Is it me or did they make the BR weaker in this title update/playlist update? I use the DMR 90% of the time but I switched to the BR for a match and it seems slightly worse.

Great Spartan Ops episode this week. Definitely the worst of the bunch so far for soloing, but some seriously ass kicking battles for a team.

Chapter 4 was pretty awesome. I was definitely not expecting anything like the
Phantom and Banshee onslaught, and the Cruiser in the background
, especially not on a multiplayer map. Previous episodes all felt like really small little skirmishes, so a big battle like that was really surprising and fun.

If this week's episode and last week's had switched places, I think the overall reactions to SpOps would be much better. This is what the series need to be like.

I didn't notice anything. I would think if they did anything like that it would be part of a bigger update and well noted.
 
What are the commendations exactly to unlock things? Like Mastery. What IS mastery? Number of kills?

Depends on what commendation it is. If it's spartan master(or something like that) it's kills in war games, but there are others as well. Master level I believe is the last level in the commendation.
 
After playing Episode 3,
I feel really bad for Crimson. "Oh you just murdered hoards upon hoards of covenant, sure you can finally go home. Right after we fly you to this location to kill more hundreds of covenant! You can handle that, right?"

SpOps story sucks so far, I would have preferred less stages / better ones, two good missions with real halo checkpoints instead of 5 repeated maps with unlimited multiplayer respawns.

uh, so reached The Broadsword part with my friend and I have to say I am not a fan of this campaign and major pet peeves with the story. Who the hell is Didact? Chief mentions him as if all people of earth are old pals of his and nobody ever questions. Everything is so centralized and appears out of thin air when the script decides it needs it.
 
True story, I have only reached chapter 3 in single player because I play multi too much, also outside of the visuals this is the first halo where I just don't really care about the story for what I have seen, no interesting hooks to grab me like the older games.

I saw something about extraction on waypoint and couldn't remember anything about it. What is it exactly?
Here is some Extraction gameplay

It's sort of like a territories/assault kind of gametype where you capture territories of a map by extracting resources from the ground using forerunner equipment. There is a "capture time" that allows for the enemy to come in a reverse it in their favor.

Man, this guy sucks. :lol Jumps in ghost runs to sniper right in front of enemy warthog, jumps out of ghost to pick up sniper....dies.

Unless you get a headshot, it seems like nothing works very well against the crawlers. At least on Legendary, they seemed to take longer to take down than the Knights if you didn't get a headshot. Which sucked because I seemed out of ammo so much I had to use non-headshot weapons a lot.

Suppressor is a beast against Prometheans of all kind, the reticle just needs to be red. Light Rifle is best for headshots, and the burst mode is great for killing the Crawlers. Not sure what you're doing wrong, but they do indeed work on them. Supressors also stun Crawlers, and if you're close enough you can hop behind them for some cool assassinations.

Dunno what to tell you for the Cortana thing. She's inside a hollow Forerunner planet, there's bound to be something that can take you from one place to another. Why not wormholes? ;-)

Doing a fiction-oriented playthrough next Monday or Tuesday at 8pm est. if you can stand people sitting around looking for easter eggs and discussing physics all of GAF is welcome. Plus you get Coop Legendary achievements done.

Sucks against the crawlers, but it's really key against knights to strip their shields, then switch to a precision weapon and put 2-3 in their face to get the kill.

I prefer the bolt shot though, since the stand fire can down a ton of crawlers, then the charge shot will pop prometheon shields in a single shot.

This. I haven't played Ep3 yet, but it's a real let down. I like the CG cutscenes but the game itself seems to have very little to do with them, you're just fighting up and down the same areas each time. It really is just a stripped back firefight.

I think it would be way better if there were limited lives. Go in with a group of 4 but you only have three lives each or something. There's no danger at all.

It is kinda fun just grinding through it solo Legendary though, especially given the infinite respawns. Helps practice killing Forerunners for the campaign too.

Any news on if they'll bring in a lone wolves/free for all/team doubles playlist? Also I wish they had a little description when choosing a playlist, especially since a lot of the titles have been changed from the past halos.

I love the game. It's probably my favorite halo. Love the join in progress because I don't like ending up with -20 in deaths. I hate lopsided games so this helps out a lot. I felt the environments in halo reach were bland, the halo 4 maps look great. Gameplay in multiplayer definitely feels faster. I die quickly, but not as fast as in COD games. I'm having a lot of fun in infinity slayer...I can't wait to play later.

