GTA VI Official Trailer

I do wish that R* would give their audiences more credit. I‘m replaying RDR2 currently, and as much as the game continuously leaves me breathless in how impressive its world building is, it is downright insulting in its mission design. I mean, the game literally plays itself when it comes to any decision of agency that would effect any real consequence or player creativity or ingenuity, relegating them to nothing but a puppeteer through very strict pre-scripted a—>b—>c motions and paths the developer predetermined.

I have no idea how gamers are not fatigued of this shit. Give players a general objective and let them get creative in tackling goals in any multitude of ways that they deem effective using systems built into the world. Let me buy a sniper rifle, study their routine and find a perch. Let me plant an explosive on their car. Let me poison their food. Let me try bribery. Let me put a crew together and let them handle it. There is an entire WORLD to potentially exploit, and it’s so frustrating to look at a potential playground with so many possibilities only to realize it’s all effectively dead. I’m not saying the game should become Hitman, but it is LONG overdue for R* to start to allow the player to actually leverage the world they’ve created in significantly impactful ways instead of it just being a shiny showcase to gawk at and bring superficial destruction to while putting a lasso over their necks and leading them like babies step by step. I genuinely feel insulted when playing the missions in these games because there is no room whatsoever for experimentation. This developer is absolutely terrified of letting people actually play the fucking game.

I don’t know why R* takes such a design approach, but it‘s my suspicion that they are fearful that a more open ended, player agency mandated angle would scare off more “mainstream“ casual audiences that they need to recoup such a massive investment as these games entail to create. I suspect this is not a creative choice as much as it is a commercial one necessitated by how big these games have become, and the financial risk inherent in that. Because at this point, R* has to be aware how boring and rote their missions are.

Eh. Given the reception to these trailers every release it seems I’m largely in the minority on this anyway. Wow the masses with glitter and glamor, and who wants more? And who am I kidding? I’ll probably buy it at some point, simply because I love to gawk in awe at the technical marvels these games are. But it will always be done through the sadness of such missed potential that could be so much greater.
Agree on mission design. Very scripted and linear so it plays like a movie. But I never really played that game for the missions, the writing being good and all. But it’s all the stuff you do in between them and basically using the character as an avatar for your own story.

I lol'ed at 2025. If we are lucky one game per gen from Rockstar. (or rather "you'all" since I don't care that much about any of their IPs)
I can't argue success, and all devs seem to struggle to get modern games out, but that's still weirdly slow. That extra 5% polish other publishers don't invest, seems to take an extra 70% of time or whatever. RDR2 might be looking great on PS4, but so did Metro and AC:V, which are from a propably much smaller team and a huge team pumping out several games per gen respectively.
Have fun developing and playing it once it arrives, but I'd rather have smaller, various games releasing within one gen, ie spread the required talent on more than one project per decade.

This is real next gen. Hoping for a proper release in PC. I'm building a new rig only for this game or just wait for PS5 PRO.

lol wat. My dad was a cop and the first game he got me was Duke Nukem 3D where you kill hundreds of literal Pig Cops. GTA isn’t even that bad.

I fucking love people saying "this is real next gen".

No. This is just Rockstar. They are the only AAAA studio. Look at red dead to this day. It's only really cyberpunk in terms of open world that remotely comes close.

You are insane if you think all of a sudden all true next gen will look like this. PS5 came out over 3 years ago and people think this is just the power of next gen? No it's the power of a huge studio, who are well resourced and the best in the industry, having more money and time than anyone else. I'm glad they exist.

2025. Yeah fuck you R* for milking your last game up to the point it was no longer viable.

This reveal only comes because people grew impatient (they have every right to be).
If it was up to you, you'd be asking 10 dollars for a fucking ingame car in GTA online 10 years in the future.

I'm not having it. MY interests have shifted and I sincerely hope this "business practise" will bite you in the ass.

12 fucking years......... Fuck off.

What a load of bollocks. Fuck off lol.

Shit actually looks like its cost an absolute fortune to make. No other dev on the planet could make this, or even have the resources to try.

You prefer a COD game every year instead i guess..........

I think that other devs are gonna show even better graphic in their less complex\smaller open worlds after some time (like i can see horizon 3 or witcher 4 at the end of the gen looking a bit better), but nobody is gonna beat gta6 in many other areas until rdr3 or gta7 (like it was with rdr2)

This. Also lets see how the game actually performs and looks running on consoles. I don't think I saw a disclaimer anywhere on this trailer saying "running on PS5/consoles", so we can presume this is all captured on high end PCs. I believe this is all in-game, but most definitely not in-game running on a current gen console.

Would love to have pointed out what's so "next gen" about this. It looks like a souped up GTA5. Even the water is almost identical. Path Traced Cyberpunk is in a completely different league.

I'd say the scale of the game with that quality is what is 'next gen'.

Cyberpunk's scale isnt anywhere near what GTA VI will be.

I don't know bro. Sure it will be bigger than Cyberpunk but again it seems to be only one city?

From the leaks and it seems like these leaks have been mostly right so far....
the game world is made up of 3 cities and various towns and suburbs in between along with country

GTA V was one main city with 3-4 smaller towns and various industrial areas along with countryside.

Looking at that trailer, GTAVI scale is going to be huge. Look at RDR2 for Rockstars latest form on game world sizes.

Hot damn! That looks nextgen AF. If this will indeed look like this upon release on my console then we can finally say that nextgen has officially arrived (5 years after the start of the gen…). Actually, this is how imagined it and believed it will be. These can consoles can do eyemelting graphics if not the previous generation is the base for it. And hopefully the resolution+fps crowd can also realize that there’s so much more to graphics than those two metrics…

Plus it was not full of woke shit so far, it was pretty okay based on what is in the trailer (though I will keep my hopes in check of course…)
I already like Lucia and I hope the other MC will be good too.

The only negative aspect is that I would have liked a setting that is not so similar to GTA V, but oh well.

And I think I’ll just hype buy the PS5 remaster of GTA V (after finishing it on both 360 and ps4). It’s on sale anyway 🤷‍♂️

3 cities would definitely be sick. But I think we can expect it after 12 years. For me what matters is if the gameplay will be next gen and I have heavy doubts on that with Rockstar's trajectory.

Id hope so, but the GTAV trailer 2 came 1 year after trailer 1, the gameplay trailer came 18 months after trailer 1.

If we assume they get this out before April 2025, then a gameplay trailer will be way before that. I really hope it's a lock for early 2025, holiday 2025 would be depressing. But it is what it is.

Friend of mine said there was a rumor before the trailer hit that we can surf in this game? We don't see any NPCs doing that though, but I would love it. We actually really need new and more activities in the game.

GameCube could have had the earlier GTA games, that's true.
But your assumption on the Switch 2 is just bollocks.
Already bad enough that this is releasing on that pile of shit called Series S - we do not need another limiter.
If it were not for that, they could have gone for 100% on the XSX and the PS5
It's precisely because it's releasing on the Series S Switch 2 customers can dream of the possibilities.

I love it when a Rockstar trailer comes out, because it re-aligns what should be expected from open world games.

Now you've seen the GTAVI trailer, go and watch any Ubisoft trailer in the last 3 years and compare the two. It's night and day.

Ubisoft have the resources to make quality like Rockstar, but they insist of shovelling shit every few years to create mediocre crap.

Rockstar always there to set the standards for the industry for the next 10 years.
