Gungho America asks about porting classic games to PC (Lunar, Grandia, etc.)

Grandia II already exists on PC...

For that matter, Thexder 1 already exists on PC. Played it on my Tandy 1000 (non-SX but old gamer high-five anyway), but I'm reasonably sure most people would prefer a bit of a modernization.

I would really really love for the Grandia games to be made available on modern PC platforms. I don't even care about any improvements as long as the port is competent.

But it's a bad enough port that it might as well not. Major issues even if you're lucky enough to get it to work in the first place.

I'm seriously confused as I got it way back and didn't have any issues other than some spells being fucked due to fucked up FMV encoding. Did I get a magical disc? I remember loving it, so if that was busted I'd love a proper port to see what I missed.

I remember playing a bunch of these like Thexder and Zeliard somewhere around the Pleistocene.

Holy shit I've been trying to track down the name of Zeliard for years! That's the one pc game from my childhood I could never remember the name of!

Also, shocked to see Thexder mentioned. I think there was also a psp release of it a few years ago? What a strange franchise to keep revisiting, I don't think it was ever very popular.

Yeah, there was a PC remake & then later a PSP remake. The sequel, Thexder 2: Fire Hawk, was a much better game with an actual plot, more interesting levels, and a sub-weapon system but as far as I know, it never got updated.

The only game I've played in that survey is Grandia, and even that I only played for a couple of hours before I got distracted. I'd certainly try the other games like Lunar, and Ragnarok Odyssey if it comes to the PC.

I voted for the Grandia series. I have rented the series a number of times from blockbuster during elementary, and I always wanted to replay the games.

Only ever played Grandia and Silver Star Story Complete, but I'd be open to other games
even though Grandia is clearly the most important
just like I was with Ys when that came to Steam.

Filled it out. Voted for Grandia 3, already have Grandia on Ps3 PSN eheh. I used to own Grandia 3 when I had a ps2 but never finished it and don't own it anymore (I know, bad me.).

Has one of the cooler resurrection spells in a game, IMO.

Honestly, I'm always open for any game to be ported to PC - whether I would personally play it or not. Platform wise - as long as I can get it on GOG or Steam (I do prefer GOG - though that isn't for any particular reason) I don't care where it comes out.

For the games themselves, I just want a game that has a good translation and a stable framerate (~30 I guess). I'm not bothered if it isn't 1080p 60fps (though I know many here would prefer that...). Mods can be nice, but aren't necessary. Just don't be afraid of user content. I know some companies absolutely hate mods, but I definitely think they can be beneficial (see Elder Scrolls). I wouldn't really need new content. Just being able to play Grandia 1 + 2 or Lunar SSSC + Eternal Blue again or any variant of the game and any of the others that I haven't played before would be fine with me.

Seeing all this love for Grandia warms my heart! The original game is still the best experience I've ever had with a JRPG, and I would love for that series to get re-released on PC so more people could enjoy it. And who knows, maybe that hopeful success could translate to renewed interest in the property from GungHo?

A boy can dream...

If they port them I will buy. Never got a chance to try the Lunar games and I'd give them a go, but I'm a huge enough Grandia fanboy that a port of any of them (heck, maybe even 3) would get my money.

I've only played the PS2 version of Grandia II and it was just a terrible, buggy port. I hear the existing PC port of Grandia II is also bad. I'd buy a GOOD PC port of that game.

They need to port THE ORIGINALS. I would kill for something like an FF1 PSP style update to Lunar 1 and 2.

Nah, the SCD versions have their own charm, but the PS1 or Saturn versions would be much more marketable these days. And IMO, Lunar 1 PS1 is drastically better than the SCD version (Lunar 2 is a closer call).

I put Grandia III as my wanted port, as Grandia II had a PC release although it was a bit janky. Lunar Eternal Blue would be cool as I have never played it but I would prefer a PSN port so I could play it on Vita. The 3D Grandia games would probably hold up the best visually and it would be cool to have them on Steam.

I strongly disagree, but I know that's not the norm. The original was way more rewarding and difficult, and I prefer how the original handled
Quark's death.
Way more of a gut punch.

Grandia II and Breath of Fire IV are the undisputed rulers of the stealth JRPG PC ports.

You can hex edit the executable for Grandia II and get higher resolutions. The movies will always look like shit however.

I just want Grandia 3 so someone can mod the mom character to stay the whole game.

I would love that! Plus a mod to completely mute Alfina (or just remove her) and all the big creatures you run into who sound like they're reading for story time at a preschool. Maybe remove their text as well. You just stare at each other for a bit and then the game continues.

Now, now. We need Alfina so we can hear Alfina's Sorrow.

Chances are, even if it's not the Working Design Lunar's that get ported, someone is gonna mod it.

As long as it gets ported to Steam is all that matters.

The only games I'd be interested in is the Lunar series... and since it won't have Working Designs translation, it means little to me.

LOLcalizations forever!

I played them all and the PSP remake was not terrible.

It was terrible. Areas were redesigned/smaller, but monsters/encounters were not rebalanced (certain later dungeons had 4 respawning monsters in an area that you had to back track through constantly and was actually where I finally gave up trying to play). On top of that, someone decided it was a good idea to have the music volume fade in and out with every screen transition... it was so bad I had to mute the game which is a huge shame since the music is a huge part of the game.

It was nice enough of a translation... somewhere between Working Designs and a more accurate translation so there is that.

jkdogsdgsgds AAAHHH!!!

I want my PS1 ports of Lunar 1 and 2

And psp/vita port of Lunar 2 :(

damn i dont care about pc releases fuck them

Shrug. It's one of my favorite pieces of music from Grandia 3.

It could totally work for a song about ulf's inevitable yet unrequited and/or tragic feelings for miranda after she becomes a permanent party member. Just rename it "my best friend's mom." Done.

To this day, MAGIC... EMPEROR....GALLEON! still makes me giggle.

I have that damned Galleon puppet in a box somewhere. I should find it.

Again, the original wins.

But now, dear friend, things are changing again.

I'll soon rule the world.
BUT FIRST YOU HAVE TO DIE.

Man, I hated how Grandia 3 took away characters I was actually interested in (the mom and the lancer dude). The dude with the flail and the tarot card girl were so, so, so fucking boring in comparison.