It's bothering to join a lopsided game because a quitter left them with one less team member. Sometimes you just join the game to face the "your team lost" screen as soon as the map loads.

That I understand, and didn't really mean to pick on you, but it sounded like you meant quitting was easier. My mistake.

People joining is a big help for sure. The problem is it causes a lot of games to start without a full party, and as I was pointing out before it causes a lot more quitting.

weird. I've been enjoying some success online (around a 1.5 ratio I guess) hopped on last night and got fucking wrecked. seemed like I was captain sheilds off and then shoot the floor. OVER AND OVER.

nothing worse than having an off night and then playing with a couple team mates in random who unredeemably suck as in 2 kills 16 deaths bad.

started improving but then found I was getting 7 kills in a match with 2 deaths. maybe 6 assists and just not seeing anyone for half a match. it was weird and lonely.

For me though I've noticed if i'm the only person remaining on the team, join in progress kicks in within a few minutes and i'll have a squad again

I won a match the other night on blue team. On the score board it showed 4 red and about 9 blue. talk about some supersubs.

Hard to die, rip through Covenant and Prometheans like a spartan should.

playing through valhalla was a fantastic idea. huge props to the person who came up with that idea.

I wouldn't mind that either. Options are good. I wouldn't want to enter a game that is just ending. Maybe enter only if the score is at a certain point.

I've ended up doing the campaign in sync with the challenges they roll out for it.

So the first 3 missions have all been done solo, Legendary, with one of Thunderstorm/Tilt/ToughLuck active.

Surprisingly it's still been relatively easy. Though now I'm eager to get through the rest of it, and new campaign challenges won't be 'til next week.

Promethean knights are awful enemies btw. Nothing but bullet sponges that sometimes rush you and 1-hit melee kill you. And they're supported by the most cowardly enemy ever, The Watchers. Annoying shit. Hopefully the rest of the campaign is more covy or 3-way fights as opposed to solely promethean.

At the end of the 2nd level, Cortana explains that's there's a portal based transportation network on Requiem.

The largest post match bonus is for simply finishing the game. There is no penalty for losing, but there is a small extra bonus for winning. JIP allows you to get xp from finishing the game even if you lose right away. I'm not defending this occasional misstep, but the game isn't exactly punishing you for losing...it sorta rewards you for even participating. I guess people just hate losing just because it's losing.

I'll join you....Heroic or Legendary. I still haven't played any of the campaign yet. But I'm a Gamer-Dad and would only be able to play at night (~9pm EST)

From Time Glitch-

We need to have a talk, 343. You and the customs community. We need to sit down and have a real man-to-man on this one. Because what you've been up to with customs and Halo 4? It needs to stop. We need to nip this in the bud before it gets any worse.

It's our turn to talk, because we haven't gotten our say in yet. Listen. Listen very carefully. Here is what you have done with Halo 4:

- Removed Assault, Juggernaut, and Race.
- Failed to bring back VIP.
- Removed the ability to change Infected weapons and appearance in Flood.
- Cannot disable sprint.
- Cannot disable your new flag settings.
- Removed the Custom Powerup.
- (Big one here!) NO WAYPOINT SUPPORT FOR FILE SHARE ITEMS.

And that's just what I can remember off of the top of my head. I'm sure I'll add more as time goes on, but this needs to be said now: The changes you have made are leading us down a path where custom games are even more restricted than they were in Halo Reach. This is a problem. This is not something to ignore.

These decisions need to be reversed and rectified as soon as possible. These decisions, and decisions like them, are adversely effecting our ability to customize and create new content for Halo 4. And it's not just affecting us. The entire MLG community is absolutely dumbfounded that they cannot revert the flag settings to a more competitive state. These decisions are actively hurting one of the biggest, if not the biggest, Halo community out there. We need more options and gametypes, not less.

The best example is Race. You have literally killed an entire community of players by not including any options for a Race gametype. We don't even have VIP! Do you understand that entire communities are now left without any options because of this decision? Do you know how many players are now missing a huge chunk of their Halo experience?

Here is where you really need to tune in, 343. Custom gamers exist. We are a BIG community that, at one time, were thriving in happy in the Halo series. Ever since the end of Halo 3, we have been shoved aside and ignored. We thought you were different, but so far all we've seen is a further reduction in our ability to enjoy Halo in our own way.

