I think you missed about 30 pages. Had no problem w/ his post because that's pretty much what a lot of people here are saying.

Shit, at this point, I'd say Ramirez's posts account for 90% of the ones worth reading from the morning.

Please point me to the posts saying the game was going to be bad because of the exclusion of campaign theater. I participated in the discourse. The opinions ranged from "I don't care" to "I'm deeply disappointed". I thought it was an entirely reasonable spectrum of responses. Quote who you are talking about, using that spiffy multi-quote feature if you're going critique opinions. I don't see how coming in and offering broadsides at unnamed posters over the past swath of pages does any good. Talk to people, not some amorphous mass.

My question is, even if there is no visible rank system at all, and this is done invisibly behind the scenes... would people be happy as long as their getting matched up against a similarly skilled team? Or is it that people want to see the 1-50 skill rank next to their name?

As long as whatever bullshit was going on in Reach's algorithm was modified, I can be content. Any skill ranking system they toss our way will be reluctant to be anything close to 1-50; I'm of the mind that the idea is not to make Staff Captains feel bad.

Edit: 1-50 or nothing for me, basically: if they think something like BPR counts I have no interest.

Why is Halo in scare quotes?

Also:

Description: Witness the chaos of a clash of civilizations in Wreckage, with its blend of claustrophobic spaces and dangerous exposures and venture into the human colony environs of Harvest, and explore a human foray on an alien moon in Shatter.

This sentence should be drug out in the street and shot.

Exactly why I said skill also matters in the definition of "better." Frank is saying basically the same thing I am. When in close, the DMR may be "better" from a kill time perspective, but it also depends on if you are good with a DMR and if you land every shot. BR (as Frank notes) gives you more room to be a bit sloppy, which comes in very handy up close as most players wont land every DMR shot on a moving target from 5 feet away. BR gives you more room for mistakes. DMR is better if both of you land each shot, but chances are (in a close-up, moving battle) this won't happen.

EDIT:

This also plays into it.

Okay, well this is what I am saying. If you are proficient with the DMR and the BR equally, you can go into a BR vs DMR battle and if both you and your opponent land all your shots, the DMR will be the victor. I am speaking about perfect situations where you don't miss a shot. If we are talking about other situations then sure, and we may as well go as far as saying that the light rifle and carbine are just as good also.

I have played the game. Thanks.

For Cyclone or anyone that's played it-

1) What are your impressions on learning curve for shooting while scoped (thinking in terms of Light Rifle 4 shot)?
2) One of the things I really liked about Reach vs. H3 was the visible cues of if a guy got shot, how damaged he was. I haven't picked up a ton on this in gameplay vids. Any idea if it is more like one or the other? I wonder if this will be a headache if BR has bleedthrough while DMR does not.

Major Nelson said:
With the highly anticipated launch of “Halo 4” on Nov. 6 less than two weeks away, Microsoft and 343 Industries today unveiled that there will be more content to come in the months post-launch, and the “Halo 4” War Games Map Pass is your ticket to getting it all at a 15 percent discount. Stoking the excitement for launch, 343 Industries also premiered the gameplay launch trailer for “Halo 4, available now on Halo Waypoint.

Retailing for $24.99 USD2 (2,000 Microsoft Points), the “Halo 4” War Games Map Pass confirms your access to three War Games map packs as they become available in December, February and April, and represents a savings of more than 15 percent versus purchasing the packs individually. In addition, Map Pass purchasers will receive two bonus in-game helmets, as well as a unique in-game emblem.

Exploring new worlds and wonders, all three Map Packs provide classic “Halo” combat and exciting ways to experience the new feature-set of “Halo” Infinity Multiplayer. Descriptions and tentative release dates are as follows:

Crimson Map Pack (December release timeframe)

Maps: Wreckage, Harvest, Shatter

Description: Witness the chaos of a clash of civilizations in Wreckage, with its blend of claustrophobic spaces and dangerous exposures and venture into the human colony environs of Harvest, and explore a human foray on an alien moon in Shatter.

Majestic Map Pack (February release timeframe)

Maps: Landfall, Monolith, Skyline

Description: Landfall’s emphasis is on infantry battles against a glittering ocean on a distant world, while Monolith exposes you to the naked vacuum of space – and the firepower of opposing teams, and Skyline’s distinctly industrial feel provides new challenges in somewhat familiar, but occasionally confined spaces.

Castle Map Pack (April release timeframe)

Maps: Daybreak, Outcast, Perdition

Description: Daybreak is set in a military facility against the backdrop of an idyllic mountain range, while Outcast plunges you into the warrens, canyons and arches of an alien edifice, and Perdition takes players into the heart of an urban sprawl, with tactical speed and situational awareness its key features.

Also included in the “Halo 4” War Games Map Pass are two unique in-game helmets (‘Scanner’ and ‘Strider’) that feature new geometry, and an exclusive in-game emblem (‘Falcon’). The “Halo 4” War Games Map Pass is included as part of the Xbox 360 Limited Edition “Halo 4” Console Bundle.

So it sounds like a bunch of human-themed maps.

Just 3 Packs? they are aiming for a short DLC life span play.

