I would have paid for it.

Since apparently we get a free gold pack to share, I randomly picked someone from the company.

Members of Halo 5's HaloGAF group. I'm going to be randomly gifting gold packs so make sure you check in-game to see if you've been naughty or nice. Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays, whichever you prefer. :)
Merry holidays to you as well, good sir!

Part of the HaloGAFnasium Obstacle Course (TM) is outrunning a teleporter that uses similar scripts to follow you through a hallway, meaning you have to navigate that hallway before it catches you.

It's actually a really clever scripting idea. I was thinking that you could maybe make a player-driven payload or something that you'd have to escort by creating a vehicle that is moved by the player walking around. You could also potentially make an infection gametype where a zombie walks above the arena on an invisible wall while a kill ball follows their position but far below them in the arena where the actual players are.
These ideas sound incredible.

God, I love what the community is doing with Forge right now

I'm going to do a contest on here for my gift req pack. Whoever gives me the most gift packs wins.

Kidding. What I want is a post that discusses what you think is the biggest success for Halo 5 and what you think its biggest flaw is. Min 3 paragraphs for each. Pictures aren't necessary, but they help break up the text and can give additional context to what you're saying. So I can be lazy, include "Karl's Contest" at the top or bottom of the post; this way I can just use the search function. If I think there's more than 1 post that stands out I'll buy some more for people. Deadline is next Monday.

Since no one did this, I'm changing it. Best OR worst aspect of Halo 5. 2 paragraphs. That shouldn't be too hard and still provide some discussion which was my original goal. By 11pm CST.

I don't need the pack, so go ahead and give it to someone else, but I'll go ahead and throw my hat in the ring 'cause of my totally sick and professional rhetorical analysis skillz #EnglishMajor #Wordology

The best feature of Halo 5 is a tough call. On one hand, we have what is easily the best multiplayer gameplay loop from a Halo game in just over a decade - smooth, precise and responsive gameplay makes for the most fast paced and enjoyable base product in franchise history. Note that Halo 5 is the only title so far that hasn't necessitated a massive deviation to make competitively viable nor a massive patch to render enjoyable.

On the other hand, we have the free content releases. It's been a constant boon to this game to have new content every month or so, be it new maps or playlists or Forge additions or weapons. It keeps me and many others coming back and trying new things.

The negatives are pretty universally bad, and potentially negate the positive content releases. The game launched with sparse content and chose to lock that content behind REQ packs. The use of freemium tactics such as microtransactions while also charging a full $60 for the title is an underhanded and frankly anti-consumer maneuver, the presence of which forever tarnishes whatever positive content the title may itself have. Hundreds of hours of gameplay later, I have long since forgotten and have long since earned my full armory, but I can never allow such blatantly shitty behavior be normalized. To lock the majority of the sandbox for Halo 5's premier gametype be locked behind hundreds of hours of effort or thousands of dollars in purchases crippled the game for many and continues to do so for newcomers. The Warzone sandbox is forever imbalanced and can never be fixed.

Likewise, the justification for REQs is my next negative - the rate at which content was released and the content within the individual updates. While one may get the current product and look back to launch and marvel at how far we've come, we musn't forget that it took us a year to get to where many may rightfully argue we should have been at launch: A working spectator function, a completed Forge, numerous maps, more than three gametypes, Firefight, playlist diversity, ect. For most games in the franchise this was there on day 1. We didn't have to wait months for Forge, or months still for the complete weapon sandbox to be implemented. The notion that we should have had to wait for that, or that we were only able to get that because of REQs is ludicrous. "We wouldn't have been able to achieve feature parity with our predecessors if not for charging our consumers tens of thousands of extra dollars over the course of nearly a year after we launched our product," doesn't really hit the same buttons as "Your support through the REQ system has been overwhelming and allowed us to continue our support of the game!"

Similarly, the gameplay content almost seems like too little too late, with us getting King of the Hill and Race over a year after release. Maps like Molten and Riptide leave a great deal to be desired, and lest we forget that Anti-Freeze was a huge part and bragging point in the update that it originally launched in.

We can only hope that the current content base is used to bolster Halo 6's launch content. I don't want to wait another year after launch to get back to where Halo 5 is now, it should have more than enough content when it launches so that it can hit the ground running.

It sucks that whenever I write anything like this out that it seems like I'm just taking a massive steaming shit on the game. I mean, it's incredibly fun, but there are only so many ways to state things like "This game has really fast paced and responsive gameplay that I enjoy" versus an analysis of the ideology behind post-launch content and similar. I feel like I don't need to expand on the game being fun because it's pretty objective to anyone who has ever picked it up. It plays like a dream. Easily the best game in the franchise since Halo 2 as far as gameplay, and honestly I think it's more fun than Halo 2. But the package was missing a few key elements, and how those elements were rolled out really soured me on the experience.

EDIT: Also I don't get the hate for Decimator. If the chest armor was a little bulkier and the visor flattened out so as to remove those bulbous bits then it'd look pretty great. Like, shit, look:

It's practically identical.

Insufficient grit. Really fails to make you feel the realistic brutality that being a cyborg supersoldier fighting purple dinosaurs and robots automatically entails.

