You like to show off your Halo rank to your friends? How old are you? haha
You tellin' me you don't compare dicks with your friends?
I mean, what else is there to do at circlejerks when the work is done?

Oh wow - didn't see the symbol at first. By the way... Is there a place I can find all of the symbols compiled?Anyone going to piece together the symbol for the terminal thing?
If you don't get what i'm talking about, scan around the image. There are bits all over the place. First one i noticed was over the lava, bottom left. another one above that, one infront of the player towards the top, one a little down and to the right of that....
I'm bad at photoshop, so i reallllllly don't want to do it
I begrudge no one their ranks, and I'm glad to hear that 343i is considering substantial content and feature updates post-launch.
I *do* find it hilarious that he said the only reason he wants to be good at the game is chasing a number on a screen.
I have a few questions for you then.
1. Are you even any good at the game or are you a casual who prefers campaign or something like Spartan Ops more?
2. Would you want to be good at something like lawn bowling? Theres virtually no recognition for that just like Halo Reach had no recognition for the good players unless you looked for it on places like MLG. In that case, be my guest and become a "sweet" lawn bowler, but I myself will have zero incentive to be good at that because there is basically no point. I like being recognized for being good. It makes me feel better.
Never have I hated or loved something so much at this time, my gift to you everyone in this great community. I love you all.

MLG Dallas starts today, right?

Self esteem issues eh?

So people with montages and such are childish by your logic.
So, War Games after the first SpOps mission, or after the first week's worth of missions? How many missions a week, 5?So I kind of struck out in terms of what I want to play in War Games. Since I'm doing my Campaign and Spartan Ops romps before touching War Games, I hope something is added around those lines. I really want a BTB objective playlist: Dominion, CTF, Extraction. Given 343 is doing one playlist per hopper, I'll settle for any one of those.
This is a really great idea. Keep it consolidated, keep it fresh....a rotation where one month it's BTB Slayer, and the next month it's BTB Objective.
Holy shit Cyren.
You guys have outdone yourselves.
Tonight I think right? Will be nice to have playing while I am working on arts.

That doesn't really work for me man. Never would I want to be good at something where I couldn't show others that I am good. You can be a professional lawn bowler and feel great about yourself, but that would never work for me. Its just not in my personality. You know what makes me feel recognized for being good? Being good.

I'm just a competitive person who likes to prove worth in front of others. That's the simplest way I can explain it to you. I love Halo but I've had some amazing times stemming from great competition in the game at the highest level. That was one of the main reason's I kept coming back to play.
Cheers Frank.Keep an eye on the webs.

I'm just a competitive person who likes to prove worth in front of others, which was probably derived when I was a kid because of how competitive I was in sports. There's no self esteem issues. I'm a pretty well rounded individual, I play video games against 3 of my best high school buddies who are all extremely competitive (and good) and that drives me to keep playing. That's the simplest way I can explain it to you. I love Halo but I've had some amazing times stemming from great competition in the game at the highest level. @Project you not the only one. The people that don't understand us just aren't competitive that is all. They don't care if their rank goes up or down nor if it is there or not. So they think everyone should be like them and play just for fun.
They don't realize for people like us we want ranks for incentive. I'll play and have fun, but why will I want to get better at the game if there is no way to show it. They just don't understand.

