Gust announces Atelier Sophie (PS3/PSV/PS4)

Designs look so stellar. I really like Kishida but these are really good too.
Plachta is so damn cute, how could I not like these.

These scans going around, lol.

Atelier now new levels of lewd.

welp at those scans, and they were getting good with Dusk games. This is now far worse than anything in Arland games and people were iffy about those...I guess I'm done with this series for the time being. THOSE LOOK AWFUL. Gust added back to shit list.

That 2nd main character design is beyond awful, but I already expected this somehow :/
Should've just keep Hidari. She's one underrated character artist out there.

Hidari is great, just not otaku friendly I guess :\

Ateliers gameplay have always been more or less the same with the focus is on crafting stuffs. Sounds like you have never played Atelier game before.

I've played all 6 PS3 entries. This would need to be better than Totori+ to be of any interest for me with these shit designs.

I think this looks awesome.

Assuming I saw the right scan, Prafta is wearing her standard costume (lewd? I do agree) but I think Sophie's dress is quite cute actually.

I love EVERYTHING they have shown of Sophie, like damn this might actually be the return of Arland's amazingness.

Also a PS4 version that hopefully is 1080p/60fps(or at least locked 30) would be amazing.

Unless the gameplay is godlike it's a no from me with these designs.

I really hope they don't drop the awesome gameplay from Shallie and keep evolving it, they were close to make something truly amazing.

I liked more the Escha & Logy version on the Battle System, especially because having a single bar for assists made me use them a lot more.

Does the Arland games are considered better than the Dusk Trilogy ?

I'm super far behind in Atelier releases but I think I'll just jump ahead to Sophie when it comes out, mainly because of the PS4 version. Let's hope it's good!

I don't know. Hidari's design and artstyle looks cutesy and moe enough for me. While indeed on design department she rarely (or maybe even never) resort to something really led, all of them still have that moe appeal. Even Kishida Mel designs aren't that lewd barring a very few exception.

But hey, it just one character. The other main character design completely aligned with the rest of the series aesthetic so it is fine.

some info from the magazine. I am sure there will be better translation later, so this is just kinda temporary.

-It's not based on Dusk world
-when asked if this was a trilogy: "sorry can't comment"
-Day/night cycle will be shown in the environment. Day/noon/night, and also weather is in.
-there will be no 'specific things you must do in specific time'. It would cause stress to the users
-Sophie is not really good at alchemy compared to recent protagonists.
-You don't buy recipes anymore. You learn them through experience. Exploration, battle, events could lead to new recipes.

So happy to see this is the case. This drove me nuts in Totori and Meruru...

Lol that was the main reason why I couldn't get into Meruru. Having played Rorona (PS3) and Totori (PS3 + Vita) and platinumed all three, I couldn't get myself to continue playing the PS3 and Vita version of Meruru. I own both but I really want to finish it.... >.>

I'm disappointed that the time system is still gone, which means the day/night system won't be much more than a superficial addition at best. I was excited to find out about the day/afternoon/night system at first, as it could have added an extra level of resource/time management on top of the old calendar system, changing how you'd plan your journeys around the world map depending on what time of day it might be at each location.

Different games did the calendar system better than others (I found Totori and Escha & Logy got the balancing right given their world maps and the tasks at hand), but the removal of it in general makes things feel less tighter. A bit like how I felt about Rune Factory 4 when I got two-thirds of the way in -- was it my smart thinking that got me this far and in this situation, or the sheer number of hours I was sinking into the game?

Really interested by the screenshots with what looks to be the new alchemy system as it looks completely different than any of the old ones I've seen. New character designs also look nice and some more examples of the ability to customize Plachta's (checked the main site and that's what they have her name as, whether that'll stay the same for the English localization, we'll see) appearance.

Also it has down below stuff about singers, granted I'm just making assumptions, but it looks like Rurutia and Haruka Shimotsuki are going to return for Sophie.

As for the lack of time system... lets just say they better do a better job than what Shallie's system was...

Is it funny that the thing I noticed is how great the laboratory flask looks with the liquid and smoke effects?

I certainly don't think so.
It's one of the things that always jumps out at me with Atelier games and this one seems to be the best yet. :)

Have there actually been any battle screens of her yet? It'd be odd if she wasn't a usable party member given the, uh, giant armaments of smiting getup.
Don't think so, the famitsu scans a while back only had Sophie by herself and the new screenshots from in battle only have Sophie and the two characters that were just introduced. Speaking of the battle system, no sign of the switching mechanic yet but given that it's been in all the recent games and we still haven't seen more than three party members it's not that surprising... just me hoping they'll keep including stuff from the Mana Khemia battle system, sad that they haven't had anything to match it in all the Atelier games since.

I'm confused. The girl in the yellow outfit kinda looks like Sophie? Is she her sister, or is that actually Sophie and she has a separate battle/field outfit, or...?

Curious to see how the new alchemy system works. Gust hasn't really done any wrong in that department yet (though Rorona's OG system feels a bit antiquated now) so I have faith. The ability to customize the book/magical-girl's abilities/class could make battle more interesting, too.

Still not particularly fond of all the lewd. Feels real pandery.

That's Sophie.

Two new things to share! First some translations/explanations of the screenshots that were recently uploaded. Definitely excited to try out the new alchemy system. And apparently that new Sophie outfit is some kind of "special outfit" she gets to show that she's gotten better at alchemy, so maybe you don't get it for a while (though I still prefer the original design, hard to beat that coat).

And secondly! The official site has been updated with the third audio track, a nice laid back song.

Seems like crafting will be slower in this game than in other games due to the mechanics. Not a bad thing, especially since the games I've played have always provided ways to mass-produce items you've made after a while.

Loving that third track.

I was hoping to jump into the series with this one since it's the start of a new subseries, but all this Plachta stuff is making me question that. Not just the costumes, but how they're being advertised and used in the game too, I guess. I'll be looking forward to impressions from the Japanese release to see if it's worth picking up when it comes out here, since it seems pretty neat otherwise.

These games always have great music and I'm glad to see that is still continuing with this one!

Always I'm totally glad the time requirement is gone as that has always been a slightly sour point in these games for me.

Rorona+ was the only one it didn't bother me in but the time requirements were so lax in that game they might as well have not been there.
