All this speculation is dandy and all, but let's get down to the cold-hard facts:

What are we going to call our Flying Guild Hall Airship GvG Battle Fortress?

GAFalloon?
GAFalleon?
GAFTOPTER?

@Hawk, I see what you mean. I am not expecting a traiditional expansion but just something like LW but a bit bigger in scope and content, and if HoT is what that is I will be happy and would not mind paying for it.

Enjoy the patch people who aren't working right now. Hate you all.
I don't think anyone can actually download it atm anyway :p

The thing is, it's nigh-useless to apply for a registered trademark if you don't plan on making money directly from that trademark. None of the individual release titles (to my knowledge) have been trademarked.
But is there anything that says that everyone needs to pay for it just because it's trademarked? I'm on the "free to existing players, GW2:HoT sold as new package (with GW2 + exp) instead of the original one" side if we're even thinking expansion.

How active is the WvW scene on Stormbluff? I come back to the game to find the scene on Aspenwood kinda dead.
It's fairly active, but I'm not sure how different it'd be than FA honestly. They're currently ranked above us. If you're looking for serious hardcore WvW, you should see about transferring to a T1 server.
But is there anything that says that everyone needs to pay for it just because it's trademarked? I'm on the "free to existing players, GW2:HoT sold as new package (with GW2 + exp) instead of the original one" side if we're even thinking expansion.
Would be amazing, a masterstroke if they can pull it off!

I just want to say that I'll never become a "I'll reserve judgement" type of guy. It's a very boring and pedantic way to live. We're here so very short a time, why not get excited for stuff.

That being said, I can't sleep over this. I'm through the roof :DDDDDD
The reason for reserving judgment is because you don't have all the facts. When you speak and act with an incomplete picture, you say and do things you wouldn't have done with complete information.

I will continue to reserve judgment until I'm given concrete information. I will get excited when they announce new skills and traits, not over empty hype. Given how very little has been added in this regard since launch, I'm not convinced they will introduce these until I see images and patch notes.

Edit: yay, no resetting to default finishers. "sometimes"? All the time.

I'm hoping that if the boss is the only way to get it, that the chances of it from that event (or whatever) is significantly higher then, say, getting a piece from a lost chest or labyrinth chest which also had the crest option.

Basically, no crest trade option hopefully means significantly higher chance.

Only reason it seems dead is cause we in a tier 3 match, which is a pretty boring match for us since we are dominating the other two servers big time. There still a very active WvW community in FA.

I'm on Isle of Janthir and I hate you. You freaking people are everywhere. How am I supposed to treb cheese my way into your towers if you show up at the last second every time?!? We've been outnumbered all week...
i don't hate you please don't be offended

My server has the lowest score amongst all servers and we're somehow Tier 3. http://mos.millenium.org/na/matchups/ IoJ plz... just get green next week so I can finish my map completion... I've been waiting so long :'(

The reason FA seems dead right now is because it's a T2 server stuck in a T3 match. The scene on FA is 100x more alive than it is on SBI during an actual matchup.

What happens is that SoS, DB, YB, and FA are all of comparable size and skill so they take turns rotating into T3. Eventually one of them will implode because they are sick of the off weeks. It's really, really hard to say who though. SoS is the official oceanic server, YB is the bandwagon flavor of the week, DB has the biggest population, and FA is the comparatively hardcore WvW community who loves to play gatekeeper to T1, which is exactly what they did to YB. Traditionally the bandwagon server falls off a cliff, but YB gained a huge multiple timezone T1 blob guild to anchor it.

I just realized that if an expansion is happening, we'll probably get a new login/character select screen when it launches.

YESSSS

Because we obviously need more RNG BS

ArenaNet should just make it the genre standard, and add a Need/Greed roll system on it so even when it does drop, it's random/luck if you actually get it instead of someone in your party.

Yeah.

Ye gods we're lucky we don't have that system.

RNG is bleh though, except when it isn't. People seem fuzzy on the details as to where RNG drops are okay or not. I don't know anymore. I play D3, so I'm just used to RNG.

Yeah.

When you kill the boss in a party, a PvP map rotation thingy pops up and whoever it lands at gets all the loot.

