Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

I am in the love the BR start & enjoyed playing on both maps much more compared to Truth & Empire. I really disliked Truth and found the revised version much more fun because I felt like there were more interesting cover based battles than the wide open, grenade spammed lanes of Truth. Also enemies weren't near as hard to see. But I have only played those maps probably 4 times each so it's really early. EDIT: Blue team on Eden can be a bit hard to spot, but I still feel it's better than Truth in that aspect.

I played in a party of two with a gentleman from Sweden and the game put us on a dedicated server in Washington DC. But the man from Sweden said he thought the connection was fine, for what that is worth.

Lastly, did I mention I love BR starts?!! When a guy beats me repeatedly with a BR there is no question in my mind why he is doing so. He is just a better player than I am. And I am okay with that, and it makes me want to improve. That is why I like BR starts.
 
This game is unplayable to me in its current form. I am constantly spawn killed. Also constantly nade spammed. Game is terrible.
When I hear complaints like this, I just assume you're not very good at the game. These are all relatively small maps. Grenades are gonna happen.
 
I dig the new Lightrifle. Finally feels distinct. Powerful, but slower and harder to use. That smartscope is a mindfuck until you get used to it, though.

Uh, yea. I need a point of reference on my scope. With all those little gizmos on the border and one small crosshair in the center it's really hard to keep it focused on the target compared to the others (at first at least, only played a couple with it).
 
I really hope the team slayer playlist has AR starts and there's a separate pro/MLG playlist with BR starts. As an average player all BR starts do for me is take away a lot of the incentive to pick up other weapons, and fighting for control of weapons on the map is what Halo is all about to me.

I also really hope there's no voting in the playlists. Everyone has favorite gametypes and favorite maps and with voting that's all that ever gets picked. You should just play what the hopper you're in decides to give you.

I don't understand. You want AR starts so you can pick up a BR? Even with BR starts there should still be an incentive to pick up power weapons or you're putting your team at a disadvantage.

I have a k/d of 6.5. I'm not bad and I'm not the best but this is terrible and others are voicing their frustrations in game as well

I'm guessing that's what he meant. And as an aside, does anyone know exactly how that KDA stat is calculated?

Edit: Based on my stats (176 kills, 153 deaths, 147 assists) it could be (kills + 0.5*assists)/0.5*deaths=KDA, does that sound right?
 
because it directly counters all of the abilities by punishing erratic usage.


I think it's because I really liked using the pistol. I used to switch to it off the bat and then go searching for the BR. The BR is better weapon so now I don't use the pistol anymore.


Something felt right about starting with an AR/Pistol... They both were fairly equal IMO with one being a precision weapon and the other being a spray and pray. But a skilled pistol player should be an AR player.

The BR just kind of negates that.
 
So, I played my first non-breakout match, tried the sniper and couldn't help feeling that the sniper scope was different, more smoother.

Also, I think the promethean weapon feels a tad more powerful than the DMR but is also slower, and the ADS its... Well I'm not a fan.

The map was like Empire but at night, we won, but blue team clearly has a handicap cause of the color pallet.
 

It creates a rush mentality. On game start you just rush the enemy and mow them down with SMG fire.
It could be compensated by buffing the pistol to counter the 0.5s kills the SMG currently has, but that would bring more issues. I think it'd balance more if the SMG was just reserved as a map weapon and Breakout became pistol only starts.
 
Breakout is so freaking awesome but it really does highlight just how bad the lag is with the lower TTK. On a local server with minimal lag I could see this being a mode that I would sink plenty of time into.

At least with the longer TTK modes I still have a chance if I get a big enough jump on the enemy.

At this point though it's unplayable!!

I noticed while playing earlier this week that due to the higher skill requirement of Halo 5 that even small amounts of lag suddenly become a much larger problem than they were before in previous games.

Havent had a chance to play the beta today yet but I can understand how it would be even worse in Breakout.

Just lost a cross map exchange. His shields were popping and I had a magnum. He pinged me with the SMG and won. Wut.

I'm really sick of the SMG. The one weapon so far that I really think needs some work.

Though I havent played today yet so I havent used the new stuff.

I feel like I'm dying after I've already taken cover or boosted behind a wall WAY more often than I ever have in other Halo games. I have videos of me boosting away and then dying. It's like you can't even count on line of sight anymore.

Same here. Has to be lag. Always raises the blood pressure.

I (a Silver 3) was playing Eden with two unranked people and a Bronze 1, against 3 Silver 3's and a Gold 1. Lost by 10, and lost 87 POINTS. How in God's name is that fair? I had a shit ton of assists, stayed with the team, and I lose that much? Wtf?

Did you switch between silver 2 and 3? If so, that's what's causing the big drop. If you win again, you should get a very large increase.
 
Br starts make this game so much better. It punishes idiots who sprint everywhere. Maps play smoother as well. Had much closer games because of it. Players who are in Onyx with AR as their primary kill method are getting shown up for what they are.

Br starts have also eliminated camping in all games I played tonight. I do think the Atr should be the secondary as it is a great weapon to switch to when outnumbered as it leave multiple players low health primed for teammate clean up kills.
 
You know how normal Halo is so much better when played with friends? Breakout mode is that times 100. I imagine. All my friends went PS4 this gen. Fuckers.
 
So I just got to sink my teeth into the beta for the first time today. I really enjoyed it but only time will tell how much I actually like it.

I played primarily slayer. Regret is an amazing map. Eden is ok. I didn't get to play Truth or Empire before they were rotated out so I can't compare to them.One thing that is readily apparent to me: Breakout sucks. The SMG ruins any potential that mode has and the maps it plays on are awful.

Smart-scope on the BR is lame but I can live with it. I hope they remove it from automatics. I absolutely love the smartscope on the Light Rifle. The sniper is largely unaffected which is nice although that weapon definitely needs some tuning. It doesn't feel very good and there is something weird going on with the scope. It seems to have a bit of delay when switching between zoom levels.
