A sequel to Uprising looking like this, oh man.

So happy to see people mention Uprising in here, no one ever seems to talk about it.

It's my favorite downloadable title of the generation and I thought they hit it out the park. The voice acting was so good!

Show yourself you bastard, Show yourself Tiberius!

And let me say, that's the most forced, hodge-podge American background possible, lol. "LOOK, STATURE OF LIBERTY... BESIDES A WESTERN SHERIFF!"... Ok....
You're not serious are you? Cuz KoF 13 had fat French woman in the background, double decker busses in the UK stage, and I'm pretty sure some older SNK games would fit a 'forced, hodge-podge' setting.

This'll get me more hype than any FPS #461 or such, that's been shown for Next Gen, so far. Though I do have to admit, with this game, the "look at how similar we are to what you already have!" is way strong at this point, and that's slightly disappointing.
I don't exactly get what you mean, but if you mean that it seems to play similar to GGXX, then OK, but the game just got announced so they opted to go with showing something familiar to the usual fanbase, which is something you would be OK with if SNK did such a thing.

I'm really hoping this manages to play differently to GGXX like how SF2, SF3 and SF4 play differently.

Just reminded me of how much I love the OST of this game! So good!

So. You want me dead?
Go To Hell!
Let's begin. The Final Battle.

Tiberius was awesome.

I can't even believe what I'm seeing. An ALL NEW GG, using the UE, but is 60fps/1080p, and actually looks better than Arc's usual sprite mess? I hope they use this workflow for EVERY fighter from now on.

P4A2, with the same looks please.

Sega publishing actually means this has a good chance of coming to the PC too.

Oh god.

E: Oh god

There's probably not gonna be a Persona 4 Arena 2.
Though it's still popular in arcades, I think both ArcSys and Atlus want to focus on their strengths.

A Persona 5 Arena would be vey welcome though! :D

It's unfortunate given the generally positive critical reception of the game as well as its fantastic sales. I wouldn't say there'll never be a sequel, but it certainly won't be happening anytime soon.

There will be massive rage if this happens. GGXX fans are like ST fans, they think the game is already perfected, I don't think they'll want change. Arc is going to have to strike a tough balance between pleasing the older fans and making the game learnable/interesting for newer fans.

YES!! New Guilty Gear!!! Strange title but whatever. I can't wait for more details.

Also glad they confirmed Millia.

Yowza, I'm of the mindset that a sequel should try to play differently than its predecessor, which is why I like how different SF2~4 are.

No, please. No. God. No. No. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Street Fighters problem is it's systems change to where learning one game doesn't help you with another. Blazblue's problem is that it's characters all play different to where you have to learn one and only one (and even then you're not sure if that character is for you). Please let both of those series keep those problems and let GG be perfect already like it is.

Hi there.

I agree kinda. Street fighter 2 and street fighter 4 yeah sure.
Street fighter 3, dispute the fgc hyping that game up, the game wasn't that popular. It was more difficult to play and the characters they liked were thrown out.

While I like street fighter 3, as long as they do not make it like street fighter 3 it will be fine.

Art is never finished or perfected merely left undone.

I do not feel strongly either way, but that way of thinking leads to dissapoint

ASW fans are not quite as rabid about change. We welcome it for the most part. The hoopla regarding Mahvel changes or changes to classics never registered with us when +R was announced even though Accent Core is one of the greatest fighting games ever made already. Chances were that the game had more to lose than to gain.

We can't even talk changes for Third Strike without someone sending in death notes(this is hyperbole, don't lose it) and that game has shitty balance in comparison(still fuckin' love it though!) lol.

Totally serious. Modern KoF's background style is better, and the whole thing just screams that it's more developed. Even if you have some "Culture for the sake of Culture!" stuff in there, you have all those dynamic, wild character designs surround it, interacting as well. Not just 2 or 3 iconic definitions of a country + some japanesey stuff in the background.

Forcing the Wild West to sit with a Statue of Liberty head, and American flag, and some other stuff in the background is just... eh.

Anyway, that's not why we're here, onto other things!

There's just so little new. Even when XII showed up, it showed up with it's deadlock system, and backgrounds that were "Old school KOF, Craked up to 11!"

This looks like "Guilty Gear: SEE, WE STILL KNOW HOW TO MAKE ONE!". The character designs, background style, and everything is really "safe", for now. It's not horrible or anything, but I like my fighting trailers to show off something that I think "MAN, I CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY THAT!" from the get-go. As in "Play", as in, "Something new to gameplay, that I don't get from the fighters I currently have". This hasn't done that yet, so yeah, slight disappointment.

I'm just someone who has a particular set of taste, that are better served by a different style of creation and presentation. Capcom also does a great job at getting my hyped with their reveals, even for games I don't end up playing as much. ASW seems to do well by their fans expectations though, so... good for them?

I wouldn't completely count out another Persona fighter, actually.

I mean, both Atlus and ASW were pleased with the results, which is a far cry from the likes of Sengoku BASARA X (where both Capcom and ASW seemingly treated it like the bastard child that neither wanted anything to do with it).

