Ah Rata Sum is my home city. It may appear very confusing at first but it's by far the most logically organized of any of the racial capitals. :D

Pity you didn't find the Gate to Metrica Province, one of the cooler starting zones in my humble opinion.

You've probably got the idea by now but just to hammer the point home, if you want to explore any of those 1-15 zones now you'll still get highly relevant XP even though you're level 15. You don't have to go to a level 15+ zone to continue progressing.

I probably found the gate but didn't know that's what the location was called so didmt run through. That's the sad thing lol

You going to be playing at all today? A tour would be nice :D

And yea I wanted to check out all the 1-15 zones before moving up some more and doing more story missions. I really wanna see each unique city especially after going to Rata sum. I probably chose the most boring home since I went human on my first character.

I went to Lions Arch then took another portal to a place called Rata Sum.

I was like "Woah this place is cool as fuck!" Walked around a bit then Brought up the map and saw the 1-15 zone North east of the city but couldn't figure out how to get there.

I have never felt like such a noob in my entire gaming history lol I was trapped n that damn cube I swear.
Cities have map levels which you can adjust. The icons that are not transparent are on your level the ones that are below you have a small arrow pointing down and the ones on level higher are above you. You can select the level when you look at the map so you know what level the portal to the zone is. Look for purply swirly thingies (Asura Gates).

Rata Sum is Asura (ratface) city.

I don't think any major city can be called boring in this game ;P They all have their unique charm. Divinity's Reach blew my tiny mind when I saw it in the first trailer. :D It's a very pretty city, just like all the others.

Rata Sum is my clear fav tho, followed by Black Citadel. Might be because my fav races are asura and charr.

The first time I played an Asura I couldn't find where anything was in Rata Sum. Somehow made my way to the top floor. I wanted to find the port to LA so I jumped out the side of the building and slid down through one of the windows LOL

The Grove is awful and should be burned by Mordremoth.

I think the Grove is beautiful :)

Yeah, I'm not really liking the this LS so far, hopefully the finale makes up for it. I've been working on the Luminescent pieces because I like look and also want the title. However, the grind is real.

Silverwastes is a pain... >_>

Im so sorry for the confusion guys, the guy that posted the WoW banner reminded me. It was 20$ like the others said. My bad, bought alot this month during the sales and mixed up my pricing.

Didnt mean to start any trouble.

That being said. I made one of each classes that I was interested and going to play each to see what I like the most. I really like my Asura Thief and the Charr Engineer but might lean toward the Thief since everyone else is going Engineer.

I hope I didnt cause any bad blood in the community and would like to participate in the Guild eventually if possible. I want to play some more and get a feel for who I want to main before I apply.

When do I get to see the Seeds of Truth content? Is it the End game stuff?

No worries, I'm pretty sure they're just goofing around.

If you leave your account name one of the officers will invite you to the guild. We have a bunch of newbies right now, so don't worry about that too much =)

Hope you know that your account jouns the guild so all your characters will be in the guild, you don't need to decide on a main before joining.

Can also be in 5 guilds at once but can only represent 1 at a time.

Sounds good, hopefully I'll catch you on and we can hop on mumble. I can get on around 7:30pm est. Plenty I can show you at your level.

Lion's Arch is an incredible city, though it's seen better days. I actually really love Divinity's Reach, it feels so massive and alive to me, and I always feel like a "visitor" there (I only have one human character).

After thousands of hours I cannot make heads or tails of The Grove or the Black Citadel, honestly. The Black Citadel is a monumental undertaking of design and totally represents the Charr, but to me when it comes to getting around, Rata Sum is a plainly labelled square in comparison.

Hoelbrak is very nice, but the Norn are the second-least interesting race to me, just personal preference and all, and I also haven't worked on my Norn characters yet either so I don't spend much time there. It has some awesome landmarks/set pieces though.

I don't know if I missed anything but I'm almost positive whatever you're talking about was all in good fun.

