Hey uummm when they replace them all with AI and cut the cost dost down to $10m per AAA game remember Mindseye and Concord, because that is a billion dollars on the table right there.

450 employees, 8 years in development. "Several hundred million dollars in venture capital funding" already reported on previously.
Granted a bunch of those resources go to that community creation software they got, which Mindseye came from. But still, sounds like a shit ton of budget and people even for both projects.

All I know is if anyone wants to see money fly out the window faster than lightning, you got your pick of: Gambling at the casino, hookers and booze, or give it to a video game studio.

That's three things that can spiral into no budget is too big.

You don't accidentally burn through that kind of budget and end up with a game that looks, plays, and runs like someone's Unreal Engine 5 class project

There's no way. 450 employees?

Across 8 years making $50,000 for salary is $180M. Most are likely closer to $100,000. So $360 million just for salaries.

That leaves only $90million. wtf was that tiny amount spent on? Just the cut scenes and paying voice actors?

Yeah, this studio was founded 9 years ago and this is their first product.

All of these studios started up by big names from gens 6 and 7 just seem like investment funneling schemes. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Benzies himself is surprised they actually launched a product. He was still raking it in during the whole fiasco, same as Jade Raymond.

that the second spider-man game, released 5 years after the first game, cost over 3 times as much to develop tells you all you need to know about the state of big time game development. either deliberately or accidentally, it's devolved into a racket...

Leslie made a killing no matter what occured out of this project, all because of GTA & being at the right time of circumstance to get all that investment.

Man will come out of this laughing.

His name is completely torched to VCs everywhere and he likely put in some of his own money into this. He is absolutely not laughing.

No chance it was that high but it was obviously an expensive flop. Was there any marketing for it? If it wasn't for GAF I wouldn't know it existed.

That's basically what investor-based marketing is all about. Fishing for whales. The firms are the rods, and buzzwords and selling points like "we got the guy who did GTA" is the bait on the hook. Clueless boomers who don't even really know what they're doing toss over their money expecting returns.

It's a system built on ignorance which breeds ignorance and drives down the quality of everything.

Now I see why ol' Lez was affixed to the project. Advertising - not to the customer, but to the idiot "investors."

It'd be funny if it weren't so sad.

This amount invested in the studio? Could be. In the Mindseye specifically? No, it's nonsense, it wasn't their main game. Everywhere is what they developed from the beginning, and it's still in development.