I bet you have your grade 8 art Most Improved plaque hanging in your room huh?
Skill recognizes skill. You seem to have an unexplained impulse to find affirmation. smh.
lol. Over-generalization. I am a competitive player, but having a visible number/symbol isn't even a foolproof way of showing skill. In H3 anyone could get a 50 if they had someone good enough carry them to the top. It meant nothing. Having the balls to out skill someone proves skill. I think that is far more gratifying than a pixel on a screen.
Edit: lol @ Frankie. So good.
a casual who prefers campaign or something like Spartan Ops more?
a casual who prefers campaign
a casual
Edit: Holy shit at Frankie post.
Most impressive.
FUD that is.
A bit too much slow mo, no Grunts but otherwise? Great.
Some oddities, like the Chief's armor is very different from the other Spartans'. Mark IV, right? Oddly different though, the other's resembled a lot more Mark V... I suppose baseline Mark IV is quite like Mark V...
Also, noticed one of the helmets is like Mark V ... Was there really Mark IV ? Or is this just a variant that is coincidentally so similar?
I just love the small details.
I don't even know what's going on with the armour any more. It seems like every Spartan is wearing something completely different... Where's the consistency?
You can get better without an arbitrary number.
We understand it all right, and we find it unnecessary. Would it be nice if there was a ranked playlist? Sure, but the loss of one isn't a deal breakerl.

For the millionth time; ranks make the game more fun for a lot of competitive players simply because it makes every game count. Imagine if every sports federations decided to abandon the idea of competitions and tournaments and just made everyone play friendly matches 100% of the time. That's Halo 4 right now. Yeah, friendly matches can still be fun, and sure you still want to win but the extra tension and spice that is there in competitive matches is missing. Like Shake Appeal; said some time ago; it's adds context. You want to win a match because you want to get that 45, if you lose you might drop down the 43. That is what makes it more interesting and engaging.
If you don't get that than I don't know what to tell you.
It really is. You guys just don't understand. Will I buy the game? Yup. Will I enjoy the game? Yup. Because the gameplay is way better than Reach I know I will play it more.
However if there were ranks I would want to improve more. I have a friend who clearly told me that she needed ranks. She said she know it is meaningless, but I need to feel like I am progressing. This is coming from a casual player and I would say she sucks at Halo. She plays COD now because Reach didn't have ranks. She just need to see a number.
Giving anecdotal evidence is pointless because it doesn't represent the whole, but I can imagine there are many casual players who feel the same way. Ranks only helps Halo it doesn't hurt it in the slightest by having it. It only makes things competitive.
They have options to supplement their combat proficiency don't they?
Or just have a blog post separate from the WU, because patch info has to hit immediately and not wait for everything else.He said earlier he was working on getting a plain English list of fixes for the Day 1 patch. Would be nice to see 343 start a developers blog (even if it's just for patches and Title Updates) similar to how Battlefield 3 has long detailed explanations about upcoming patches, etc.

"You guys just don't understand." Lol, yeah, you're on a whole other philosophical/intellectual level.
I have a friend that said if Halo 4 had ranks she wouldn't buy it. See? I can do that too.
Do you only play MP games with ranks? Because I've been playing games since the 80s, and most of those didn't have a ranking system. You know what you did when you wanted a "real" competitive game? You joined a tournament or an online ranking ladder like Gamebattles. That's still an option these days right?
This is a no shit statement, but yeah, ranks would have been cool if they had been kept, but they weren't and it's not a deal breaker. You can still get your competitive fill by utilizing outside factors.
Perhaps it's you that doesn't understand. Go get that MLG pay and that high status GB rank son.
Wait so it's a deal breaker but you are still buying the game?
This is where your argument falls down, as proved by sport.
Skill is all relative. If Barcelona go and beat Preston North End 18 nil, that's not a feat they'll be particularly proud of, even if they 'out skilled' their opponent. Similarly, extending the analogy into Halo, if I go 15-0 (or whatever arbitrary score is now associated with that figure) against Dax, it'd be less gratifying than doing a similar feat against say, Tashi.
Gratification and skill are a sliding scale dependant on various factors, the pixel on the screen connoting 'skill' isn't the rewarding part, it does however facilitate a greater reward for a vast number of players who'd like some unified way of identifying where a player sits in the current Halo community, especially in specific playlists.
For the record I agree that 1-50 isn't a perfect solution; it is, however, vastly superior to no solution at all. That appears the case, Frank's repeatedly implied something more, but until that appears in plain sight, rather than in coded notes I'll stick with my current argument.
I didn't like the Arena, but I respected Bungie for attempting it.