Seeds of Truth is the current Living Story episode, and its instances and the zones involved do require you to be somewhat near level 80.
I think the Grove is beautiful :)
Gorgeous, and the hidden area is one of my favorites in the game, but I can never remember what level anything is on XD

However, the grind is real.

Doing something you don't want to be doing, forcing yourself to do it, over and over, to get some kind of goal or reward - is a grind. Which is why I recommend people *don't grind*. Play the game normally, don't overly fixate on one thing, just to speed things up - it makes it feel like it takes longer.

If you play the Silverwastes for one breach cycle every night, that gets you all your dailies, a bunch of Crests, perhaps even a Nightmare key, *perhaps* a carapace piece chest, and more. By the time the next patch rolls around and the specific Mordrem piece extractor you need is out, you'll have more than enough crests to make up any difference.

That's what I did - I waited for the tendon extractor, then did a boss a night, and in a week I had all the pieces. No RNG needed, no grinding, and I never played for more than 45minutes a day. Did that for the fang extractor too. I'll do it for the bladders and other pieces when their specific extractors arrive, until then I just run the normal RNG one for the extra crests for selling the bits. Then on the weekend, did the achievements with friends (we get together every Sunday to run the LS content, then the following Sunday to do the achievements for them). Perfect two-week cycle.

I now have all the carapace armours, and all the bio-luminescent skins (except for boots and pants, obviously - those come next patch for me since I'm waiting for the extractor), and I never grinded once. Because I never let myself get into the mindset of "I gotta get this *now* so grind grind grind." Obviously, some people like grinding, and that's fine if they wanna do that. I don't, so I try to avoid it at all costs.

Just wish the grove didn't chew up my frames

Edit: I grinded for two days for the boots/legs but I knew what I was doing (trying to get everything by the day after the patch was going to be a grind.) I only wish there was maybe one more way to get boot pieces. IIrc, they are either 1000 crests or locked bandit chest. Since you have to use crests to get bandit keys, I really felt like I was gambling and working against myself if I used crests on them instead of hoarding for the sure-thing 1000 trade in. It would have been nice to be able to get boots from the breach boss UI or from the labyrinth.

Unlike other MMOs, there's little need for us to have broad representation of classes- all content can be completed with any combination. And though we may have a solid representation of engineer mains in our guild, engineers are under-represented as a whole in GW2, so don't let that steer you away.

well, so are mesmers! heehee

actually though, we haven't seen numbers since the 1-year anniversary if I remember right, but at that time there was no greater than a 5% difference between the least-played and most-played class, which I think ArenaNet should ultimately be proud of with an 8-class spread. Lots of more lopsided distributions are possible.

ah here:

6% actually, but still.

Hawkian

The Cryptarch's Bane
lol. seeing how close those numbers are I can't imagine why anyone would disbelieve any of them but okay! there are precisely as many guardians as you know there to be in your heart :)

From my personal experience:

Warriors: 79%
Guardian: 2%
Ranger: -1%
Engineer: Kos Luftar+Miktar%
Mesmer: 1%
Mesmer Illusions: 5%
Necromancer: 5%
Elementalist: Base on the number of elemental weapons on map%
Good Warriors: Nah%

How are Eles that high? Surely there are more Guardians. Since I started half maining my Ranger it's quite apparent no one plays Mesmer.

My main is Guardian, but I used to play all my professions, but when I saw Anet nerf this and that and see Guardian basically stay untouched and get buffs, Guardian became my true main..

Lump me in with Engineer GAF. I main'd Warrior for a long time just because I felt confident I could handle anything I wanted to do on him without making too many changes. Once I got a build for my Engineer and settled into Knight's gear, that switched pretty quickly. I still swap over to Dhalion, but I totally think of the Professor as my main now. Not at all where I expected to be when the game launched by the way.

Also, I'll be pouring one out for Vilja tonight. Hope it's not a perma-ban, good buddy.

