maybe) voices.

The soundtrack is freaking great. I really hope this does well enough for a sequel, and has some legs with its Vita sales.

I'm nearing the end of the game and I can't help but feel that it takes a downward turn
on chapter 13 or so when you start descending the pillar to the children village
. Up until taht point, things felt realtively balanced in terms of ability progression, but then
they just start throwing huge amounts of gems at you and dramatically increase the focus on air combat, which is the weakest form of combat in the game
. There's a 'destroy all the monsters' challenge in, I think, the downtown section where you end up grinding along the side of the trail rail and it sections monsters in such a way that it makes use of most of Kats abilities and traversal in tandem. The reason I bring it up is because that's really the high point of the combat in Gravity Rush, when it's blending all of your abilities, and that seems to have narrowed now.

For some reason the
new version of the city that you return to
just has little of the magic that it had for me previously. I'm hoping that it ends strongly, because I was truly loving this game up to the point mentioned above.

Gravity Rush, candidate for some of the worst missions ever in an open world game.

I assume I am at the end (Mission 20), and I've been doing the same boring stuff since the game started.

I'm also going to nominate this for the most disappointing game in recent memory. Really frustrating that a game with a lot of potential turned out like this.

I just got done beating the game and while I agree that most of the game revolves around the same objectives that didn't get in the way of me enjoying the game. Hell, right now I have it in my top 3 for GOTY. I think what kept the game fresh (at least for me) was the story which got really interesting towards the end and the whole unlocking new parts of the city as the game progressed.

Like I said before the story parts in the later chapters kept me pushing to finish the game although in the end I was a bit disappointed in some things:
for example we never found out who Kat is, why she woke up in Hekseville one day all of the sudden, what was her real purpose, etc. Maybe this is answered in the DLC or maybe I just missed some key parts of the story
.

Nothing of what you're looking for even touched on in the DLC. I'd rather a sequel than more DLC anyway.

Yeah, a sequel would be awesome. Regarding the confusing plot, I found a discussion on the gamefaqs boards where they analyze the story and was really interesting.

I would agree, since by the end I was ready for Kick the Glowing Red Spot: The Game to be over. They really didn't come up with much of anything interesting for Kat to do.

Caved in and bought the digital version, and I'm having a blast playing this! Just went down very, very, very far to
the city of lost children
and battled a whole passel of Nevi. I absolutely love the backgrounds and the music. The city textures have a somewhat Vagrant Story-ish feel, while the music and atmosphere are more reminiscent of Resonance of Fate.

One important thing that I only just now figured out: the instructions on how to steer while sliding are misleading. The game tells you to "tilt" the Vita to steer. I tried that and kept right on going in a straight line. I thought I had disabled something in the Vita's master settings and closed the game to go look for it, and couldn't find anything. I wasn't using sliding very much, so I sort of gave up on it and went back to enjoying the rest of the story, skipping the challenges.

Then while experimenting with sliding again, I finally figured it out. You have to rotate the Vita, not tilt it. That is, if you're normally staring down at a rectangular screen, after rotating it you should be staring at an off-center. Do not tilt the surface so that your left hand is lower than your right hand, or vice versa.

Is it just me, or was this a terrible choice of words?

"Tilt" implies that one side (or corner, or portion) of the playing surface is higher or lower than the rest. Pitching forward or backward, or rolling to one side, to use mechanics terms. The instructions are using the word "tilt" when they really mean "rotate". "Turn" would also have been a better word.

I shall have to chalk it up to the confusion that inevitably results from a gravity-free world. If it's difficult to even keep up and down straight when falling through the sky, how can you perceive movement of a little handheld box by us gravity-constrained mundanes?

Probably is poor wording. I think some people just corrected themselves by moving the system a few ways, whereas others literally just moved the system along one axis and thus got no results.

Finished the game a few days ago, it was enjoyable overall, all the gravity related gameplay was pretty fun but tend to becoming a bit repetitive over the end.
The ending was very dissapointing, it was just like they realized they won't have time to finish everything properly and make a giant mob appear out of nowhere.

I still lack a few trophies to get the platinum (one boss, the couple of ghosts and one challenge i missed) but the game isn't that good that i'll continue playing it after seeing the end.

Certainly not a GOTY and a bit dissapointing considering i mostly buy the Vita for this game but still a must have for all the Vita owners and all the gamers who would like to try a fresh new approach of the adventure genre.

People keep complaining about repetitive missions... but why? When you keep in mind that this is almost a release game for the system (and release games are never as polished / developed as games that come out later in the systems life), I actually find it surprisingly varied.

I like the structure of the fighting missions. They each have a course-style make to them, and it helps that it's more structured than "Just beat a bunch of infa-spawn enemies".

I'm saving most of the racing challenges until later. For me, Race / Driving missions are my least favorite in any open world, so I'll wait until I'm higher level, and more experienced.

I even enjoyed the few "escort" style saving missions I've done. It's all different enough from the main game, in that it doesn't feel too bad; if any thing, I set myself before a challenge, and play it like a mini-game when I get a quick break in my day.

At chapter 12 so far in the story, and I'm actually very impressed with how varied things have felt so far. Every location looks different, each boss battle has it's own gimmick and setting, And each town area actually feels worth visiting. It's more than just "Night town, day town", it's more like "Lava stage, Ruin World, Dusk town, Metropolis, Redlight District + School (What?!), Oddball Natural Cave formation, etc, etc".

Was I the only one who saw the previews of the game, and thought "Well, I'll be fighting in a lot of city scapes!"? Maybe it's because I wasn't so interested in the Vita at first, but the variety of design has easily exceeded my expectations, especially for an early game in the systems life. I love the fact that it's an open world that also has classic gaming "Stages" sprinkled in for good measure.

There's nothing else available that feels just like this game... I don't feel like I'm playing another Just Cause or Crackdown, and even if gameplay felt similiar, world style and personality is vastly different. This all makes is quite a breath of fresh air to me; I look forward to seeing if this changes, as I get closer to the end!

I loved the missions so much, to the point of getting distracted and making sure to get gold on everything. I've made it to the fourth town and could continue with chapter 12, but it was so enjoyable exploring, doing those side missions, searching for travellers and finding more gems. I've done everything and maxed everything that's possible at this point in the game. Now it's time to enjoy the story chapters :)

The side missions are very varied and well designed. It feels like I'm playing a different game to some of the people who say they lack variety. For instance, the missions where you have to kill enemies are designed differently that gives them a distinctive feel. There is variety with the slide races (love them), energy races, free races, throwing objects and more. They were excellent for pick up and play for a couple of minutes, turning the Vita off and coming back to them later.

To everyone who expected more out of the game, did you expect the second coming of jesus? The game is very impressive and it is very incredible to have a game of this scope running on the Vita. Not to mention, the style and charm that you hardly see much of it nowadays. I only have two problems with it personally. One being the camera that can get very annoying, although the game is all about gravity. I'd imagine it would be difficult to get it 100% right when the player is given so much freedom with the camera angles. And two, the resolution not being native. This isn't a big problem but it would have made the experience better.
