Gust announces Atelier Sophie (PS3/PSV/PS4)

Can't not be excited about this. But looks like it's just built on the template of Shallie though. Same icons, map, enemies, PS1 era backgrounds.

Hope they open up the alchemy more to customization!

this girl looks plain as fuck

PS3 is good news if all they do is up port the game and not add exclusive content for the other platforms

Yeah I'm not digging her design. Not so much for her plainess (though easily the Hidari and Kishida Mel era design were way more unique; but if they want something more 'practical' then cool), but the colour scheme is sort of a mess. Blue, red, purple, cream, and amber... woah. @_@

Oh, where's Escha & Logy Plus at??? Shiiit.

Recently been grinding through the Atelier games in the past year, so I'm pretty excited for this. Enjoyed pretty much all the games (haven't played Shallie yet), despite the flaws that each has.

oh no Sophie isn't good at alchemy, so it's like every other Atelier game ever where the protagonist isn't good at alchemy except they're synthesizing nuclear devices by the end of the game. Or are they really suggesting Sophie will continue to suck at alchemy throughout the game?

Also, re: recipes. I like this change!

Maybe this means that she has no training whatsoever at the start of the game, unlike with the other protagonists. Maybe she has no master to teach her? She finds the wonderous tome (of Alchemy) and the story begins. Something like that.

Woo, yeah! New Atelier!

That Kuni game doesn't interest me (too much sex service), and I thought that a new Atelier might be pushed back to next year cause Gust is small, but this is coming much sooner than expected.

Very glad they're going back to one heroine. Not a fan of the duo thing.

I'm all for time progression again. It's been an Atelier stable for years, and while I love Shallie, it didn't look like cutting the feature won any people over to the series.

Now, time to look up that VA. Hopefully they won't make my ears bleed. Shallistera's deeper voice was much preferred over most of the others' high pitch voice (Lotte was fine too).

Looking forward to this. Hopefully we'll hear some music soon. I feel like the series has been getting better and better in this department. Keep it going, Gust sound team!

Missed this. Thanks.

Music sounds nice. That voice at the end sounds like something that'll annoy me over time, though. Guess we'll see. :D

Rorona was never plus'd.

They are literally remakes of the original game.

They are called plus in the west to follow the past trend of the past ports of Totori and Meruru.

There's no reason for them to do a plus version of this game cause it is already coming out on the Vita.

Yeah, I knew all of this, however you can't 100% say there won't be a plus version coming is my point, regardless of how much sense it makes or doesn't. So I suppose we'll see.

The slag in the background of that one shot makes me wonder- could this game take place in the same world as the Dusk games, just in the future after the Dusk has been fixed?

Which brings us to the scarier question of... was the Dusk trilogy the post-apocalyptic future of the Arland trilogy?

I also wanted a new Dusk one, but I can wait. Will wait for the localization on this one.

I hope the OST is as good as the Dusk games.

-there will be no 'specific things you must do in specific time'. It would cause stress to the users

(+) no missable time-specific flags
(-) no 'time' currency that attach meaning to every choice you make

Wish they had even out the RNG elements instead to tackle the stress issue. Promoting the flexibility of play should be the key focus imo.

Yeah I agree, I really liked Dusk. Also yeah the soundtracks, I have faith they'll all be awesome, they haven't let me down yet!

Here are some screens from RPG Fan's Twitter account featuring the two main characters.

Apparently, there's this new feature called Doll Make that lets you customize Prafta. Why Doll Make you ask? Well she used to be a book who got turned into a homonculus or something.

Personally, I find that Prafta looks more like she's from Ar Tonelico than an Atelier game.

I don't know if we're allowed to link to even partial scans (I suspect not), but what I saw definitely ain't no slag.
After finding it, definitely looks like a puni to me. I hadn't really thought about it until now, but there weren't any punis in the dusk trilogy that I can remember, which is strange since they've been in all the Atelier games I've played, going back to Iris.

the art is terrible generic 'moe' now... I guess after how Dusk series kinda bombed they decided to do this for more appeal or something :\
Probably should have just got Mel Kishida again...

I was hoping they were going to take a bit of a break to let people catch their breath.

I'm like 3 games behind. Length combined with similarity makes this a hard series to play yearly.

I've wanted to try out the Atelier games at the start of the Dusk trilogy, but just can't bring myself to dive in. It's probably because I'm only occasionally in the mood for traditional turn-based RPG fighting mechanics and the game seems linear in its exploration. I'd figure this type of game would benefit from an open world structure. The areas in these games are linear, yeah?

Wish they would experiment more, instead all their games look the same.

The last time they dared to do something different we lost 2D busts in favor of completely 3D cutscenes which made Dusk really awkward and stilted. They did away with one of their strengths. :|

I haven't played a single Atelier game outside of trying Mana 1 for an hour or so. Not sure I'd like these games but I don't know where to start with all those releases.

Gust has really great music that I feel is wasted on the artstyle most specifically the character models (and character art to a lesser degree) are just boring and generic. Wish they would experiment more, instead all their games look the same.

Just my opinion. Maybe only I feel this way.

I think the characters look great in each of the games... Original Rorona aside. ;) At least the 3D models.

A more varied aesthetics is something I could agree on. Yoru no nai no kuni is kinda what I'm talking about.

I hope only you feel that way.

In my opinion Gust games have the best anime-style character models in JRPGs, period. And it's not even close!

I always feel like Totori is the best entry point for the PS3 titles. I played player New Rorora but I'm pretty sure the tight task schedule is still in.

Yeah, Totori is a good entry point and still my favorite among the PS3 games. Try it Aru. If you don't enjoy Totori I think it's very unlikely you'll enjoy any of the other games.

That music... looks like this is gonna be like Shallie again, just having that music looping in the background for hours and enjoying when the new songs get added!

I'm still mad that the awesome setting of the Dusk games was completely wasted. Hope it gets some kind of proper conclusion in the future.

not a chance, they're not gonna revisit Dusk down the line in video game form, maybe it'll get some sort of LN run or something to finish it off but there's no way it'll be a game unless they change the true ending in Shallie Plus (if that's even happening)

Pamela too pls
there's like no reason not to have Pamela running a store in every game, another reason Dusk was a crime

i'm not too big on Hagel tho, make Hanna a recurring character
Full teaser trailer is up

https://youtu.be/Qn32j4f00oo

There is little bit of gameplay added from initial teaser.
gameplay is looking really good, part of me is remaining cautiously optimistic since it's the first of a trilogy and the last 2 haven't gone over all that well, but i assume they've got their bearings by now and won't flat out ruin things like they did in Ayesha

That short snippet of whatever grid minigame the alchemy is using is already more interesting than alchemy in all of Ayesha combined.

That 2nd main character design is beyond awful, but I already expected this somehow :/

Probably should have just got Mel Kishida again...

Should've just keep Hidari. She's one underrated character artist out there.