Ooh, or how about: all loot that drops for you is withheld in a "loot cache", unless you buy a Loot Drop Key that lets you unlock it and get all the loot from the last 24-hour period. If you don't unlock the loot in that time, it vanishes, but your chance to get better loot increases by 1%, until you do unlock it.

(Yes, I'm making fun of Black Gold)

The Cryptarch's Bane
GAFGuild Season 2 Event - 9:00PM EST, January 16th, 2015 - A Very Orry Christmas
christmasveuri.png

Come say a final farewell to the holiday season by bringing some Yuletide cheer to the one place in Tyria that needs it most. Deck yourself out, get your Mini Ho-ho-tron by your side, and let's conquer the unsunken lands of Orr one more time. The Risen could use some caroling, trust me.

Those of you battle-hardened by Operation Tidal Sword and Occupy Orr know what we're in for. We'll meet up at Fort Trinity, and then forge a path through the Straits of Devastation all the way to the Gates of Arah, the ruined capital of Orr. Along the way we'll liberate the temples to the 5 ancient Gods: Balthazar, Lyssa, Melandru, Grenth, and DWAAAAAYYYNNNAAAAAAA. Depending on whether or not we crush Balthazar's priest quickly, we may stop off in Zho'Qafa to poke Zhaitan in the Eye as well.

For our newer players, the temple events may be a little more involved than you're used to (especially Balthazar and Grenth), with a legitimate threat of failure. But GAFGuild will rise to the challenge! It's great loot- tons of Heavy Moldy Bags, which sell or can be opened for T6 mats- and Exotic armor and trinkets are available from the vendors which unlock after each Temple. Balthazar's vendor also sells Obsidian Shards if you're in need.

Minimum level is 70... any less than that and Risen Thralls will oneshot you on the move and you won't have any fun! Apologies to our newer members that don't have a character that high up yet; we'll make sure our next event is something everyone can attend.

Hope to see you guys there!

I dislike how the GW2 community expects everything to be "free." The living story has conditioned people to believe ANet can go on forever off just the gemstore, nevermind any of the realities of business. You're going to have to pay some real money. It probably won't kill you.

Had hoped for some skill balances this patch. If I could change anything, I'd bring back something closer to GW1's cycle. I'd like to see the meta shaken up more than once every six months.

Fixed a bug in which finishers would sometimes reset to the default finisher after interaction with the Hero panel.
Best thing!

Hahaha ok buddy

My rabid hype turns to tempered and sizzling anticipation when I receive concrete info. I come down from the highest heights of optimism to a healthy norm of happiness and wonder.

Just finished the Episode.

Wow.

They're pretty much all in on this one and that was a great ending for building hype.

The next 10 days, 20 hours, 40 minutes and 30 seconds are going to be killer.

bleh. please. The realities of business. I'm someone who reads every earnings call NCSoft has with its investors. Depending on the margins they are looking for, ANet can kind of survive indefinitely off of gem store sales... it really has been a pretty damn successful cash shop implementation. That's not the point, it has nothing to do with "wanting stuff for free." I've already derived my money's worth from the experience and then some, and I won't think twice about spending more; it's deserved. Furthermore, one of the main appeals from a business standpoint of a new expansion release is that regardless of the raw cash influx of everyone shelling out X dollars for the expansion, the PR swell that surrounds a new boxed release will result in a wave of front-page press, new players getting the game for the first time, old players returning, etc. all of whom may wind up buying some gems. ArenaNet has really done an impressive job thus far of generating these kind of cyclical swells without asking an expenditure, though of course I can see from a publisher's/shareholders' perspective how it feels like it's time.

I couldn't possibly care less about personally having to spend money to continue keeping up with the game as it advances, and I'm predisposed to do so even without looking at what content is being added. Regardless of pricing, the actual money out of my pocket is not a big deal. There are plenty of tangible reasons to not want a traditional boxed expansion, not the least of which being that there are plenty of people for whom the preceding sentence isn't true, and they won't be able to play the new stuff with me. Furthermore a boxed expansion carries with it a lot of check boxes people (especially from a sales/industry perspective) expect, only a small fraction of which I'm actually interested in. It remains to be seen if or how many of these will play a role in what we're getting, but that's why I'm hoping this isn't going to be quite what might be expected and they take another novel approach to expanding the game.