First, there need to be more acronyms. Military acronyms are super real and authentic. Everything should be an acronym. I should be Super Pumped Ambitious Reengineered Trained Armored Nucleus. Combat could be vastly improved, too. While whiffing melees is a great approximation of missing a punch, it would be much better if my SPARTAN stumbled forward and fell down, depending on the Flexible Layered Oriented Object, Refurbished (FLOOR).

What's with all these colors? Red and Blue is for little kids, let's have Beige vs Medium Gray teams. Also, we need clear faceplates so I can see my SPARTAN's weary, stubbled expression at the horrors of war. Also, would it be so hard to have me manually help my SPARTAN clean all his equipment between matches? It would really add to the immersion if I could sit in a locker room on the Infinity and Press X thirty times to run cleaning patches through my BR.

It would also really add to the realistic, oppressive dread if I could have PTSD flashbacks to that time my squad was fighting the Innies an IED blew off my best friend's ARM (Autonomic Reticulated Member) in an ambush. Just, randomly. At literally any time. And it turns out the IED was set off by a little kid, making me go "oh my god, the MORAL AMBIGUITY!"

EDIT: Also it would be great if I could stop matching with people from Mexico

Please take out Pegasus and Orion as soon as possible. Both have terrible frame drops (Orion being the worst) and Shotguns spawn every 10 seconds on Pegasus, even when a player has one currently. Not fun.

Good God skirmish sucks. So many sweaty teams farming kills but now with more quitters and jip. Why?

Infinity ward just stopped by and they like your ideas, expect these to be adapted in Call of Duty 16.

Except the Mexico thing, Halo 6 will strictly be set in Mexico now.

Not my experience at all. I will say this, my aim is trash.. i keep finding myself over compensating for latency that isn't their...

God dann I'm getting some of the worst matches of my halo 5 life.

Would've been more fun if they made it solo queue only, or limited parties to two players (like Gears 4's social playlist). Gears 4 nailed social playlists; it rotates out gametypes like Halo 5, but you can only party up with one other friend, ensuring you can't just make a pubstomp squad to ruin the opposition's day.

Not to sound like a dick, my anger is not directed at you, but duh.

343 adding in Forge maps in Arena and BTB with terrible framerate is unacceptable. BTB has had this issue for months. It's a joke. Love the update, but this needs to be fixed immediately.

I knew this was going to be a problem. They need to remove teams of 4 to join it.

making it solo queue only would mean i'd have to play with my friends in ranked and sadly they aren't great players and hate ranked :/.

honestly its social who cares who you match just play.

i was annoyed at first when i kept matching all the competitive players in it but now eh its social so what :p

Eh Skirmish isn't mean to be taken seriously, I still find it fun regardless because nothing matters

Eh, it's not much fun playing 3v4 or 2v4, or joining a strongholds game mid match and being down a ton and with a team having a triple cap. Or being out matched by a team of 4 in assault that's not even trying to score but farming kills. Or having a teammate go 0- 15 with one kill but also one suicide. Etc

I spawn 5 balls on each side,

When I did something like this in the past I never had them all appear at once, I would randomly spawn maybe 2 at a time per team, that way you couldnt stand in one spot and keep throwing it in (cause once you find the right spot to throw its super easy) you had to run around and get to them as quick as possible

But, its also fun to stand there just draining buckets and rack up a ton of points.

Someone give it a whirl, its a real short game, meant to just be a quick hitter.
If I find a way to add some meaningful depth to it, Ill probably make it last longer

So, if I read this correctly, we need more dialogue with "eggheads"?

moving hoop?

I just played a few rounds. It's addictive. The lobby crashed when people actually started joining my game though ;( . But i could play it solo all day!

It's fun with the spartan abilities, trying to move as quickly as possible and still hit shots

They should add internal rankings to social playlists. Its no fun getting pub stomped by stacked parties. Social is now just a pubstomping ground. Isn't social supposed to invite new players to learn and play halo?

Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it.

Everytime I boot it up to test new features the lobby ends up filling to capacity and I play a few rounds also, so freaking cool.

I want to de-emphasize standing in one spot and draining shots (unless thats what people want)

my to-try list will include, random ball spawn locations, (if possible) player count = ball count and hoop movement (im thinking just up and down on a timer). Whether any of those are possible and/or good ideas remains to be seen

Looks like that's not the case. It's shipping for Christmas delivery for folks who bought it last week, but the cutoff is Thursday.

Yeah, I checked the site and edited my post.

I really like the loot crates, but I'm not sure how much longer I will get them. Shipping and the exchange rate are killer.

I would legitimately be disappointed if H6 MP (gameplay system) wasn't near exact replica of where we are now. This is what Halo should be, movement is fast and fluid, the weapon sandbox feels powerful but balanced.

I fully expect forge to be ported over 100%.

I'd like to see wall running and double jumps too!

This might be too much, but it sure would be cool.

I definately think you wanna deemphasize standing in one spot. It feels like a 3pt shoot out when you have to move. And it feels boss like when you drain one while still being carried by thrust-slide momentum

Hoop movement would be interesting, but i already love it as it is.

Would it be possible to occasionally spawn a money ball that's worth more points?

Those definitely would be too much. Maps must have an excessively huge amount of verticality to adapt to them, and they could be way too challenging for map design to accomodate both intuitiveness and skill ceiling. What I actually want though, is a small second jump to replace clamber.