So the console gets the Season Pass too?

Nice to know roughly when the map packs are going to be released. Weird that the settings for the maps are already chosen so long away from release (The January and April ones)

I'd guess there will be more than 3 packs. Just that these are the first 3 and the only packs in the season pass. Plus we'l have SpOps DLC.

This is awesome news. Can't wait to get more maps rolling. Halo 4 will most likely have a 3 year lifespan, if the same trend is followed from other games. I'm also hoping that we will get maybe one or two more packs after this season to help encourage players to play throughout the duration of the game's life.

Glad the Halo 4 map packs are coming out 6 months within release, none of this years stuff.

Curious if they'll try a S2 of Spartan Ops after this.

If the nextbox comes out next year, Halo 4 will only last 2 years I believe. Microsoft said a 3 year cycle isn't good enough for Halo.

Wow I really like the descriptions of those maps. Can I just say if there's one thing I'm really glad to have back after Reach, it would definitely be unique multiplayer maps. I love getting the chance to see some amazing environments and and locations that otherwise would never be seen in the campaign.

Oh, it's coming with the system? I guess that means I don't necessarily need the limited edition version too.

...but then again, I do like that case.

Also, I bought four 12-packs of diet mountain dew for my coworkers so I could get some codes, and one of the four is so jacked up I can't read it. Anyone know who I can contact about this? Because it's basically five bucks lost for me.

I'm all for that. 343 may have screwed up on a couple features in Halo 4, but I think the game looks fun as hell. It sure is going to keep me coming back for at least the next year. But that being said, the faster they can utilize new hardware and release the next Halo, the better. It will give us more features, higher forge budget etc. Nothing bad can come of it.

good I have the CE on amazon but I wont get it til after 2 the next day... think I'ma save 15 bones and get it for free at stupidstop, with the pass. The CE looks ok but I'm getting to old for this shit... I did it for 2 and 3 and got the Reach console last time.

I would really like to know if the runes emblem can be used from the start on or if it needs to be unlocked or is with a specialization.

I want a working matchmaking against equally skilled teams.
That is until I get matched equally and have a hard time / get stomped than I complain about host and cheaters.

I also want that nummber that tells me how awesome I am doing shows there is a ranking-system in place.
Yet I have to be able to achieve the highest of these nummbers even without being one of the best and it has to be "permanent" once I earned it.

Origninaly all those "I"s were "theys" because I think its stupid but then I thought about why exactly I didnt play much Arena... =\

I would assume that this is "season 1" and if there is a huge success or the game still has big enough numbers to warrant a "season 2" they'll green light the production of more SpartyOps and more maps.

Watched this a couple of times on my phone, and despite it being only two people "playing" it, I'm gonna post my thoughts about it:

- On Haven, the extraction points are crates of various sizes. Apparently the goal is to take these boxes back to your quarters on the Infinity, so maybe they're filled with porn or Twinkies or something equally as covetous.
- Despite the loadout screen showing you only two weapons per loadout, you also get a gun that that shoots an expanding, teleporting disco ball. This disco ball calls the maid in your quarters to tell him/her to make some space for a bunch of porn (it's most likely porn, amirite?), because there's some shit teleportin' in right quick.
- This call takes a more than a few seconds to complete (because your a total fucking slob and a head's up would have been nice), so you have some time to stare into the void and dream of your potential conquests.
- Your enemies can also lay claim to your stash if they see it, despite you being there for dibs. Their disco ball gun supersedes yours (and vice versa), so you gotta fight it out with the rude bitch or else they be takin' your shit, yo.
- As long as you lay the smack down on their candy ass, the call finally goes through and the porn is safely in your room.
- Whoever gets the most porn wins.

Did anyone else get that from the gameplay?

Or twink porn.

So far it seems like map pack formula is:

-1 civilian UNSC map
-1 urban UNSC map
-1 pretty forerunner map

ODST helm is best helm. ;)

Digging the variant they have in H4 in your avatar too. What's it being called? recon?

Recruit, I think. I wasn't following the news around armor, want to wait till H4 comes out and go through the entire list and pick the closest to the ODST variant.

Interesting news on the DLC front. I am hoping they do some Forge Updates on the Free but I can see it getting ignored while the focus on more MP stuff.

That makes me think there will be a second season of map dlc, which I'm pretty much over the top okay with.

Hoping for another set in late summer + Spartan Ops season 2!!!

Agreed. Although I won't lie some of the new helmets I've seen do look fantastic.

We need more screenies of showing off our spartan's from Reach to lighten up the thread from the depression of what isn't in the game!

One episode, with 5 missions, is on-disc.

Nice release cadence for the map packs.

Thanks. I wonder how they will distribute them in the following weeks. One mission per day Monday through Friday or just 1 entire episode in 1 big download each week. I'm very intrigued by Sparatn Ops and what it has to offer.

So it sorta sounds like they held back maps from on disk to sell as DLC?

I'm hoping these are just for the War games map pack and we'll be getting more later in the year.

How so? They very easily could have drawn up ideas for the maps while in development (or after gold) and will work on them now that the game is complete.