You need to acknowledge us. You need to talk to us. You need to engage us in a meaningful way, because we are tired of being ignored. The outrage over the lack of options is finally making its way to this forum, and it is justified. This is the breaking point. You have kicked the hornet's nest, and the swarm is waking up.

Turn this around. Make this right. Acknowledge us.

And help us help you make your game better for everyone.

Because this thread has gathered enough attention, many people have pointed out the need for a full patch list. I want to maintain the original thread's text (It's gotten us this far!), but I do want to expand the list of problems in the form of a patch list for 343. I will put this all in a spoiler tag, as it'll be pretty damn long. If I miss something, let me know and I will add it. This list will be changing and updating as time goes on.

General:

- Bring back VIP, Juggernaut, Assault, Headhunter, Stockpile, Invasion, Territories, and Race with all previously included options from Halo 3 and Reach, respectively. This includes things like VIP radius traits.
- Add option to all gametypes to disable Sprint.
- Bring back the Custom Powerup in Forge, and add in the option to edit it for all gametypes.
- Under the "Appearance" tab, bring back the full range of colors.
- Fix the bug where placed weapons won't show up in certain gametypes.
- Enable full File-Share options and support on Waypoint.
- Add option to all gametypes to disable "Press X to Respawn" or "Auto Respawn".
- Bring back infinite or regenerating grenades as a custom option.


Flood:

- Make Flood loadouts editable.
- Fix Alpha Zombie to last more than one life.
- Make the Flood skin togglable.
- Remove all-talk so Zombies and Humans have different chat channels again.
- Bring back the option for player's chosen color scheme instead of restricting us to the lime-green color for Humans.
- Bring back percentage options for "Number of Flood".
- Fix the bug where weapons placed on the map in Forge do not show up in Flood customs. Currently the only way to get custom weapons on the map is through Ordinance drops. This is the same bug as the "general" weapon bug.
- Fix bug where Last Man Standing waypoint cannot be turned off even if it is disabled in the options.
- Give the "Number of Flood" a full range of numbers (1-15).
- Bring back Havens. Kevin Franklin actually said this existed, and it does not.

CTF:

- Bring back the option to remove auto pick-up.
- Bring back option to drop the flag.
- Bring back option to turn off flag waypoints (On carrier, on ground, escort, etc.).
- Add in option to remove the Flagnum. (Better yet, give us the option to give the flag carrier ANY weapon, including none!).
- Add in option to edit how much extra damage the flag carrier weapon does. It is currently hard-coded.
- Add in option for Neutral Flag.
- Add in option for 1-Flag.

Forge

- Bring back precision Forging.
- Give us a big, open space to Forge in devoid of terrain and pre-made buildings.
- Add the "Weapon Pickup" option into Trait Zones.

As probably one of the first custom game creators, to see such a massive response and network of support is simply incredible. We've been ignored and smushed into the background for so long, and finally we've unified in an effort to say "We've had enough". It's so good to see this happening after so long.

Keep it up. 343 can't hold their breath and wait for us to go away this time.

See I don't agree with that, I think the story is decent and what they try to do is pretty cool.

I would like if you got different options such as choosing unlimited lives or limited lives and being able to customize some of the settings but I hope they don't get rid of the unlimited lives option.

The instances where I get dropped into a really lopsided game is so rare that it isn't even worth complaining about.

haha I have the same issues. I can't play if my daughter is awake. So for that reason I only play late nights. I can't wait till she can play video games.

What is happening in the story then, and how do the missions relate to it? Ep 1 made sense, introducing me to the universe. At the end of Ep1 you collect the forerunner thing. Ep2, that forerunner thing eats and scientist - why am I fighting back in the same environments from Ep1 again? The only one that made sense was Gagarin.

As I say, I really like the cutscenes. But the moment to moment story is almost entirely empty. There aren't even any characters, it should have been more like Reach where your squad of IVs had a bit more personality.

Have you played it solo?

It spawns you straight into insta-get-fucked situations over and over. Oh let's not forget how many Hunters it throws at you simultaneously combined with weapons disappearing on the map.

It's terrible and a lot of the missions drag out far too long and it becomes increasingly notable that the crutch for a lot of the missions are just wave after wave after wave.