Yeah, vilj will be back in 2 weeks

Ah, good to hear. That's why I don't venture into gaming too much, some people take things way too seriously. Even though I agree with the sentiment of the post he was responding to, I also have to confess I'm just a little bit worn out on of every single gaming discussion being framed by the same social narratives too. I think it's an important discussion to have and long overdue, but I don't think it's the only one we should be having.

gotta remember to make the event post for Jumpin' on Sunday.

Getting non-80s there: impossible?

Totally possible, my Mesmer is 52 and I was using her to try to get that last stubborn Golden Badge. There's only 3 or 4 mobs between Camp Resolve and Picaroon Scratch, once you're in the tunnels you're fine. With escorts, you could get a level 1 there easily (I toyed with the idea since it'd save me a heap on waypoint costs).

this patch is so frustratingly grindier than the previous two.

I second this. I haven't even attempted the collection achievements, but I'm certainly loathing the idea of going for them.

Why are there so many "collect shit on the ground" things? There was three iterations of this in Dry Top, now there are two in Silverwastes, the most recent being the WORST I've ever done. This is coming from someone with high tolerance for grind and almost 24k in achievement points, this is frustratingly stupid.

I don't expect it, but a coin/badge hoarding title could be a neat little meta-reward for completing all of them.

Wait, are you talking about the Coins and Golden Badges - the completely optional, and in no way whatsoever in any way related to *grinding*, Coins and Badges collectathon?

I mean yeah, collectathons aren't for everyone, but they're sure as heck not a *grind*. They're designed to be done over a *long time*, like, months or more, as an aside to other things. If you're coming at them as a checklist to complete within a week, why would you do that to yourself? That's like saying you want to 100% a jRPG over the weekend.

Why do that to yourself, and make yourself frustrated? It's clearly lowering your enjoyment of the game.

(I love the collectathons in Dry Top and Silverwastes. When the first Coin collection thing happened, I had such a blast I emailed in saying they should do more - because I'm that tool that liked the Red Coin challenge in Mario 64. So if you hate them being in GW2, blame me).

The only "collectathon" I've tried to complete in one day was the Zephyrite Crystal scavenger hunt in Labyrinthine Cliffs. I couldn't help myself on that one, moving around was just such a blast and the way they were (mostly) placed out in the open but difficult to reach triggered a subconscious gamer-itch that demanded to be scratched.

Why don't people do AC P2?

If you ask in the guild, we'll always run it.

People generally don't do it in pugs, because it takes actual coordination on the final boss, so it can't be brainlessly stacked-and-cleared. Grinders (the ones running multiple dungeons every day for the reward, instead of because it's fun to play) go for the path of least resistance.

#NotAllGrinders

A pity, since I think it's one of the cooler fights in the game.

As a grinder, I prefer doing it each day over path 3. As long as no one has fire/air sigils, or pets during the lift/pull bit, the boss is usually quicker than the ac3 boss once the traps are set. Pull stack in corner, keel. Although pugs are slowly learning fighting the ac3 boss straight up can be faster than stacking for dps groups.

Had my first 'bad' experience in pvp. Well this new wind of pvp at least. Got dumped into a 3-man premade who proceeded to curse in all caps the whole match at me and the other random. Bleh.

That is so unfortunate, my guild never does it. I find it really sad that stacking has become a necessity before every fight. It's boring and not as chill and fun as it should be.

Also, I ran into some of you guys in PvP and one of you broke my 15 win streak as a trap ranger.

Stacking was never a necessity, and still isn't. It's just a very popular way of cheesing through content while grinding. I agree, it's incredibly boring and not fun at all. Sorry to hear about your guild not running it - you can be in multiple guilds at a time, perhaps join GAF Guild too, for when you want to play the game properly? :p

Back when I ran dungeons, I often did "ac 1,2,3". Found plenty of people running path 2. But sure, it's probably the least run out of the 3..

Edit: Unpopular opinion , but I actually think stacking at/behind a pillar for Ghost Eater is a smart idea, generally. Since there's a window of vulnerability that you have to damage him fast. Need all the might and such in one place. People who stack the ac1 boss to a corner though....it just seems pointless. Just fight him whereever and kill him dead.