If worse comes to worse, I could see people having to wait until ASW's schedule clears up a bit. Between another likely BlazBlue update, this upcoming GG, and Mori's PS4/Durango level fighter, it may be a while before ASW will be available to work with Atlus again. And perhaps by then, maybe Persona 5 will be out.

Why go 3d if youre not going to improve your animation?

Much like with NRS and Mortal Kombat, it's safe to presume the "choppiness" is intentional, in order to maintain the "feel" of playing the 2D games.

Fucking RIGHT. If there's one fighter that needs to stay roughly the same system-wise, just adding new characters to liven things up, it's Guilty Gear. Virtua Fighter also qualifies for this distinction.

That said, X-HARD (X-HARD! How metal? SO metal!) is a better number than XXX would have been. I can imagine the doujins already have that base covered.

God, no.

KoFXIII has some of the best spritework this gen, next to BlazBlue. Those are like the only fighting games keeping sprites alive, aside from Skullgirls.

Oh XIII sprites were really nice you didn't lie. But I want my 3D Mignon back :3

KoF Maximum Impact 2 is the only KoF I loved besides XIII tbh

Cheaper, faster, more accessories and alternate costumes if done right. Also, there is no doubt that 3D appeals to people more than 2D. It'd could be the shittiest 3D on the planet and many people would pick it over BlazBlue style sprites.

You didn't lie. I would! BlazBlue is actually really pretty tho

Highly possible it's cheaper too - what was the cost per character (for animation) in KOF again?

I guess there's still a possibility, since there's still a bit till the Persona 3 movie, but it's been over a year since the original game came out, and we've heard absolutely nothing.
This is not the ArcSys cycle (but then again, it's not an ArcSys game).

But with the focus on Chrono Phantasma and Xrd now, as well as XBlaze on consoles, a new Persona fighter would definitely shock me.

nah i think GG is fine as is. add some new moves and a new coat of paint and i'll be pleased.
i like my fighting game skills to be transferable instead of having to learn all new shit every time.

There was a Statue of Liberty stage in the first game of the series.

I do remember this, though I don't remember what else surrounded it.

It's just so ODD to see such different elements right by each other. A western trademark on the right! An East Coast Statue on the left! Some filler stuff in the middle! *shrug*

The colors and overall look are pretty cool, though. And hey, at least there's 1 prominent, live human in the background!

As long as it means the game will be accessible to newcomers. I've never really played a Guilty Gear game, but I'm looking forward to this one.

No one knows, but someone here once said cheaper than Skullgirls even though the SNK creation process takes longer lol.

I expect it to be higher than 275k at the very least. That is probably about the price of a Skullgirls character(and music/story/stage) if L0 staff wants to eat out every once in a while.

I'll wait for a demo or something before I get hype or anything. I was interested, but I've never seen a mechanically impressive game developed with Unreal Engine 3 by anyone other than Epic Games. But it does indeed look nice.

Also..... I remember when I used to play Battle Fantasia (one of my favorite ASW games btw) most ASW fans didn't like it because it wasn't Guilty Gear/BB. As for me personally as a person who used to be a fan of SF before IV and MVC3...... I can appreciate a change, but when it comes to the cost of depth in a fighting game.. That's when you alienate me. This is coming from a guy who gave SFxTK a chance and actually didn't hate it at first. Matter in fact. I thought the meta game was pretty dope.

It's certainly a good thing. CyberConnect2 used to mainly be the only ones responsible for this style, but it's becoming more and more prevalent.

That is good, I do not want everyone to do it though. I have heard some suggestions of the next mahvel looking like this, nah. Tis a comic book game.

Everything else sure,... if they wanna.. I dunno make the new strider look like this... i'm down.

3D would theoretically be cheaper than 2D, but that all depends on what's being done with it. Pretty sure I remember reading that part of the incentive for going with 2D for Skullgirls was because rendering some of the more absurd morphing and distortion aspects of certain characters would've been less feasible and much more expensive in 3D, with Dhalsim having been cited as the most expensive character for Capcom to implement in SFIV as a result (wish I could find the post that detailed this).

And personally, I hate the way Arc handle rebalance their fighters, which is why I have no problem with P4A staying the way it is (it's no more perfect than any other game, but it's certainly more playable than the first iteration of a new Arc fighter usually tends to be).

Yeah. Again, I just think it's a matter of prioritizing. ASW likely only has so much in the way of available manpower, after all.

But thanks to this new graphic style being used, I can imagine that manpower being used much more efficiently than before. No more drawing pixels over 3D models means that perhaps they can just focus on making more reasonably sized rosters, instead of just starting with 12-16 characters per new game.

It really depends. Change to the balance is one thing, but an entirely different game is another. It's only natural that people will resist anything different at first even from the same company. I hope for a Capcom all stars game that basically becomes the new Mahvel, but I expect some friction from minions for sure.

Is this new fad.

I am ok with this.

Atelier series has had models like that for a multitude of games, for years now. They get better each time, but they've been impressive from the start.

The only reasons I don't think you see models like that appearing more in fighters:

  • Properly animating them is a pain.
  • Getting such detailed models to 60 FPS with all a fighter requires might also be quite a pain.

It's good someone has stepped up to the plate, and we might just have needed "next gen" power (or maybe just RAM?) for it to acually be feasible for consoles.
